Anyway, i found a full lesson on tai chi chuan through google video. although i have only been doing the warm up exercises and the first lesson, i have found it of great help. It hasn't got rid of my arithitis, it has helped enormously with my stiffness, and made me feel much looser . Yes, i have and continue to do other stretching exercises. BUt this seems to be the one that has helped most.
Glad to know Tai Chi gives some relieve to your arithitis. When doing Tai Chi, place your tongue in contact with the upper part of your mouth and breath in and out evenly and in a relax manner.
I have arithitis in the back. I went to my doctor and he suggested tai chi. Actually years before, I had been doing a particular stance as help with my sarcodosis. I told my doctor about it, because at the time he had the same disease. It was a stance where you stand knees slightly bent, fingers facing each other slighly apart. it did help, but at the time, i didn't keep it up, and found exercising had the same benifit. But my doctor liked it, and did further inverstigation.tbc
For beginners it is a good idea to keep the knees bent minimally, however for those who practice diligently the amount of chi and the ability at which that chi will flow through the body becomes stronger and stronger and eventually there comes a time when you are no longer really controlling your body but it is the chi that helps to move and direct your body. When chi is flowing strongly through the meridians there is a feel to want to root stronger hence the increased bend in the knees.
@hockkeah, Karate that started in Okinawa & spread to Japan never had it until Japanese added belt system like in Judo and even then only three belts then ranking of black belt degree.
I like it. I will be learning lesson for Tai Chi.

watch those knees, injury may occur if you perform like this.
Never, never let your knees go beyond your toes.
