Yeah, I've since found a better way to anchor my elbow and time it better. Long 3 is by far, my least favorite kata. Life got busy the last few years (divorce and having to work twice as much now to pay the bills) so I haven't had a chance to do any videotaping. I will though. I'll re-do all of them (except maybe long 3) lol
I'm no expert, so will willing accept any criticism that there's something here I'm not seeing. It just seems to me that some of the moves here - like the double-fisted strikes at 0:03 and 0:07 - would be hard to deliver with sufficient power; the leverage and balance of the move looks like it'd be hard to bring the strength of legs and hips into play. That said, the performance of this kata looks good to me; you unhesitatingly and smoothly flow from one move to the next with precision.
You don't have to show yourself doing the kata to correct others. They might be from other styles or just didn't have the time to post them selfs doing it. They are giving you constructive critism, take it. I'm assuming your over 20 and you know that them posting the kata has no relevence to how your doing it. Things i picked up from watching it. Foot work, your moving slow. When doing a kata the speed is all about pauses in between the tequinics, and no matter what hit hard and fast.
@MrRavaboi I have no problem with constructive criticism. This kata was done 6 or 7 years ago. I like constructive criticism, but I don't like people who are just insulting. There's no cause for it. What I find also, is that people who just say nasty things are often people who aren't very good themselves. Those who are genuinely good, find constructive things to say. Those who are just ugly in their comments, are often poor practitioners.
@amylongkenpo well besides your footwork and hip rotation this was a good kata. Hope you improved them, and if you wouldn't mind then upload yourself do another or the same kata again, i'd love to see your progres since this video.
@MrRavaboi Not my favorite kata, but I do plan on posting more. I have definitely improved since then. I got a new instructor, one who actually LOOKS at my katas and makes helpful comments. So yes, I've been told they look much better and I plan on posting more. I have some from 2006, but that was also before my new instructor. I videotape mostly to gauge my own progress and post them in case it helps anyone else - even if only to see what not to do. lol
i really like the way she does her form, she ist rushing trough it she is actually taking her time to get the moves so we all can see the beauty of the form. nice work amy keep it up ill post a video of my form soon ok so u can comment me on how i do them it would help alot take care.
Nice job Amy. I just stumbled on this one and always end up reading comments just to see what other people are thinking and decided I had to comment. First, I really liked Thrusting Wedge in these - good power on the Upward Elbows which a lot of people ignore to get to the Claws. Maybe a little more flight in WoS and actual weight transfer on Parting Wings (instead of just quick stance transitions), but hey, when you get to watch it a couple times, you see more. Thanks for posting!
You are another one who comments, but doesn't post anything yourself. I didn't see anything kenpo on your channel - just something for your wife. Spend a lot of time working with Mr. Parker, personally?

with a pepsi machine inside the dojo, what you want to see?
senseinakayama 2 years ago
Ouch! It wasn't my dojo. Kinda harsh, don't ya think?
amylongkenpo 2 years ago
no offense, but she doesn't do good (if any) transition on her footwork. That is Mr. Ed Parker's main thing. Proper footwork & stances.

This is why katas get a bad reputation.
Because most people don't perform them very well.
There's no power in her movements and her stance is quite frail.

Odd. I looked under your subscription and didn't see any kenpo katas posted. You seem to be all yack and no smack.

Wow, neat!
How many forms are there in Kenpo?
