@aaamerican2 I recently bought an incredibly nice, engraved wooden cutting board at Walmart. It was made in America. It was also the most expensive cutting board they carried. Most of what they carry is foreign, but not all. Most of the time they can't carry items made in America because America isn't even producing the item in question. Walmart also carries cheap items to cater to a poorer clientelle. Unfortunately, without these cheap goods the 99% would have to go without.

I worked at a wal-mart for two summers as a cashier in between school years. Wal-mart employees are definitely the 99% and are mostly very poor. However, the Occupy SD people need to take note: the people I worked with were honest and hardworking, and were glad to be making ANY money and to be employed in any job. Leaving 75 carts FULL of merchandise will simply waste the employees time putting it back (nevermind any food that may be spoiled) and proves no point. You look like jerks.

I agree that planned obsolescence is a huge problem yielding burgeoning landfills, but this also stems from the employers choice to maximize profit, and necessitate the purchase of replacement items. It's greedy employers, not greedy unions, at the root of the job exodus.

@aaamerican2 I recently bought an incredibly nice, engraved wooden cutting board at Walmart. It was made in America. It was also the most expensive cutting board they carried. Most of what they carry is foreign, but not all. Most of the time they can't carry items made in America because America isn't even producing the item in question. Walmart also carries cheap items to cater to a poorer clientelle. Unfortunately, without these cheap goods the 99% would have to go without.

The reason that the manufacturing jobs went overseas (one of the reasons) is because Americans wanted cheap goods and yet high pay. These two things can't go together. People can buy from companies that don't exploit workers in other countries, but manufacturing will not come back to the US unless Americans want to pay much more for their goods.

Planned Oppulesence, imposed by the government, also cost us jobs by training us to buy cheap items that will break relatively soon and then replace them over and over. Europe cares more about keeping things out of landfills. They build high quality appliances that will last decades, but thoses appliances are expensive.

I worked at a wal-mart for two summers as a cashier in between school years. Wal-mart employees are definitely the 99% and are mostly very poor. However, the Occupy SD people need to take note: the people I worked with were honest and hardworking, and were glad to be making ANY money and to be employed in any job. I work at that Walmart and do you really think we are going to change our minds and fight for your cause when all " you guys" did was make more work for me and my co workers on a already busy day.
