"kote gaeshi" is not exclusivley a aikido technique ninjutsu uses it jui jitsu and systema men have used it although aikido uses it in its own way that doesnt automatically imply they turn someones hand over and its kote gaeshi from aikido, is just a simple movement most arts would instinctively utilise.
Sadly what brasilians didnt learn from Japanese master is not to teach people with bad charecture just for money. that why so many young tuffs make bad reputation for that art. You must have technique and non ego for to be true master. Not steriods and bad tattoos, making fun of other people and arts. Rickson Gracie is true BJJ master he has this quality.
Every art grows and adjusts to the enemy. In Early years BJJ in brasil trained in Judo for takedowns. Mario Sperry and many others studied Judo Sensei Mehji for the throws. Leg locks were not know to much in BJJ now eveyone does, this is natural.
i know it reminds me of JKD. thought of as primarily a striking form but in fact takedowns etc large part of it. 'do what works and is needed principle'
Personally I train BJJ, not Systema, but I'm interested in all kind of arts. Only nowadays you see a lot of otherwise interesting and complete arts adding a few armbars or RNC here and there just to do like the famous UFC or Pride fighters.
ok, sorry. It seems I overlooked some details then.
Actually I'm not hating on systema like a lot of people on the internet. I'm just worried that systema is adapting and getting more like BJJ just because BJJ is popular now. I hope you can still keep a systema "flavor" even when practicing BJJ-like techniques.
"I don't see much specific systema characteristics. "
The relationship is explained in the DVD proper. A lot of ground movements common in systema warmups are shown in the context of grappling, also core systema concepts of breathing, movement, form, relaxation. etc. Also unlike most BJJ videos that I have seen, there is no list of techniques to memorize (also a systema thing).
nice, but except for a few things this could easily be BJJ. I don't see much specific systema characteristics. Also notice how the instructor is not wearing a helmet, meaning he's not going to get hit back..
"Also notice how the instructor is not wearing a helmet, meaning he's not going to get hit back.. "
In some portions of the clip, both parties are wearing helmets and hitting each other. The portion you speak of probably requires that he refrain from pinning or subbing.
