@dave777blaster - It's my opinion that if Gore had been President, the US wouldn't have gone to war with Iraq. That one thing alone is indicative of a significant difference in the parties. Positions on tax breaks for the rich and defense spending are two others.

Voodoo/trickle down/supply side economics is what makes Starve the Beast look good... just as long as you don't look to closely. Hartmann's explanation here reminds me of my own thoughts of why Democrats are in reality now the new 'fiscal conservatives'. Republicans talk the talk. Democrats walk the walk.

This is so very true!!! During the 1960s, the people's attitude toward government was a complete 180 degrees from where it seems to be today. The government per se is NOT our enemy, though we now have many elected officials in govt. who may be considered as such because their entire purpose in being there is to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor & middle class. The Republicans have sold their souls.  Their only purpose is to pander to predatory international corporations & cut taxes on the rich

Republicans run up enormous deficits (Iraq, unfunded drug benefit, etc.), then cut taxes on the rich to bankrupt our social programs, including Social Security, Medicare, public education, etc.

I'm not a conspiracy buff, but it sure seems to work that way.
