i may offend some people by saying this.......what a fantastic band! but cant say im a fan of the singer. you could do so much with the vocal melody with the type of music they write. they are obviously fantastic song writers but you could do so much more with the vocals!

@blondieney Matt's voice is what makes The National so good. He's not the best singer out there technically, but man, does he infuse personality into his singing! He has such a chill, calm voice and he sings with so much emotion. He's one of a kind, and that's why we love him!

@blondieney In response I'd say, The National's songs are all about portraying the grimey reality, the true emotions in actions, how harsh, false and lonely existence the modern world can be. Taking this into account, as well as the rattling guitars, sharp drumming and melancholic melodies, I really think the way Matt sings compliments and enhances this feeling. Also Matt writes basically all of their material so he is a bit of a God.
