The Earth's past has seen 10-20x CO2 such as the Triassic and Jurassic where life clearly thrived without a runaway greenhouse. Notably, CO2 was low even during the Mediaeval Warm Period which was a few degrees warmer than now.

CO2 lags temp by some 800-2000 years. The Sun's output has a better but still not perfect correlation.

The oceans take MUCH longer to warm and maintain that heat for much longer. Even after a rapid cooling of the Sun the oceans maintain that heat for some decades.
