Rupturing an achilles tendon, whilst it is one of the worst injuries an athlete can suffer, is (in my own experience) one of the least painful serious injuries. After the snap (which is scary as hell by the way because you haven't got a clue what just happened), there is a numb feeling from your calf to your heel. I could even get up and limp around for a while before it became painful. The man is emotional because he knows straight away that the injury will deny him his place at the world cup.

I did the same thing. Instantly, I knew I had ruptured my Achilles tendon, would need surgery in 1 to 2 weeks, would be on crutches for 6 to 6 weeks at least, etc. etc. Only, I did not writhe on the ground.....I got in my car and drove home.
@2pacandbig4life Actually, I did. I had an MRI 2 days later to confirm it and surgery to repair it 4 days later. I did not need an MRI to confirm it. The crunch I felt together with the fact that I could only feel my plantaris tendon (tendon that runs beside the inside of the Achilles) made me feel that I had ruptured my Achilles.

I did the same thing. Instantly, I knew I had ruptured my Achilles tendon, would need surgery in 1 to 2 weeks, would be on crutches for 6 to 6 weeks at least, etc. etc. Only, I did not writhe on the ground.....I got in my car and drove home.

@2pacandbig4life Actually, I did. I had an MRI 2 days later to confirm it and surgery to repair it 4 days later. I did not need an MRI to confirm it. The crunch I felt together with the fact that I could only feel my plantaris tendon (tendon that runs beside the inside of the Achilles) made me feel that I had ruptured my Achilles.

@Perowala Cause your an idiot. You can see that he set back to pivot/ push off his left foot and then his heel goes down when he does. Meaning he either tore or ruptured his achilles tendon, in this case unfortunately its the latter.
I feel for the guy (as Im recovering from the same injury as he is) not only as an athlete but as a person you have no idea how much this takes you out of your everyday/normal life .
