The guitar in this video is Fred's 1960's Rickenbacker 450. He bought it while in the MC5.He removed the Rickenbacker pickups and replaced them with Gibson Humbucking's.This 450 is also a twelve string model that Fred used as a six string .This makes it quite rare with fewer than 300 made.
Rock Action is always on time. If anybody has any type of feed from SRB backing Bowie during his European tour in the 70s- POST IT! Fred kicks out the jams to the highest order known to man.
Man this song moves! I saw SRB about 30 miles outside of Lima,Ohio in the late 70's. Somewheren in the sticks. The joint was like a converted barn. They were so fucking loud and ON IT that I was ecstatic for the next month or so.
I saw SRB about a dozen times. Fred & the band were Ultra talented. Positvely one of the best bands to come out of Michigan. Thats one hell of a compliment considering the amount of great musical talent that Michigan has produced.
Thank you for posting. It's wonderful to see FSS in this incarnation, as I especially loved his contribution (lyrics/lead vocals) to MC5 tunes (like Shakin' Street, which rocks!). All the best ~
Yes there is Scot's Pirates music on a couple of CD's they did with Gary Rasmussen and a few other musicians. Revolutionary Means also had Bobby East on it (was in Kid Rock's band) and Rock Action on those albums as well. Schoolkids Records if you want to buy one.
It's funny, SRB opened for The Ramones, Patti Smith, Johnny Thunders and others at the Second Chance, and you can find bootleg videos of many of many of those bands performances @ the 2nd Chance. Did they just not hit the record button for SRB? Or did the tapes disappear/disintegrate?
Best single to ever come out of Detroit, this side of a Motown 45. I really don't think one could find a more sincere band than SRB. Truly only about the music, no thrills other than Fred's Sonically Speaking guitar play. Rock Action is always on time as well.
Also, I would hardly say that the MC5 never got this close to perfection. That band also had Fredrick Smith on guitar, remember? Kick out the jams.. Best. James, proud owner of an officially licensed SRB hoodie, I told ya'll.
That was fantastic! I never got to see them, as they never got down south, but I am proud to say I have a copy of City Slang, and consider it a prized nugget! There is a group called Flamin Groovies who did a song "Slow Death" you'd all like. I'd love to see more SRB and Flamin Groovies, so post em if ya got em!!!
Hell no the MC5 never got close to this - this is the purest distillation of Detroit rock EVER. All props to big-mouth Wayne but none of his solo stuff can touch SRB. The great Scott Morgan is still out there w/ Powertrane and EVERYONE who has a chance should see them and Gary Rasmussen plays w/ Alvin Hart and is a great guy to talk to. We all know what Scott Asheton's doing (bringing it home in a wheelbarrow...). I've been waiting 10 years to see this clip - thanks.
wasted! are you kidding? you cant waste your time with one of the best rock scenes ever. I feel like wasting my time growing up without any chance to see those awesome bands (well you can see the MC5 with that almost-ridiculous bald wyne kramer)
This is the only video from that gig that was a whole song, or a song that wasn't cutting in and out, cut off or distored beyond belief. It took me over a month to find someone to cynic this well enough to put this one up.
Nevermind my last comment, I didn't see your earlier post about cutoff and distorted film.
It is really too bad there is no more decent footage of SRB. Every show I saw, I always felt like I'd been run over by a train, and I was very happy about that. I can't say enough about those shows at the second chance, the student union, and masonic temple.
does anyone have tabs for this?

great song who got the lyrics of it?
commonthings 4 years ago
There never were really any set lyrics, it was sort of sang off the cuff phoentically. Fred was light years ahead of the rest of the world.
marla141 4 years ago
what? i thought scott morgan sang.

he sang half the tunes
