  • i wannah get a lift on my 97 and get a snorkel and some big ole tires with a chip and a good intake but theres already so much to fix on it its a 2 door would you consider them beter or worse than the 4 door for offroading

  • doesn't it throw codes? what have you done with the o2 sensors?

  • can you override the 02 sincers i have a 2000 ford evplorer limited 4.0 sohc and was thinking about not doing cats

  • @MegaCramer1

    With a custom tune, yes.

  • @Eriic9104 now how would i go about that drill a hole weld a nut and but the o2 sincers in or what

  • @MegaCramer1

    custom tune = reprogrammed ecu

  • @Eriic9104 where can i go to get my ecu reprogrammed to ingoned the 02 sensor?

  • @michaelheiland123654

I forget the name but I believe there's someone online who does custom tunes on explorer ecu's

  • @Eriic9104 can you find out?

  • haha now i just read that you have a bama tuner!! haha i bought mine from doug at bamachips, sweet deal! i think its the best investment i ever made for my explorer.. made my transmission shift like a damn ferrari too which i wasnt expecting!!! makes a big difference in acceleration and fuel mileage, and life of transmission for that matter!

  • in this truck, you have a motor with unleashed power you didnt know it had

get a tuner and you will shit

  • How much did a straight pipe run you?

  • ...It rubs the lotion on its skin!!

  • Good move...a flowmaster wont flow as free as cherry bombs but high flow cats are badass...pre mellinium explorers are the shit...remember..old cats have platinum residue!..yay platinum!

  • First of all as of 1997 the sohc v6 put out 210 hp and a 0-60 of 7.7, my 98 sport has dual cherry bombs, a K&N intake, and has been tuned and tested to 262 hp at 7.1 0-60...I destroy v8 explorers cause they are too heavy, I basically get more with less (cash and power).

  • i put M.A.C intake and im adding flowmaster exhaust and and high flow cat if possible.

  • i have the 96 xlt 5.0 with k and n cold air, superchip flashpaq, customized exhuast, and headers, i had it dyno'd and it has 300HP but it still will only do 0-60 in 8 seconds, i have to get my ECU messed with to change around the ratios to get better accel

  • I took the cat-back off of my 4.0SOHC and just put a pair of dumps on where the factory pipes go into the muffler, i'm still emissions legal but it sounds great. I used to have a flowmaster 55(?) series and i didnt like it cuz it resonated WAY too much inside the cabin. i'm either gonna leave it the way it is now, or get a magnaflow. I'll post a video as soon as i can.

  • 'scuse me, it was a 50 series D/D

  • This was a one day thing, very temp. I had a muffler and all put on asap due to the loudness of the truck.

    I have:

    Intake

    Bamachips 93 Octane Torque Tune

    Electric Fan

    Ported and Shafted Throttle Body

Header Wrapped 2.5" Off Road Y Pipe

    No Cats

  • did the same shit lol its a head turner

  • u guys are all gay wat the hell r u talking about blowing the motor if u rev to 3k just dont talk about cars its not ur subject

  • sounds sweet wats the HP u got?

  • Unless he did any other mods, he's sitting at 200-220hp with this stock SOHC V6.

  • no... the v8 5.0 put out 220. the 4.0 put out about 160

  • wrong. the 4.0 v6 puts 205 hp and 250 lb ft of torque. look it up.

  • Wrong lol the 4.0 SOHC V6 puts out 210hp and i believe 240 242 lb tq

  • your think of the old 4.0 ohv hp 160. the current 1996-now is a 4.0 sohc with 210hp

  • Its 207 HP with a 2008 ranger equipped with a 4.0.

From 1990 to 2000 all 4.0L engines were OHV and had around 155 - 160 Hp and 220 Ft/Lb's, in 2000+ they switched to the SOHC 4.0L where the engines were rated up to 207 Hp and 238 Ft/Lb's.

  • the current 4.0 sohc should more power cuz the new one has multiport injection among other upgrades

  • They both had Multiport. The new one is a Single Overhead Cam with a little better ignition and the advanced computer tuning which makes it more powerful. Same engine with some better parts on them.

  • I had a '98 Explorer with a 4.0L SOHC. It was an option for that year. The OHV was standard, but SOHC was available.

  • and also a ton of explorers up until 2000 still had that 4.0 ohv engine (my 98 is one of them)

  • Cant go wrong with the OHV

  • this actually doesnt sound that bad. ive got an explorer with the 4.0 sohc i might straight-pipe it now.

  • 1893 you wont blow your motor reving to 3000rpm

  • just because it sounds like a v8 doesn't mean you should rev it like a v8,

just keeping you from blowing your motor

  • i do that in my 99 explorer V6 and theres no problems with mine at all

  • it sounds absolutely nothing like a v8

  • I've got a V8 [302ci] Explorer with an exhaust [MAC Catback] and this isn't even close.

  • doesnt sound like a 5.0 but once u get on the road and cruise at about 2000rpm you'd be surprised

  • i redline my 4.0 v6 ranger all day offroading it. it puts up just fine :) same 4.0 explorers had. (just dont over heat them or they crack heads)

  • damn that sounds really good
