I'm sorry but I hated this movie. I don't know why I started to remember this movie but I can't stand the actress Mercedes Ruehl's role in this film.

@DreyfussFan I just thought her character was a bit annoying but whose heart was in the right place. Ruehl is a great actress but I just didn't like her character that much.

This is NOT the usual shallow, surface, crappy happy Yiddish horseshit Simon tends to serve up. He has actually taken us into some deep interiors of family dysfunction and created a couple of absolutely memorable characters. Mercedes and Irene deliver big time as do all the gentlemen in the cast. This is definately one to see.

except I don't believe that's the central plot of Lost in Yonkers, wasn't it more about the 2 boys whose father was traveling the country collecting scrap metal for the war effort? And their Aunt happened to be going through all the hocus pocus at the time?
