Can you guys help explain why spikes pointing upwards form when water freezes? cus everytime I make ice cubes theres always one or two cubes that just slaps gravity in the face and decides to make long pointy spikes
what happens when you drink normal water but then eat the ice after you've eaten the normal ice with the regular water and distilled water with the ice water after eating the freezing ice?
@lilsnooki1234 this does work. it works because it super cools the water, which means it is below freezing but is still a liquid. if you add something else to the super cooled water, the water crystals have something to form on. you have to use very pure water though.
Distilled water, shitload of salt, ice out of an ice maker, careful planning and 15min of your time... All that for a cup of mushy ice?!
For fucks sake youtube, please pay attention during physics class! :( Pure liquid water can even be cooled to below -40 °F (or -40 °C), if not disturbed.
So next time save urself the trouble and just put a beer upright in the freezer. Forget about it for 2hrs, take it out gently and set it down not so gently on a hard surface. Surprise! Instant mushy ice.
im here in the 6th century BC chillin with Zeus where people are only aloud to listen to good music so no auto tune. thumbs up if youre oart of the party! WHOAH!
I think he may have misspoke at :49. Adding the salt to the ice should allow the freezing point of the ice to drop lower then . Salt water has a much lower freezing point then regular water. This is the same reason you add salt to the ice in an old fashion Ice cream machine to make Ice Cream.Conversely, adding salt to water also raises the boiling point. This is why adding salt to pasta makes it cook faster. Great video all the same =)
@VINCHIcodeD5 Physical. A chemical change is when a substance changes into another substance. Ice is still water, just in its solid form. Oh, and to you morons who are going to call me a nerd, at least I pay attention is school so that I wont live in the streets like you.
ah....the fail, t doesn't keep the ice from melting, it makes the ice melt, but in doing so it lowers the freezing point, making it less than 0C and it refreezes...just saying that his explanation was wrong...
@jrigvd Yes i know, i was explaining what would happen had the salt gotten in the water, and its not making the ice colder, its preventing the ice from melting at its freezing point.
@MasterOfWin7 Your body temperature, which should be around 36 degs C will make the water stay as a liquid. You'll still feel chilled and refreshed, though.
@MasterOfWin7 You'll die, and I'm not even kidding, it will freeze in your esophagus before the peristalsis sequence is complete and you'll asphyxiate to death. :)
@SamBoddyGFX Seeing as how iv done this with Gatoraid, it should work with anything. I just took a bottle of Gatoraid and stuck it in the freezer for exactly 1 hour and it works awesome. Looks cool cause of the colors.
