I played 1st trombone in our high school band a hundred years ago and I loved this song because really featured the low brass sections--and it was a b@@@h to play well. Practice, practice!
This is one of the coolest marches for low brass, especially tuba. It is the most epic part, what with all the chromatic runs. I played this in 8th grade to.
I meant in regards to the fact you said it was challenging for a piece written in the 1890's. If you can't draw my connotation from that, there's not much hope for you defending your intelligence.
ha! i love this song! i'm in 7th grade. i had to play this for hounor band! this is really good! the trombones rock! i however play the tenor sax. the chromatic runs are soooooo much fun in this song!!!
low brass could have even shorter articulation though, but i understand how hard it is to play that piece short because i'm a junior and highschool and our school is playing that right now, i've got my part pretty much down solid now i'm a euphonium (baritone for those of you who don't know what a euphonium is)
that's alright....kudos! i am a sophomore in college now, so it was like 4 years ago that i played this march and i still KNOW IT FROM MEMORY, COULD PROBABLY PLAY FASTER THAN THE WAY THEY ARE PLAYING IT....lol

nice job on a difficult piece, maybe a little more dynamics though, not a lot cause it already sounds very good.

I am a trombonist and I love this piece. I always get a nice workout with those chromatic scales.
jawharp1992 4 years ago
Yeah, our low brass and low woodwinds enjoyed the chromatic scales too. :)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
eww. marching bands are the most unmusical groups imaginable besides maybe the mummers

Explain this please? I completely disagree.

Yes, please explain.
People who don't open themselves to contrasting styles are NOT true musicians just so you know...
I'm guessing you DON'T appreciate music, no?
