they did, altogether it was a four lane road, 2 lanes on each side, toward the end of the video his moving into the lane the the right, so on roads like that, you don't necessarily have to go al the way to the shoulder

just focus on the white divider line, you'll see that as he begins driving, the distance between the vehicle and ambulance increases.
