When I was growing up I wasn't allowed to watch Mtv or Vh1. But when I went to my friends houses, Mtv and Vh1 always played music not stupid, unrealistic reality shows.
It really angers me what Disney Channel has become these days. They've lowered their standards to limit their target demographics to little girls. Sure, they had The Mickey Mouse Club in the 50's, and while I was never that much into it, none those kids were as bad, or as overexposed as Britney, or Miley. I wanted to be an animator growing up, and Disney's TV, and theatrical output from the late 80's and early 90's use to be great, but now, they just don't try anymore.

What I don't understand is how that 9-year-old is able to access MTV. If I were her parents I would block it off so that she wouldn't accidentally view it while flipping channels or something. The fact that she's viewing it now at such a young, awkward age (and is on the verge of puberty) is horrifying, and the garbage that they show on that channel is going to brainwash the fuck out of her. What would I do? hmmm. First off, I wouldn't make the teen stars be overexposed, it causes way too much tabloid bullshit. Second, add more adult oriented jokes that the kids don't have to get, not necessarily sexual, but more like stuff the adults could relate to. Third, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with the merchandising! Make some toys and games and shirts, fine, but not an entire line! I wouldn't be surprised to see Miley Cyrus or Jonas Brothers branded condoms in the future.

One saving grace that DID happen on Disney Channel was adding "Have a Laugh" fillers. In between crappy shows, they'd air older cartoons, either original or shortened, redone w/ sports effects known as "Blam!" or redone w/ their modern voices, so you'd hear Bret Iwan doing Mickey instead of Walt. Sadly, they don't show up as much as HM and other crap. And Mickey is demoted to a corny Dora rip-off.
When I saw the first classic Disney cartoon on Disney Channel I'd seen in YEARS, I FINALLY started watching the channel again! Just seeing a few minutes of these classics is better than watching whole episodes of our new crap.

Ironically, Disney Channel's 80s and 90s sitcoms were a flop (except for ones like MMC), and what made them popular was their "Vault Disney" and "Disney Afternoon" blocks. Vault Disney would air all their old Mickey shorts, and Disney Afternoon had memorable shows like Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Gargoyles and Goof Troop. I've seen bits and pieces of shows like HM, ZnC, WWoWP, and Jonas, and all I see is annoying laughter, bad acting, teen stereotypes and too many kids loving it *shoots self*
i remember when disney channel only had one station and when it was called toon disney and had shows like the mighty ducks, alladin the series, bonkers (i think i dont remember), the little mermaid series, talespin, gargoyles, dark wing or whoever the version donald duck as a super hero was, and last but not least hercules
I never watched much of Disney Channel either, and wow, South Park sure is good at poking fun of stuff that the show's target audience of highly intelligent teenagers and young adults hates very proudly.
IMO, the only good Disney Channel shows-which were canceled-are, "That's So Raven", "The Buzz on Maggie", "Even Stevens", and "The Weekenders". Fucking hate all that Disney crap-I'm one of the few teenaged girls with a brain-and MTV crap or any crap in general. Disney World-haven't been to DL-is one of the ONLY links to the old classic Disney. It's true, animated Disney movies kick ass and one of the very few live-action movies by Disney was PotC movies. I completly stopped watching Disney Channel all together. The reason why is because in a interview on tv, the president of Disney Channel Anne Sweeney said it herself, "The main goal of the programming on Disney Channel is not to entertain, but to make money." That right there just prooves they don't give a damn about good entertainment. If they don't care about decent programming, then why should we care about making them money?

What would I do? hmmm. First off, I wouldn't make the teen stars be overexposed, it causes way too much tabloid bullshit. Second, add more adult oriented jokes that the kids don't have to get, not necessarily sexual, but more like stuff the adults could relate to. Third, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with the merchandising! Make some toys and games and shirts, fine, but not an entire line! I wouldn't be surprised to see Miley Cyrus or Jonas Brothers branded condoms in the future.

Grown ups aren't as mature as they used to be. The humor in Disney and Nick sitcoms is basically like any other sitcom for adults. But, at least the kids are being kids. The adults are just being pathetic. It's not just Disney that's gone down hill, although it is lamentable. It's just about every other entertainment outlet, too.

One saving grace that DID happen on Disney Channel was adding "Have a Laugh" fillers. In between crappy shows, they'd air older cartoons, either original or shortened, redone w/ sports effects known as "Blam!" or redone w/ their modern voices, so you'd hear Bret Iwan doing Mickey instead of Walt. Sadly, they don't show up as much as HM and other crap. And Mickey is demoted to a corny Dora rip-off.

Ironically, Disney Channel's 80s and 90s sitcoms were a flop (except for ones like MMC), and what made them popular was their "Vault Disney" and "Disney Afternoon" blocks. Vault Disney would air all their old Mickey shorts, and Disney Afternoon had memorable shows like Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Gargoyles and Goof Troop. I've seen bits and pieces of shows like HM, ZnC, WWoWP, and Jonas, and all I see is annoying laughter, bad acting, teen stereotypes and too many kids loving it *shoots self*

IMO, the only good Disney Channel shows-which were canceled-are, "That's So Raven", "The Buzz on Maggie", "Even Stevens", and "The Weekenders". Fucking hate all that Disney crap-I'm one of the few teenaged girls with a brain-and MTV crap or any crap in general. Disney World-haven't been to DL-is one of the ONLY links to the old classic Disney. It's true, animated Disney movies kick ass and one of the very few live-action movies by Disney was PotC movies. Could you do a rant on Nintendo?
