Amazing the entire scene was filmed in a studio, the plane in the background is a painting and the people in the background are midgets. Wiki 'Forced Perspective'.
@DanteDMCry Woody used this clip in the opening scene of his own 1972 film,"Play It, Again Sam". As he sits in the theater watching it, the camera keeps coming back to Woody's face, eyes focussed and mouth agape. I can't think of any better tribute from one director to another (Allen to Curtiz).
@salehkareemable download "VUZE" its a free program search engine where i download anykind of movie a 100,000 or more free movies. Some old, some new.
The thing is, studies have shown that people tend to regret inactivity more than activity, when faced with a life changing decision. While her boarding that plane may have been the right thing to do, she'll probably regret that decision more than had she chosen to stay. In the bigger scope of things, doing the right thing is best, but it does very little for regret sometimes...
U cant text the emotion and romance shown here...and theres no group of girlfriends to egg u on or prop u up...its just man and woman...and i think we have lost this...
i love this movie... i can soooo relate.one has to give up because the other legally belongs to another..just because the other gave up doesnt mean that there was no love.that it doesnt take much to see that the problem of 3 diff people don't amount to a hill of bean in this crazy world.for my part, this is my line: "we'll always have that summer..." here's looking at you mister.=)
Renaults expression - pours a glass and then stares at the bottle with disgust before trashing it.
This movie is full of great lines. Bogeys are timeless.
Also Lazlows quote: "welcome back to the fight Rick, this time I know our side will win" - very uplifting and inspiring. Ilsa still in tears as they walk toward the plane. They don't have acting like this today
My best recollection of this particular scene is from Woody Allen's "Play It Again, Sam". The character that Woody plays stares open-mouthed at the screen while Bogart says his lines of movie history. Cinema viewing itself and in awe.
"If that plane leaves the ground and you're not on it, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life."
Back then all actors were theatrically trained. Because the cinema was considered a new experimental type of industry, most actors had to trained for both theatrical acting and screen acting. Nowadays an actor can't be bothered to be trained at all when most that are industry should be trained into acting. So many young starlets nowadays are just horrible to say the least when it comes to their acting talent.
It's a movie, but this is back in the Silver Screen Era, things were more theatrical, however the level of theatrics isn't that much above how people really did behave, we just look back it as being theatrical.
"If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And for the rest of your life." "We'll always have Paris." "Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of." "Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble. But it doesn't take much to see that the problems of 3 little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world." "Now, now. Here's looking at you, kid." Pretty good for 3 mins.
It seems as though 5 people "Won't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world". "Someday they'll understand that." "Here's looking to you fags" who don't appreciate this cinematic masterpiece.
lets just admit it !!! cinema has evolved just like any other event that carries on for years and years .. actors like JOHNNY DEPP are no less legendary/talented then legends like Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable. there will ALWAYS be bad/bland actors no matter what DECADE we are in. those who give modern filmmakers/actors no respect because they cherish the classics are just plain IGNORANT. truth is, classics are more dialogue driven therefore the big stars have a greater chance to shine.

@420Rokn you know, after making this comment I then became a fan of a certain television show involving equines that I would also harshly trash on. I t happened when I finally game the show a try, and it turns out I liked the very show I used to make fun of people for liking.
this taught me one thing. not to complain about something until after I have given it a fair shot. meaning I will no longer complain about twilight until I give it an honest shot.
@WildBillKelso1 While I agree with you both, at least your original comment, this last response is sort of ridiculous. Getting laid is generally not the end goal of romance. Aside from that, if getting laid was all that you were looking for, there are countless strange characters with interesting stories out there. You just need to stop looking in the gutter if you're wanting for something better, or more interesting.
@crimsonsamuraiftw I've been married for 12 years so i don't need a 17-20 that likes to send erotic pictures of themselves on the terminal or tricorder because of the current generations insecurity with themselves. And if you,me or anybody else wanted to get laid from one of them it wouldn't be too hard, they just give it up to anyone because chicks are so easy these days. And i have enough interesting stories of my own.
@WildBillKelso1 Maybe the "majority" that you've come across in your own personal travels, but you must also be aware that bland generalization like that never works anywhere that it has been applied. There are still many people out there who will surprise you if you take off the irrationally prejudiced viewing goggles. I can not speak for experiences ingested by others, but I can certainly say with great approximation that not all people are the same in any one quality, of any generation.
@crimsonsamuraiftw Maybe you just need to get out live your life more instead of spending all your time on the terminal. And if you do try not using big words to come across as some smart and sophisticated individual because most people you meet in the real world would assume that you were trying to come across like you are better than everyone elsea prick on the first meeting.
@crimsonsamuraiftw Maybe you just need to get out live your life more instead of spending all your time on the terminal. And if you do try not using big words to come across as some sophisticated smart ass individual because most people you meet in the real world would assume that you were trying to come across like you are better than everyone else and take you for a prick on the first meeting. But i guess that generalization coming from life experience which you obviously have none of.
@WildBillKelso1 You are wrong about this. Women in every century are all worthy to hear those words, and the real matter is : Do you have the courage to tell them like that ?. And maybe the real reasons why men dont talk to women like this nowadays because : 1, they havent found their true love yet. 2, they are afraid to become a joke in other men's conversation. And 3, there isnt a love like in this movie anymore for men to talk in that way with women.
@WildBillKelso1 I love the way he talks to her, so sweet, so tender. But I also love the way he treasures her. If you dont have anyone who you can treasure, then ofcourse, there is no one in this world who is worthy enough for you to talk like the man in this movie. If women nowadays are all not worthy enough for men to give them those sweet words, then who do you think is worthy enough for you, and for all the men, to give those words to?
@WildBillKelso1 Iam sorry I didn't mean to insult the way you are thinking at all. Iam a woman myself, and when I read your comment, it's just so sad to think that Iam also not worthy enough for men, at least one, to give those sweet words to me, which I have been longing for. In my country, there is a proverb says that :"The way to a woman's heart is through her ears", so I assume that all women are deserved for those words.
@WildBillKelso1 I don't think women are all that bad, it's just the way they react is different from one after another. But that's how life is, right. If all women are the same, then how boring can it be!. You just need to find the way to her heart, and then, maybe, you can see how beautiful she is. They said : "Inside a man, there is a child", I think inside a woman there is a child also, who is longing for love and care.
@CorneliaBui People back in those days had something they don't now, morals. And back in those days people matured earlier because they had no other choice, unlike the middle aged children of today.I don't know how women are in your country so i can't speak for them. But in mine alot of them act like whores and have no class and want to be treated like ladies.Maybe thats why alot of guys in the navy marry asian women.
@WildBillKelso1 i beg to disagree. women, no matter what facade they put up, will always be little princesses waiting for their prince charming to sweep them off their feet.its just that in this crazy world,a lot of casanovas have hurt women that its practically useless to be nice and sweet to d men in general. HMP!
@missdemeanorchris Thats the problem you women have, you live in a dream world and want to be swept off your feet and someone to give you the moon{and that still aint enough}but none of you would do anything like that for a man,its all about you.And how long would you stay with the"prince"after he lost his kingdom and everything else he had.
@WildBillKelso1 oh my.looks like somebody has hurt you so badly that you are lashing at all the girls in the universe.haha!for your information mister, women sacrifice more than men.wake up to reality.it is give and take.what u see as not enough may be so much for the giver, and vice versa.as to you question"how long wil u stay wd ur prince after he lost hs kingdom and evrything else he had", well guess what. "how long will u stay with the princess after she has lost her youthful beauty and body?"
@missdemeanorchris Who hasnt.I dont like princesses i like women my age.As long as the woman takes care of herself and doesnt become a fixture in the furniture she wouldnt lose it as bad.Nobody wants someone that lays around and watches the flicker box all day.Ive been with my old lady for 15 years, she still looks good but aint what she once was,but ill take her over some 18 year old hot tail any day.Personality helps alot,It aint always about looks.
@WildBillKelso1 precisely! so you are with the "almost perfect woman". shouldn't u be thankful that you have one?so you shouldn't be lashing at all the other women in the world.you are being inconsistent.
@missdemeanorchris I only speak for the ones in my country.Shes way off from perfect, but i still bare her presence. The majority of women in my country are easy, she wouldnt be hard to replace, and she knows it.
@WildBillKelso1 Look I was born and raised in the United States but my parents are from Mexico and the women from there are just so different in their way of thinking and age has nothing to do with it. I dated a couple of girls from here in my day and they all shared one common trait and that was a sense of entitlement. They felt they were entitled to be princesses that a man should grovel at their feet all this while giving nothing in return. They felt that doing anything for a man...
whether it was cooking him a meal or ironing a damn shirt is demeaning yet they still want flowers and candy and the man to open doors etc... So many women say that chivalry is dead, it's not dead its in a coma but it was put there by the feminist movement. Im not saying there's nothing wrong with a woman having rights and a voice but it was taken to such an extreme that it ruined the balance that relationships had back then. Men and women CAN be EQUAL but they CAN NEVER be the SAME...
@robzrx7 Yes, you're totally right, feminism is a terrible thing. Women want to vote and to have the right to get an education?? That's terrible! I too miss the old days when women simply did what their men wanted them to! Down with feminism!!!
Oh, it was all sarcasm in case you're wondering. I think that you're just an ignorant arsehole. When you wrote "Im NOT saying there's nothing wrong with a woman having rights and a voice" you just showed us how fucking retarded you are.
there's nothing wrong with having "gender roles" as long as there's balance. Both my wife and I work but I happen to have a second job my wife on the other hand makes sure I ALWAYS have clean ironed clothes a clean house and a hot meal when ever I want one. All of this she does not because I obligate her to do it but because she loves me and has a sense of responsibility and respect for our marriage. I, in return spoil her rotten, she has never heard the word "NO" from me, I take her out...
every week and buy her purses and shoes and clothes and flowers just because. I tell her I love her every day I kiss her and love her every chance that I get. People have forgotten to love each other they look at their relationships like a rivalry a competition where one side has to win. Its not about that its about making the other person happy because if you really do love that person by them being happy you will be happy too
@robzrx7 it's foolish and dangerous to put all your eggs in one basket like that, making one person your entire deciding force for whether or not you're happy, no matter who they are, is a recipe for disaster.
when you first meet someone, you first get to know someone, you put your best foot forward. you show that person you in your prime, and the vast majority of the time, you aren't displaying the real you. just the you that you wish you were. it's okay though, because the other person is doing the same.
you get a bit comfortable, but you feel compelled to make what you said you were a reality. love becomes both a byproduct and a fuel of those efforts.
@ITILII That's the beauty of great actors and actresses.I am just so thankful we will always have great classics like this one.It was a time to me when actors were more defined and recognizable for style. Not just a pretty face or awesome special effects ,which do have there place,i just love the classics..And Olivier, your right one of the greats definetly.
It seems as though 3 people "Won't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world" after clicking the dislike button. "Someday they'll understand that."
@prokaryotex it wasn't wine; it was Vichey water; Vichey is famous for its springs and mineral water and it was also the seat of government of the French Nazi collaborators
yeah, best movie ever. '.... heres locking at you, kid .. love you, Lange, ...nobody knows what the future will be brought ..., but ... we'll always have Montreal,.. Quebec, ... Vienna,.. Berlin, .........'
everytime i listen to this part o the movie, somethings thrills me
I suppose we all men wanted to be as Rick in that final speech and as strong as he is supposed to be then in a situation like that, even though I knew he was lying and loosing the only real love he ever knew
Bogart was the epitome of noir style. The classic lines just keep coming thick and fast one after the other: "We'll always have Paris","don't amount to a hill of beans","Here's looking at you kid"...
When was the last time a recent movie had a memorable line other than "I'll be back"?
Small point... as the shooting of the dastardly Major Strasser offended no one Im sure... Im confused on WHY he was trying to stop the plane with Laslo and Ilsa aboard... after all... didnt they have the Letters of Transit signed by Ben Turpin...errrrr.... Hitler himself? Loved Casablanca especially the singing scene where they drowned out the Nazis...
Wikipedia, Forced perspective: For example, the final scene of the famous movie Casablanca takes place at an airport in the middle of a storm, although the entire scene was shot in a studio. This was accomplished by using a painted backdrop of an aircraft, which was "serviced" by dwarfs standing next to the backdrop. A downpour (created in-studio) draws much of the viewer's attention away from the backdrop and extras, making the simulated perspective less noticeable.
This film is great. yYou can watch it over and over without it getting boring. This ending scene was perfect in every aspect of film making. The acting, directing, screenplay, music. It was just perfect. Now that's a classic.
Bring back the writers like this hollywood! The country is dead. You can do it.People dont know true love now.All they know is lust and cheap gutter trash lines that mean nothing.Wont be long this country will be gone. Thanks worseto. Media is a standard as to how we are as a society.

CorneliaBui 6 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 I love the way he talks to her, so sweet, so tender. But I also love the way he treasures her. If you dont have anyone who you can treasure, then ofcourse, there is no one in this world who is worthy enough for you to talk like the man in this movie. If women nowadays are all not worthy enough for men to give them those sweet words, then who do you think is worthy enough for you, and for all the men, to give those words to?
CorneliaBui 6 months ago
@CorneliaBui The sea,and my Panhead, the wife comes in a distant third.
WildBillKelso1 6 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 Iam sorry I didn't mean to insult the way you are thinking at all. Iam a woman myself, and when I read your comment, it's just so sad to think that Iam also not worthy enough for men, at least one, to give those sweet words to me, which I have been longing for. In my country, there is a proverb says that :"The way to a woman's heart is through her ears", so I assume that all women are deserved for those words.
CorneliaBui 6 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 I don't think women are all that bad, it's just the way they react is different from one after another. But that's how life is, right. If all women are the same, then how boring can it be!. You just need to find the way to her heart, and then, maybe, you can see how beautiful she is. They said : "Inside a man, there is a child", I think inside a woman there is a child also, who is longing for love and care.
CorneliaBui 6 months ago

HMP!
missdemeanorchris 5 months ago
@missdemeanorchris Thats the problem you women have, you live in a dream world and want to be swept off your feet and someone to give you the moon{and that still aint enough}but none of you would do anything like that for a man,its all about you.And how long would you stay with the"prince"after he lost his kingdom and everything else he had.
WildBillKelso1 5 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 oh my.looks like somebody has hurt you so badly that you are lashing at all the girls in the universe.haha!for your information mister, women sacrifice more than men.wake up to reality.it is give and take.what u see as not enough may be so much for the giver, and vice versa.as to you question"how long wil u stay wd ur prince after he lost hs kingdom and evrything else he had", well guess what. "how long will u stay with the princess after she has lost her youthful beauty and body?"
missdemeanorchris 5 months ago
@missdemeanorchris Who hasnt.I dont like princesses i like women my age.As long as the woman takes care of herself and doesnt become a fixture in the furniture she wouldnt lose it as bad.Nobody wants someone that lays around and watches the flicker box all day.Ive been with my old lady for 15 years, she still looks good but aint what she once was,but ill take her over some 18 year old hot tail any day.Personality helps alot,It aint always about looks.
WildBillKelso1 5 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 precisely! so you are with the "almost perfect woman". shouldn't u be thankful that you have one?so you shouldn't be lashing at all the other women in the world.you are being inconsistent.
missdemeanorchris 5 months ago
@missdemeanorchris I only speak for the ones in my country.Shes way off from perfect, but i still bare her presence. The majority of women in my country are easy, she wouldnt be hard to replace, and she knows it.
WildBillKelso1 5 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 ok.if that's the case, then don't generalize.because not all women are the same. =)

WildBillKelso1 5 months ago
@WildBillKelso1 Look I was born and raised in the United States but my parents are from Mexico and the women from there are just so different in their way of thinking and age has nothing to do with it. I dated a couple of girls from here in my day and they all shared one common trait and that was a sense of entitlement. They felt they were entitled to be princesses that a man should grovel at their feet all this while giving nothing in return. They felt that doing anything for a man...
robzrx7 3 months ago
whether it was cooking him a meal or ironing a damn shirt is demeaning yet they still want flowers and candy and the man to open doors etc... So many women say that chivalry is dead, it's not dead its in a coma but it was put there by the feminist movement. Im not saying there's nothing wrong with a woman having rights and a voice but it was taken to such an extreme that it ruined the balance that relationships had back then. Men and women CAN be EQUAL but they CAN NEVER be the SAME...
robzrx7 3 months ago 7

@robzrx7 Yes, you're totally right, feminism is a terrible thing. Women want to vote and to have the right to get an education?? That's terrible! I too miss the old days when women simply did what their men wanted them to! Down with feminism!!!
Oh, it was all sarcasm in case you're wondering. I think that you're just an ignorant arsehole. When you wrote "Im NOT saying there's nothing wrong with a woman having rights and a voice" you just showed us how fucking retarded you are.
richardus 3 weeks ago
there's nothing wrong with having "gender roles" as long as there's balance. I, in return spoil her rotten, she has never heard the word "NO" from me, I take her out...
robzrx7 3 months ago
every week and buy her purses and shoes and clothes and flowers just because. I tell her I love her every day I kiss her and love her every chance that I get. People have forgotten to love each other they look at their relationships like a rivalry a competition where one side has to win. Its not about that its about making the other person happy because if you really do love that person by them being happy you will be happy too
robzrx7 3 months ago
@robzrx7 it's foolish and dangerous to put all your eggs in one basket like that, making one person your entire deciding force for whether or not you're happy, no matter who they are, is a recipe for disaster.
Exarian 3 months ago
@Exarian Agreed, but that's love.....
Qrtzapp 3 months ago
@Qrtzapp love is a work, built on yourself.
when you first meet someone, you first get to know someone, you put your best foot forward. you show that person you in your prime, and the vast majority of the time, you aren't displaying the real you. just the you that you wish you were. it's okay though, because the other person is doing the same.
you get a bit comfortable, but you feel compelled to make what you said you were a reality. love becomes both a byproduct and a fuel of those efforts.
Exarian 3 months ago
