Hopkins is 6'1. His frame can easily carry the weight and if you look at his chest and arms now, he's natural at the weight at this point. He was actually too skinny at 160, but was always disciplined enough to make the weight. Much like Tommy Hearns in that regard.

This fight was not fixed it was a left hook to the body that caused De La Hoya to go down it looked fixed because it was a delayed reaction

i liked DLH ever since he participated in the olympics. up until he started to hold onto guys and tried to steal rounds. after that i could respect his accomplishments but never again look at him in the same light

Liver shots are painful period, it's one of those 50/50 hits. I kicked in the liver during sparring when I was taking karate, it's no joke. It's worse than getting the wind knock out of you, but it is a slit delayed reaction, but when it kicks in your done.
Like football you get a stinger you are going down, period!

@tinoman2 A punch at the kidney is illegal. The liver is not a kidney, though. The kidneys are sort of at your back. The liver is a very big organ that even wraps around your right side a bit. If you aim at an area spanning from the below nipple all the way to the floating ribs you can hurt it. Of course, the lower you go the easier it is to get an effect, because the resistance of the ribs will decrease. Very effective shot and one of the most painful ways to lose a fight. And 100% legal

Bernard Hopkins made a living of fighting smaller guys back then usually former welterweights. Dont belive me?? check out "box rec .com" and see where most his opponents were fighting just a few years before they fought hopkins.

Hopkins has always moved up and down in weight to fight his opponents at the weight they're comfortable He always seems to be 5 to 10 years older than the opponent he's facing, and at 46 he has become the oldest man in boxing history to capture a title off a guy 20 years younger than him. Not to mention he didn't learn how to box until he was like 20, in a prison system, and had no amateur career. Hopkins only advantage in the ring is his dedication, not size.

@alfredoelhombre Hopkins at this point is a natural 175 pounder. Manny Stewart even said once he could have moved up in weight long before he did, but the big money fights were at 160. Hopkins is 6'1. His frame can easily carry the weight and if you look at his chest and arms now, he's natural at the weight at this point. He was actually too skinny at 160, but was always disciplined enough to make the weight. Much like Tommy Hearns in that regard.

@Antrizzle2009 You just described 90% of boxers fighting between 118 and 160. I remember when he trained to move up against Tarver and the diet he had to go on get his weight to get to 175. Your natural walking around weight versus your fight weight is completely different. You have welters who walk around at 160-185. Most of whom would not be able to fight at their natural weight. Like I said... He beat fighters bigger than him as he put time in to put the fight weight no right.

@alfredoelhombre I know all about walking around weight. Hopkins is actually one of the few disciplined guys that doesn't put on a bunch of weight between fights. Mayweather is another one. Hopkins even now probably walks around at 180. Dude is a gym rat. But you're right about the Tarver fight and him having to add weight. But that was 5 years ago. He's grown into that weight now is all I was saying. He's a natural 175 pound fighter at this point. Just like Pacquaio is a natural 147er now.

de la hoya was in over his head on this one,too small for Hopkins,his power at 160 was nonexistent his speed was his only asset but B-Hop was just too much for him.
