Thanks dude am a big fan ,and lived the early days and did not no where too get some of these tracks so i can share with my son who is now 18 .Thanks bro big respect .
Great video john, 80s is my favorite era even til today. My favorite artists from this genre would be Newcleus, Hashim, Afrika Bambaataa, Cybotron, Twilight 22, Egyptian Lover, Herbie Hancock and Freestyle Express to name a few. Here is a list of songs from these artists, 1) Jam On It- Newcleus 2) Electric Kingdom- Twilight 22 3) Clear- Cybotron 4) Egypt, Egypt- Egyptian Lover 5) Planet Rock- Afrika Bambaataa 6) Dont Stop The Rock- Freestyle Express 7) The Party Has Just Begun- Freestyle Exp
Really great clip man. For me the ten greatest electro cuts ever are these THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN ROCK---CAPTAIN ROCK JAM ON IT---NUCLEUS PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK---PLANET PATROL BE BOP DONT STOP---MAN PARISH LET THE MUSIC PLAY 12"---SHANNON KILLER GOOVE---FORMULA V LOVE ATTACK---SHANTELLE PLANET ROCK---AFRIKA BAMBATTA, DONT GO 12" YAZOO---Im serious this is a killer mix THE SOUL---AL NAAFIYSH HASHIM
electro from 80s doesn't mean it's not alive today. when a style gets born it is forever. and i like electro. i can tell things about it. electro uses hip hop beats, vibrating bass, acid sounds, laser kicks, robot voices, rapping and etc. but unfortunately today most of house listeners and video uploaders are mistaken about electro and they call some house songs electro which is incorrect. electro & house are different genres though the first form of house chicago house is influenced by electro
Appreciate this dude knows and is passionate about true electro...not electro as what these guys call it today. The experimental sound can now be heard in most dance, hip hop, new school electro and mostly anything u hear in the clubs...those experimental producers paved the way for the cats today.
I had a real culture clash talking to young people about electro. I found out recently, to my chagrin that today it's that annoying commercial house sound with the Clangers screeching all over it that has taken the label "electro" So if you talk about liking electro to anyone under 30 and they think your talking about commercial mush like Deadmau5, Axwell or Benny Benassi. Long gone are the days when electro =underground sounds.
A few other early electro songs I would recommend checking out would be Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Riot in Lagos" (1980), and "1000 Knives" (1980) and "Pure Jam" (1981) by Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO).
These were probably the first tracks to have that distinct "electro" sound, since they were the first to use the Roland TR-808 drum/rhythm machine that was used by most electro artists.
These YMO & Sakamoto tracks were a huge inspiration for early electro artists like Afrika Bambaataa, Mantronix, etc.
There was nothing like "crucial" electro and still isn't.I get all emotional when I hear it.Keep teaching the youth and pay now attention to the haters.pz
malcom mc claren was up there "buffalow gals", and just to throw a spanner at yah. I got this thing in my mind about, its the true origins of rap. well u c Sir Mix-a-lot came out with "squaire dance rap" right, is this not a calling card? I mean just think barn dance country music, now can any one tell me who was the first to rap?
This would sound amazing as a sample. I almost thought that it WAS one. This guy's voice is just so suited to it; him just saying random stuff over a beat would be brilliant.
I love 80's electro, i have all these tracks on 12" just wish i wasnt born in 1990 so i could of lived it. These tracks had a big influence on me growing up.

Don't get it twisted hip-hop originally had a lot of differing element with regards to music and it's form of electronica is one that without a doubt wouldn't of exist with out Kraftwerk.
Love all your Vids. Tracks from that period used similar instruments and sounds just like any era. However, they are different in many ways. To most people it sounds the same which is why I think you mentioned that. Nucleus is another. wicky, wicky, wicky, wicky. Good job brother. A correction for the youngan who corrected you by saying it used to be called hip hop. No it did'nt, it was called break music. Generations who came afterward mistakingly called it hip hop. Early 80s, great time for me. Young boy, still fairly new to the world being hit by Star Wars and Electro music in a very small space of time. Still gives me goosebumps.

Arrogance of de white man - black music is big cos de soul and spirit of it, is about freedom of expression from slavery. Music makes dj's big. Don't get it twisted.
@UnchainTheNight1 - A statement wid no proof is stupid. When the black man speaks the truth, u condemn him. Now, in terms of the point that i have made about Planet rock, prove dat it's not de case, or shut de fcuk up maan and go listen to ur metallica shit.
De arrogance of the white man - let me tell u sum ting white bwoy - ain't no white man introduced my easrs to black music, of anykind, and funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, all dem black music is big cos people love de musik and not de DJ's. U must think only white man can buy records. No DJ can or has made any music big. It a de people dat make musik big. daam idiot.
@UnchainTheNight1 - Go bring some metallica dj to black people and u c how big him and his musik get. it's pure white man a buy black music, a no black man a buy off white music. go chek it out. u fool. same ting me a say - what does a white man know bout hip hop. Dem want claim every ting. well dat nah run wid black muisc. Rememba dis ting.
@UnchainTheNight1 - Another White bwoy get destroyed wid facts - It call Patois, fool, an essential ingredient to de creation of rapping, but just like me say - what does a white man know bout hip hop.
Respek other cultures form of expressions - if not - den no bada listen to black music.
@UnchainTheNight1 - yea - i went to de school of hip hop - a place u def def def ain't been and can neva neva neva go to - cos u wouldn't make statements like this one
''white people bought and white djs over in the uk played it and made it big
let me make that a little more clear for your dumb ass, if no one buys your music it doesnt make it anywhere'' - stick to ur bloodclaat metallica.
@mallcolmx What the heck are you talking about? Do you know how many white and mixed race people are responsible for classic hiphop? Its not about colour m8, its about music.
Anyone who knows anything bout hip hop will tell u dat u can't talk about de history of electro and not mention or even play dis tune - cos dis is where it all began.
PLANET ROCK - Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force - u feel me -
MAN PARRISH hip hop bee bop . still fantastic even now , i grew up with this , took ages to source on CD back in the 90's infact the whole album is great. its nice to see you have done this keep it going.
dont forget nitro deluxe and paul hardcastle rain forest another set of classics
The "cheap and cheerful" drum machines were the Roland TR-808 and the Linn LM-1 - neither of which were cheap when these tracks were made!
They sounded a little different from record to record because the machines had separate outputs for each drum, so every engineer did his own "real mix" with EQ and reverb as if he was mixing real drums.
1st, 3rd, and 4th tracks are classic. Not familiar with the 2nd. I remember breakdancing to these as a 5th grader. Herbie is a magic man. Man Parrish also had a nice club track called "Heatstroke", but "Hip Hop Be Bop" will never go away.
thanks ellaskins..this is going straight in my isperation folder. im just starting to get a grip on music production. i want to make tunes with that early electro sound mixed with more modern style synth stuff. love the breaks of the old days!
only using software at the moment though.
in a few months i will be uploading some of my work and would love it if you could give me your honest opinion.
Hey guis, i'm gonna buy some cdj's and a mixer.. I think i'm quite in too 2 cdj 400 and a behringer ddm4000(can't affort an DJM 800 :'() how does this sound, i'm a newbie in hardware mixing, but have been messin' around traktor 3 and virtuel dj for quite some time.. i wanna get a good quality set-up but i have got a tight budget.. im a bit worried about the quality off the mixer, but loove the idea of many effects, sampling and 4 channels.. hope u'll help me out (;
Great, this is some old skool Electro, the last track is the bomb, you should of also talked about Grand Master Flash and Africa Bambaataa, they were very important in the 80's Electro scene.
btw...when i first heard this stuff was around 1984..the only ways to get this stuff was to buy the 12 inch single of each record that was on say for instance "electro" or "crucial electro" that you talk about..the u.s. equivalent of these later on has been Street Jams: Electric Funk Volumes 1-4. These songs are so classic ...they were played at all the roller rinks i ever went to. They are by far timeless compared with the top 40 of the time which were much bigger hits as a result of billboard
Neither one of you is wrong..See, in the UK, music such as Hashim and Egyptian Lover are marketed as electro music, whereas it's marketed as electro funk..or old school hip hop in the states..depends on where you're from. Its subjective..Clearly it might be a smart move to market it this way..old school stuff like that is light years away from being anything like today's hip hop.
Thanks dude am a big fan ,and lived the early days and did not no where too get some of these tracks so i can share with my son who is now 18 .Thanks bro big respect .

@UnchainTheNight1 - A statement wid no proof is stupid. When the black man speaks the truth, u condemn him. Now, in terms of the point that i have made about Planet rock, prove dat it's not de case, or shut de fcuk up maan and go listen to ur metallica shit.
mallcolmx 2 years ago
1. you've more than proven that you're stupid
2. i'm not condemning because you're black, i'm condemning you for being stupid
3. if it wasn't for white people rap wouldn't have made it big in the first place
4. being black is not a requirement for liking old-school hip-hop/electro
5. i don't like metallica
now stop being a retarded racist
UnchainTheNight1 2 years ago
@UnchainTheNight1 - ''if it wasn't for white people rap wouldn't have made it big in the first place''
Only a whiteman, who knows nothing about Rap, hip hop, electro funk would say that.
So how did white people make rap big in the first place.
Where do i say that being black is not a requirement for liking old-school hip-hop/electro ?
mallcolmx 2 years ago
white people bought and white djs over in the uk played it and made it big

@mallcolmx What the heck are you talking about? Do you know how many white and mixed race people are responsible for classic hiphop? Its not about colour m8, its about music.

Anyone who knows anything bout hip hop will tell u dat u can't talk about de history of electro and not mention or even play dis tune - cos dis is where it all began.

qwampa1 2 years ago
MAN PARRISH hip hop bee bop . still fantastic even now , i grew up with this , took ages to source on CD back in the 90's infact the whole album is great. its nice to see you have done this keep it going.
dont forget nitro deluxe and paul hardcastle rain forest another set of classics
fatthinslim 2 years ago
The "cheap and cheerful" drum machines were the Roland TR-808 and the Linn LM-1 - neither of which were cheap when these tracks were made!
They sounded a little different from record to record because the machines had separate outputs for each drum, so every engineer did his own "real mix" with EQ and reverb as if he was mixing real drums.
gimmiethejuice 2 years ago
1st, 3rd, and 4th tracks are classic. Not familiar with the 2nd. I remember breakdancing to these as a 5th grader. Herbie is a magic man. Man Parrish also had a nice club track called "Heatstroke", but "Hip Hop Be Bop" will never go away.

tableturns77 2 years ago 2
Great, this is some old skool Electro, the last track is the bomb, you should of also talked about Grand Master Flash and Africa Bambaataa, they were very important in the 80's Electro scene.
kidkree1 2 years ago
btw...when i first heard this stuff was around 1984..the only ways to get this stuff was to buy the 12 inch single of each record that was on say for instance "electro" or "crucial electro" that you talk about..the u.s. equivalent of these later on has been Street Jams: Electric Funk Volumes 1-4. These songs are so classic ...they were played at all the roller rinks i ever went to. They are by far timeless compared with the top 40 of the time which were much bigger hits as a result of billboard
janinemrtn 2 years ago
Neither one of you is wrong..See, in the UK, music such as Hashim and Egyptian Lover are marketed as electro music, whereas it's marketed as electro funk..or old school hip hop in the states..depends on where you're from. Its subjective..Clearly it might be a smart move to market it this way..old school stuff like that is light years away from being anything like today's hip hop.

can enybody give title of those SONG ?

while there may be controversy about the history you present, no one can deny that you chose the right first track to play.
