i agree with madhippie17. blending does make the pic look good, but for me an artist as well, I find it more challenging to draw with fine lines rather than blending tones together with an eraser or brush. its better to draw in tones(shading) then to "blend" pencil shading with an eraser...
Can agree with that to. But also, its hard to know how the artist wants it. In my world there isnt anything like "It should be like this" in the artist world.

No.
Blending is unprofessional (in my opinion).
In some way, it cancels the spirit of the person which is drawn. It is better to shade by f.e. fine lines. Then the drawing has a lot more character.

For sure:
I just used a pencil & a very soft rubber, thats it.
The pencil looks strange because it became really short, so I used a "pencil-holder".
