@TheSlycooper345 No, it isn't, but if something happens to your phone software and if you don't remove the root, you will most likely loose your warranty. The root is amazingly easy to remove, so the case above is very rare.

Step 3 – Flash Cyanogen's image (emedded in the app)

Step 4 – reboot into Recovery mode (home + power)

@Kromius99 assuming you flash to a new rom, you will not be shown the OTA update, so if you want to use the upcoming OTA you will most likely lose your root. But most people just flash to the new version, there may even be 2.1 roms for the "eve", i dont know i havent looked myself

in this mode an application can do literally everything with your mobile, starting from flashing a new os over overclocking to damaging your phone.

It's basically the linux's administrator account.

Android being a "public" version of Linux, some actions are locked to the default user.

Being Root allow you to acess these locked functions.

A good exemple of this is the Multi-Touch. It is locked by default even if the G1 can take it (It's because of the iPhone patent). You need to be root to unlock it.

Can someone explain how this works? The way to root by downgrading to RC29/7 works because some donut (pun intended) left a terminal shell with root permissions running in the background, which allows us to spawn an instance of telnet with root permissions (and let us flash the recovery image). So, how does this work? Without root permissions you can't remount /system as rw and flash the recovery image. Can anyone explain this?

If you go into recovery mode once will you be able to do it agian, because i used the app and then booted into recovery mode attempted to back up but i didn't have enough space... then i rebooted back into the phone normaly without doing anything. Now when i try to boot into recovery mode It just gives me an exclamation mark

I updated instructions on the blog - you can do 32A just fine but you have to download the recovery.img to your sdcard and type it into the box.
