  • how much ur eeepc 901 coast

  • it's sub $300 now

  • what eeepc is beter ? 900 or 900a or 901 ?

  • Eee PC 901

  • Bootup time is not a true test of speed and tells of the laptops processing capabilities.

    #1 Get a tripod.

#2 Try running several windows of the same application, such as multiple windows of a video of at least 10meg each.

#3 Attempt a download of a few large files at the same time.

Eventually you will tax each system, but will find out which one can handle the load better.

Additionally, a true multi-thread test would be to read from an A: drive during all the above.

  • again... ;)

this video is about 6 months old now and it was shot during the ASUS pressconference. There was no chance to do any other tests. Just check out my other videos or my site and you will find a dozen reviews.

  • TAKING ASIDE THE hardware and all the button pressing time..They take about the same time

  • stupid test

  • Windows xp has (mysteriously) different boot up time between a session and another. You should have used Xandros version of eee...

  • You turned yours on first... This isn't a fair test...

  • Surprisingly little difference really. I thought the 901 would whoop the 900. But it didn't..

  • Faster.

    SSD

  • How much was your Asus EEE pc 901?

  • ok don't worry about the comments on the buttons. It is obvious that you only had one hand available, I wonder why ppl point that out. Uhm... Anyway, can you polease tell me the weight of the 901 (batery included),please? Do you think that its 6-cells battery actually lasts longer than a 4-cells one? BYE

  • it's 1100 gramms and you can easily get some 7 hours of battery time on the Eee PC 901

  • EeePC 901 faster!

  • There was at least a 3 second delay when you turned the 901 on.

That's not how you test them both.

Next time: click on both buttons -at the same time- and THEN compare.

    Good luck.

  • oh come on... please read the comments!

  • yeah, seriously who does a comparison by turning them on at different times?

    epic fail.

  • you are not getting it, right?

ever tried to press to power buttons at one time while you are holding the cam in the other hand during a pressconference?

Do you really think i dunno how to do a boot time comparison or can't you just calculate these 2 seconds of this 901 bootime?

Seriously i have to do an annotation now cause the average youtube user has some problems to think twice before posting a comment! That's what i would call an epic fail!

  • i agree^^

  • i agree too =)

    thank you for this video

  • my doubt is between the 1000HD, the 904HD and the 900 16GB [the 900A], could you help me out? thinking about best price-quality relation...

  • the eeepc 901 took longer to get started because of the intel atom processor? i'm not good at theese technolgy stuff, and i was searching about the difference between the celeron and the atom processors since i'm choosing an eeepc model to buy... i wanted to find out the best price-quality in the eeepcs, and need to find out the great difference between celerom and atom... so.. if you could just to give me a hand =D

  • Too bad the design of the older versions (900 and stuff) are MUCH nicer. I want the newer versions like 901, 100H to be in the 900 design. Please Asus!! Please!

  • that's what you are getting with the Eee PC 900A

  • I was didapointed in the run and start time with Xp so I installed windows 2000 and it was MUCH faster the the XP, For what I use it for (surfing,e-mail etc) it works fine for me. All the drivers worked fine. Try it, you will see a big diff !!

  • Well I still love you for doing the comparison. Gonna have to get me one of those little things. Perfect for traveling light.

  • you dont the stystems to geter ur clicing first the 900 and than the 901

  • Which one do you prefer your self? Build quality, design, performance, battery etc?

  • 901 no doubt about that! Battery life is just awesome.

  • Cool, I think I'll wait for the 901 then. The 900 only just came to Denmark, so it could take a while for the 901 to arrive though :(

  • To you people that complain about when he pushed the buttons: If you can't fucking substract two seconds you are an idiot..

  • Due to the fact that most users who are leaving comments just can't get what they can see on the video clip, i just closed the comments. I am getting kinda tired of deleting flame comments over here.

Again and for the last time:

this video was done during the official Eee PC 901 and Eee PC 1000H launch and pressconference. It's not any real benchmarking or competition, it's just a demonstration

So now i am gonna delete another 5 smartass comments like "push the power buttons at the same time"

  • You should have pushed the power buttons at the same time. :)

  • yeah, right ;)

  • 1st you turned on the 900 first, you should do it at the same time. 2nd the 901 seems to have more applications installed than the 900.

  • take it easy its obviously not meant to be

    official

  • whats up with the 3rd sticker on the black one. Next to the Windows XP and Intel sticker

  • its a Dolby Sticker

  • he should press power button simulteanously

  • no shit

  • Yeah, how about you push the power buttons at the same time next time.

  • Rofl, IMO the only reason it appeared to take longer was because you didn't press both of the power buttons at the same time. Press the power button on the 901 first and see which one's "faster"

  • guess what... they had even different windows versions ;)

believe me the 901 booted slower. Which might be also a matter of the installed applications. It was done during the ASUS pressconference and i've been the only one playing around with the systems while the pressconference is running in the background. So it was kinda hard to hold the cam and press both powerbuttons at the same time. Just a quick and dirty video.

  • doesn't the 901 use a conventional hard drive while the 900 uses a solid state drive? that would explain the bootup speed difference, almost no latency in a solid state drive.

  • no. both SSD. YOu're getting confused with the 1000H.

  • both use a SSD

  • Home and Pro are practically different OS's, one is going to take longer to start- if Home has more background processes, then yes, it will be slower to start up.

  • a biscuit for whoever can tell me what'll start first if one is turned on first. stupid man...

  • Try pushing the buttons at the same time

  • What's the difference between EEE PC 901 and 900?

  • 901 has a faster processor, and more ram

  • and better battery life

  • They both have 1gb of Ram mate.

  • is this really supposed to be a reply to me? they're different operating systems, i don't really care for the machine itself

  • ...and bettter graphics card, built-in 802.11n and bluetooth.

  • the 901 is better. if you noticed, he turned the 900 on first and he had the BIOS settings different. the 901 is faster, it has bluetooth, bigger SSD, and the power management features are a plus when you ore on the go. i cant wait until these are released for real in the states.

  • when does the 901 come out?

  • is teh eee pc 900 better then 901?

    witch one is better

  • Well, THE Eee PC 901 is sequentially next numerically, so theoretically, the 901 is newer/better.

  • yeah i know

  • He said the Eee PC 900 was running a Celeron M at 630Mhz so it sould be faster at 900Mhz.

I supose both machines are using the same type of SSD chips...

I'm trying to run away of windows, so think I'll be betting my 300Euros on an Acer Aspire One wich is 100% Solid state machine (no FAN inside)

  • Looks pretty close to me, considering you started the 900 sooner than the 901.

  • This makes me wonder.. someone do a benchmark of both processors please! What about battery life? I've only heard bad things about the Atom so far.

  • Sorry to say this but i would still go for the EEE 901 (friggin' price!)...firstly the processor is not that bad (it is bad) compared to the battery life you get and less heat produced in exchange for....everything else. However looking at this, I would definitely go for the Acer Aspire One Linux (when they release one with 20GB SSD and 2GB RAM)..it looks good and priced at £200 that's £140 lower than the EEE 900, with almost the same stuff.

  • whoopee!i bought the 900!!

  • hell yah! me 2!

    total value: $732

  • the new logo of eee pc 901 is ugly!! please put the ASUS logo back, otherwise its definitely a deal breaker!!

  • I like these new eee pcs. I have the older 701 eee pc which I love but the low screen resolution can be annoying sometimes.

  • dude whats happening in the background xD ...sounds fun

  • the ASUS pressconference was going on in the background ;)

  • I think the 901 would be faster, because your 900 was a clean self install where as your 901 it's preinstalled? Also the 901 has more apps? and comes with blotware

  • yeah your right, plus he is running linux and usually the Linux kernel allocates a little less space for the cache memory than the xp does....

  • i am not running Linux on my 900... Its a full Windows XP Pro installation with an easy mode frontend that is booting up after the start of the ordinary XP desktop.

Of course its just an early impression!

  • wow. This vid is what I looking for. Thanks.

  • i heard that the inte atom processor is slower than the current celrom @ 900mhz its that true

  • wait until you see the other Intel Atom Netbooks.... I did many boottime videos and they are all quite slow!

  • I hope it is not true....but the Acer Aspire One seems quite fast on booting Linux

  • Lol, linux.

    Windows for the win

  • Looked pretty much same.. I guess next time start them together ;)
