  • I have an 02 Grand Am with a 3400 and I can beat civics. There are a few "Ricers" that I cant beat like an rsx and some others. But either way I like my Grand Am alot... Ive had it for a year now an no problems out of it at 120k... needless to say I like it alot better than any honda

The transmissions are notorious for breaking down, i knew ppl with 5 different makes and all had transmission problems. Ppl buy them because they do look nice, well some of them, but no reliability. Honda all the way!!!!! If you dont like the truth sit in your lazy boy with your mouth shut. Suck my balls

  • you do realize that the 3.8 in the grand prix was on the top 10 engines of the millenium right. and will out run any honda. just ask my friend with the 00 accord v6 because i destroy him every time. imports have no torque what so ever

  • so your 3.8 Grand Prix will outrun an NSX, or an Acura TL, or hell, an S2000?  Don't think so. And what about on a track? Don't think so. And Accord V6's aren't much for racing. I admit, they could be faster. But hell, its a family car and its only a 2.7l V6. I wouldn't expect much from it. And what top 10 list did this come from? Pontiac IMO isn't much of a performance brand like it used to be but they do have their fire. I wouldn't count the 3.8 as one of em though...

    You might want to correct that statement about imports having no torque. I have a stock 2.5L F/I engine that makes 265hp/244tq to the crank. With a tune I'll be at around 290hp/305tq~ to the wheels (30% drivetrain loss). If thats not a lot of torque, then I don't know what is. It's enough to beat most of the cars on the road, including mustangs and GTPs.

  • Sorry to break the news to you but my wife got a 99' Grand Am 6 years ago in high school. We have put 130,000 miles on it and it has never seen a shop. It has never failed to start or left us stranded. It has enough pull to get on the interstate and get through traffic.

    P.S. I have driven hondas since I was 16 and the Grand Am is right there with the hondas on reliability.

  • What the fuck are you talking about. Cold air intake with good quality hi-flow filter will give it more power, performance exhaust system with headers will give it more hp, better spark plugs, camshaft and pulley, fuel pump,(the list goes on) will cost around 2 grand.

  • ok man let me tell you the skinny. hondas are fuel efficient cars, not race cars. i like to call them point a to point b cars and that pretty much sums it up. the only hondas that can break out of the 15's in the quarter mile are hondas that have thousands of dollars of mods in them and crx's because they are light but yet they still need thousands of dollars of mods. so let me rephrase myself "point a to point b cars" thanks and come again.

  • VTEC Doesn't "kick in". It's instantaneous. Two camprofiles, one for economy one for performance.. At a certain ammount of applied throttle the cam adjusts to high performance.

    He probably just hit his peak torque at 8000RPM. lol.

    your explanation is the worst ive ever heard about a vtec motor because its pretty much ALL WRONG!!!! peak torque is closer to where vtec KICKS IN. around five grand. it doesnt depend on how much throttle is applied, it depends on how fast youre going and how high youre running your rpms
