Hi, I'm having trouble replacing home button on my iPod Touch 1G because it got stuck. Any idea how to replace it? I know the components are different from iPhone

I tried this out yesterday. Not every required screw is explained and shown in the video, but it was still VERY helpful. It only took me about 30 minutes to disassemble the iPhone. After checking the putatively defect home button (it was just jammed behind the display) I needed over 2 hours to put the logic board back in place! I lost my temper more than once :-)

Everything's fine now, the "old" home button is working again. Thank's to iFixit!

There is no need to take out all 6 screws on the side. Just loose them a bit, they can still sit inside. Much easier!

You could use this method to mod your white iPhone with a black button or vice versa.

Or you could just make an appointment with apple and tell them your home button's not working and they will give you a new phone, since they have the best customer service in the world.

@Am3rIca16 Common misnomer, I've had I phone 4 for 7-8 months I went to apple 2 weeks ago and complained about the home button and they simply gave me a new phone.I have no insurance. All I am saying is go to apple and talk to them before you start taking all your stuff apart.

The best thing to do, when doing this type of repair is take a picture of the device and print it off, then place the screws on top of the print out where you took them from, do this with multiple prints if it all looks different as you go through the repair this way you'll never put the wrong screw in the wrong place :)

But would this resolve an iPhone 4 home button that doesn't work every time I push it? A lot of the time I just press the home button once and it brings up my multitasking bar. It's very annoying....

But, unfortunately, my iPhone home button still isn't working properly but a ton of people were saying this trick worked so i'm definitely remembering it! I guess mine is just a hardware issue. :(
