I'm one of those weird Americans that actually knows something about Canada and is really interested in it, but the same thing happens to me a lot when I try to access video from the CBC, CTV, etc. It's kind of strange because Canadians have a legitimate gripe that most Americans don't know or care anything about Canada, so it seems like Canadian media would encourage Americans to watch.

It's not illegal. And the block isn't on your side, it's on the site's. Certain sites have licenses to show certain content in certain countries but not in others, therefor they don't let people from other countries access their site. Bypassing the restriction through a proxy or vpn host isn't illegal since the licensing restriction applies to the website and not its visitors.

They only have one download button.

Some programs flag up as viruses, just because of how they work, it also depends on which anti-virus you have, some are more sensative than others.

The port it tries to connect through, also will need to be opened on some routers, whereas others have all their ports opens by default.

It works on the ABC american site however not on NBC. So it's very good and it gives you another IP address everytime you use it. Awesome. Now I need a program like that to let me pretend to be in the UK so I can watch BBC-iplayer. Thanks for the linky!!!!! ^____^

I've had similar problems in the US too. A torrent site (.com) I used to use decided to close itself to American users.

I've also come across European sites that block off content to American IPs.
