You made ART and HISTORY with this movie. Stick to your guns yeah! You made a gem and something you can be proud of for the rest of your life. Thank you for your contribution for Vietnamese all over the world
I thought the casting was perfect - spot on. Im so glad there were no chinese actresses, it felt so authentic and real, I never wanted to stop watching it. What a wonderful movie, I will cherish it forever
To be honest, if he chose Bai Ling or any popular actor/actress, the movie would be much popular and brought more more its attention. Now, look, objectively, it fell into the dark. I love the movie not only for it is Viet film but also it reflects the real story about the life of Vietnamese after the war.
Another thing, helping Asian is like giving to God for forgiven of your heart and dignity , Honors and humble and respect,New Asian American should learn what we have went through to give you the freedom. And learn to respect and Honor from the past. That we shead our blood and soul to give you life "Not To be in Struggle in Communist world".
To me Ham Tran should make this story in English so everyone should heard How our peoples have struggle to come of land and hope for freedom .Not like some of cuban refugee they been dragging for 25 years so long here in Miami and how suffering with 80 miles from Cuba ,they are more than us .But we have struggle more than 10k miles away from home.I think we should be sick of the memory ,but to remember what we have been through and proud for the future and teach and remember in our heart ,
Disappointed! Poorly directed.. The movie can only be understood by those who knew somewhat about the story. It doesn't bring the message to the new audience at all. It can be a souvenir to those who directly and/or indirectly affected but the movie itself doesn't have any meaning as a whole, no story line, no point whatsoever. The strategical illustration was no where near accomplishment, the movie was incoherent, actors were just ok. One word - terrible!
I'm a first generation vietnamese-american and i was able to feel a sense of heritage and what my parents and elders went through to leave communist vietnam.
I'm really surprised you did not see the message of the human will to survive under the most emotional/ physical circumstances.
There is so much that is designed in the story to speak to the first generation of vietnamese-americans who have no idea what their parents went through so that they could have a decent life in america. the second half of the movie shows the transition as the family moves from what they are accustomed to, and into adapting to the american way of life.
How many parents in today's society spend real quality time...forget that...how many parents today spend time with their children at all?So the children tend to think that their parents do not care about them or that the parents do not understand what the kids are going through and vice versa. There is so much more i would say, but i dont know if you'll ever check this reply.
oh im sorry , didnt know u were talking to stanleyle
I assume that stanleyle wasnt born in VN and that is why he is so americanized. Young American-asian or canadian-asian would never understand the story.
huynhb, i totally understand how you're feeling and what you're trying to say but i dont think stanleyle even bother to try to understand.
If stanleyle was so Westernised, then why would he be interested in viet films. Take a look at his channel. He understands. It's just he disagrees with the story and that's his way of expressing it. Because he is a dumbass vc.
aw, it's a shame this movie hasn't been publicized as much as it should be! i just watched it today; the colors and scenary is beauuuutiful. the entire theater nearly drowned from all the tears everyone cried!!

stanleyle: "The strategical illustration was no where near accomplishment".
Wtf? How long did it take you to Google that expression in English? Are you trying to say, "The propaganda failed"?
You must have put the whole paragraph through a Viet-English dictionary. LOL!
