The Japanese have them beat I'm afraid.. who can beat the boys of Final Fantasy or the boys of Resident Evil (seen the new Chris Redfield for RE5? OUCH WOW)!!
Manly characters like Basch are very rare in JRPGs. Usually, they are 17-year-old whiny boys like Tidus (FFX) and Squall (FFVIII). Also, the Japanese have yet to make a "Basch-like-character" the main protagonist. Did you know that Basch was originally meant as the main character in FFXII? However, after considering what the majority of Japanese like, Matsuno (the original director) was forced to "downgrade" Basch's involvement in the story and Vaan was promoted as the main character instead >_>
Ah yes Tidus- I quite agree. But the Japanese developers have made superb males- look at the Resident Evil series, we have Leon Kennedy, Christopher Redfield, Jack Krausser, and Kevin Ryman.. let us not forget the boys of Castlevannia either. Yes I did read that poor Basch was going to be the protagonist but that the gaming public preferred little boys... Ah Romans- you blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things!
Wow, I would've never thought a Final Fantasy fan would actually like the manly men of the series (umm, not that I can think of many excluding Basch, but they're out there...). Leon is probably the twinkiest protagonist in RE, yet he's miles more masculine than most FF protagonists. I think that Square Enix should get the hint that if we wanted to play as a female, we would, not as some barely-pubescent kid. Oh wait, FFXIII...
That's funny, 'cause it still seems as though Basch is the main character, least to me. 'Cause Vaan doesn't really do anything... his past and Penelo's holds the least significance to the story.
Stop saying that Vaan didn`t do anything; the cool fact of Final Fantasy XII is that it focuses on everyone story at same point, so a lot of they looks like the main characters; Ashe looks like the main in some parts,as same as Balthier or Basch.
But Vaan is a hopefull boy that make everyone join the other, he makes the group.
I bought the CD from the online retail store: 'amazon' The CD was actually the demo-recordings that they released of the musical. The complete Soundtrack for the Musical however, will be released later this year; it will feature a different cast.
