  • THIS is where FUNK started..... You dont hear me though..... Right here in OAKLAND CALIFORNIA ..... DJ Sly Stone at KSOL 145 super soul. Who opened WOODSTOCK??????? You dont hear me though........ SLY STONE....... Oh lets not forget the WHA WHA PEDDLE.........or THE PLUCK MASTER LARRY GRAHAM or should that be LARRY GRAM????

  • @BTSLIDER Sorry to bust your bubble but funk had already started on Brewster Ave, in Cincinnati. What was on Brewster Ave. King Records. Who was there? Bootsy, Catfish, Maceo, and James Brown. I'm not taking nothing away from Sly but get it right. Hell, James didn't get funky until Boot got there.

    Peace and funkiness to all.

  • @TheBoneRanger1968

With all respect, youngster, a history lesson is in order.

Bootsy et. al. followed in the slappin' footsteps of one Larry Graham... The same Larry Graham that's on this track and all of the Sly and the Family Stone tracks that preceded it.

But Sly & company weren't just funk.. they were soul, they were rock, they were psychedelic and they were groundbreakers. Sly pushed more than the musical envelope, mixing genres, genders, colors and styles.

  • @none2smug

Sorry my Brother, Boot was doing his thing way way back. Right on Brewster Ave. as part of the King Records house band. I know who Sly was. I started covering their stuff in the early late 60's. My band was performing on the same shows with Bootsy's first band in 1969. You can't match with me.

Bottom line, Cincy was as funky as any city. Hell James didn't get funky until he let Bootsy and Catfish get loose. You do remember Maceo, don't you?

  • WHAT A GREAT CLASSIC!!!!!!
