  • Agree with the speed. More explanation of the exact changes, slower clicking, so we don't have to constantly pause/rewind. Act as if the viewer has never done this before, and don't make assumptions. Explain the steps more thoroughly. All in all a good direction and accurate tutorial, but you just need some tips on how the pace of good tutorials run. Thanks, and look forward to other posts.

  • I can see you know what you're doing. But you can't teach: It's much too fast, sorry. Seems as if you made this only for yourself.

  • Very helpful. Looking forward to giving it a try!

  • You were super fast. Cant follow steps even after reversing the video. I quit.

  • im lost within a minute and the mouse clicking is annoying

  • One minute in and i'm already lost. I'm using CS4 and none of the first step is the same :/

  • The Pez mouse is just fine. We know when your clicking.

    Great Tutorial.

I can see I have A LOT to learn.

  • Without being HDR, I am impressed. I've got $2,000 worth of camera that can bracket 9 shots at a .3 stop interval, specialized HDR software... and I would be proud to have produced that image. Absolute kudos. And I agree with everyone about your mouse. Haha.

  • Ball operated mouse from 1850's.

  • Ohh lord!! What.. Your mouse has bucket teeth? Fix it! I almost stopped the video because if it... I actually fast forwarded to the end. ANNOYING!

    Other than that, nice video.

  • The people who 'dislike' this can't do it...

  • not hdr

  • to get to hdr .. go to file, automate, merge to hdr pro. had to look it up

  • that mouse....

  • Mouse from he'll!

  • Ahhhhhh... That fuckin mouse.

  • THIS IS NOT HDR! It is 8 bit tone mapping. HDR is created from RAW, 32 bit images.

  • I like it but too fast...hope you gonna make it slower..thank you !!

  • رائع جداًََ : استفدت كثيراً ^^

  • Nice vid, you certainly brought the colors and textures out. Please throw that mouse out or remove the microphone from within it. I wanted to mute this entire thing!!!

  • hear that noise at 8:06 a crazy horse?

  • @Dunkelfleisch lol that was someone sneezing pretty bad, That's the highlight of the video!

BTW you rock dude, I wish you were my psd teacher @ my school, great tutorial!!

  • you should convert to Lab colors before adjusting the white-balance

so that your color histogram doesn't get messed up.

You can see that is suffers a little if you compare 1:54 and 2:52.

    Very nice video thanks

  • Very informative . Thanks.

  • how many different ways can you make a HDR photo in Photoshop? is this the only way?.. im asking you this instead of watching other videos to find out for myself

  • great work

  • Great tutorial, thanks.

  • Cool dude... thanks...

  • to fast.

  • HDR -- The best way to shoot high-quality HDR photography and video with DSLR cameras is the 3D-BS MINI (beam-splitter) Rig. To find out more visit our site - 3D Film Factory (dot) com

  • Excellent tutorial. Loved it and it made some of my old photos from Mexico look 100% better. Thanks again!

  • To those complaining about the clicks - stfu and watch another videos. Thanks

  • Not HDR and the worst clicking noise in the world. Incredibly frustrating because I actually want to hear what you're saying but would rather not listen to the clicking noise 1000 times over.

  • REALLY FUNNY COUGH OR SNEEZE AT 8:05

  • Good job! thanks.

    =)

  • Everyone that has nothing constructive to say should just not say anything at all. Technically its not HDR but it is an informative tutorial on editing pics in photoshop. I like it and its people like you that help people like me learn about something very powerful and complex. Good job pal and thanks for taking the time to make this for FREE!!!!

  • Not HDR!!! Boooooo!

  • That mouse click could not be more annoying!

  • Not HDR

  • Hello all, I did say in the description it was an "HDR style" tutorial. I do apologize if it seems misleading to some. Sorry about the mouse clicking I don't think I even realized the sound while doing this. HUGE thank you to all of you for the kind support. I never imagined this tutorial would be this popular! It's nice to know my work is appreciated.

  • No worries about the mouse clicks. A lot of good info and valuable techniques. Although like many I was looking for a tutorial on built-in HDR functionality, I learned a lot I wasn't expecting to learn, e.g., establishing white/black point, layer and blend mode combinations, etc. An unexpected gift if you will. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

  • To learn how to achieve true HDR photographs with your own camera, please search out Pro Photo Results / HDR on YouTube

  • it's not HDR but the way it looks is the same.

  • just too fast for me..

  • World's clickiest mouse.

  • i would try to follow you but you go way to fast to understand your workflow

  • REALLY nice, but .... some steps are soooo fst for beginners ! and ... how do you desaturate this at one of the last steps ?

and where did you get the initial layer from just at the end (i never saw you save that one !)

    thanks

    g

  • sound of this mouse is terrible !

  • Good tutorial. It Gave a nice effect to the image. The mouse clicking was extremely annoying though.

  • never mind :)

  • How did you saturate it?

  • wtf? this is not hdr, lol

  • Ironically, you said "I'm going to go ahead" so many times that you were technically stalling.

  • way to change the contrast of a picture in 9 minutes and 13 seconds.

  • very informative, thank you.

  • Shut the annoying mouseclick sounds off next time.

  • Don't listen to those assholes about your mouse. Good tutorial.

  • You certainly are skilled, but IMO you have really oversaturated the colors of the image and made the overal image a bit too dark, other than that I agree with your choices and modifications.

  • Even though it's not the kind of HDR I expected, it was a helpful PS tutorial nontheless

  • good tutorial tbh

  • this is awfully complicated. Just open a single RAW in photomatix pro and you are on your way.

  • LOL at 8:06

    Bless you.. , Gesundheit..

  • klick...klick...klick...btw: good tutorial ^^

  • hey i have a problem doin in 1:21 .. when i clicked the "sample in image to set the black point" a window doesn't appear, how do i fix this?

  • This is what I would call HDR. Because that's what has been done here; the dynamic range of the image has been enhanced (although the tutorial itself is terrible the result is excellent). There's a world of difference between this and the automated "art" that everyone is calling "HDR".

  • Comment removed

  • That was confusing as fuck.

  • omg that clicking is making me wanna destroy my monitor...

  • thank you i like it

  • Geht das auch einfach, indem ich mit Gimp die Fotos als Ebenen übereinander lege und das Tone Mapping weglasse?

  • less artificial than a "pure" HDR image... so, very nice work.

  • nice but it's not HDR. The mouse click was annoying

  • Great tutorial thanks for sharing your knowledge, learned a couple new tricks.

  • too much editing. really killed the picture. you should've stopped halfway. good vid anyways

  • Fucking tuff and complex

try a easy tut my friends

  • can you plz upload the before and after in HD so we can see the real affect :/ thank you

  • i liked it but its not HDR

  • Before posting a tutorial on HDR you should learn what HDR actually is. This has NOTHING to do with HDR!

  • Great but I`m so confused noe! XD Click, click, click (ATCHOOOO) click...

  • @kitty3309 'now'

  • iritating mouse

  • your mouse is soooooooooo annoying! nice finished photo though

  • Thats a very clickety mouse my good friend!

  • Hey, you made some nice effects there, but sorry to say, this is not HDR :-(

But keep up the good work :-)

  • settle down everyone! he's just trying to help, and all of you are hating. meanies!!

  • Rubbish. Too complicated by far. Anyone looking for this type of tutorial is a 'beginner' nothing was clear, the boxes brought up were a blur, as was the final image. Not helpful at all.

  • Rubbish. Too complicated by far. Anyone looking for this type of tutorial is a 'beginner' nothing was clear, the boxes brought up were a blur, as was the final image. Not helpful at all.

  • what i want to know is, will this very method work for every image or just this one?

  • mouse click sound is to anoying, I've stopped watching after 2 min. OMG, do something with that.

  • Too fast man...

  • the mouse click

isn`t real sound it`s the screen recorder sound

  • You need to be more clear. "you just merge...and dadada cotrol baboob deedoo the layer" Make the steps like you are not assuming the listener can decipher all the lingo. I am fairly well versed in PS and still had trouble. Yes to you smart alecs I have a pause button.

  • Buy a new mouse

  • Loud sneeze @ 8:05

  • NOT hdr

  • he duplicates the image, photoshop manual exposes it and than combines it.. actually it is the same as hdr, but lets call it a fake hdr :)

  • very well, fake HDR it is

  • Paying attention to camera exposure would have prevented all this. Truly an excellent vid, need to watch it a few more times.

  • Is your mic on your mouse? CLICK, CLICK CLICKETY CLICK

  • how well does HDR effect work on shots with people? i have been asked to photograph my friends band and he wants HDR type images...

  • @iceman9493 Absolutely you can. Rather than taking three in camera exposures, adjust the exposure in PS of an image. save the original then save one +2 values and 1 -2 . Then use those three files in photomatix. This eliminates movement people make between shots. Anal douches like MRPixelgrowler will have a conniption fit and whine "That's not real HDR!" Whaaa! Fuck 'em. I have accomplished great results doing this. If you get that, who cares how. He just want to yap how much he knows.

  • thanks! i'll be sure to try it out!

  • @pedalman

The title clearly states "Photoshop HDR Tutorial". I still stand by my initial comment. It's NOT true HDR, it's pseudo.. He's just playing with a single image and adjusting settings in that SINGLE image, and combining the layers. TRUE HDR starts with more than one image (EV value). He needs to use correct terms when doing tutorials. Misleading tutorial for those new to HDR. By the way, you could call it anything you want on Flickr, it's still misleading.

  • great job

  • Glad to see you're a real man and use a PC!

  • pc FTW!!

  • Maybe isn't really HDR but is great tutorial to start with HDR.

  • I think it's easier to just make a real hdr image.

  • well this ain't actually HDR

  • He didnt say it was hdr, but you would probably call the end image HDR if you saw it without this tutorial.

  • next time increase the volume

  • buy a good mouse please !!!!

  • @abdiasnahum lol it's a program to let you know that he click the mouse

  • @abdiasnahum its not the mouse that makes the sound , its the program

  • @abdiasnahum its not his mouse its the software he used to capture the screen,

  • @abdiasnahum ROFLOL get familiar with recording programs, and know that it isn't his mouse clicking sound but the recording program added it...

  • @abdiasnahum The clicking coms from the program camtasia studio not from his mouse!

  • @abdiasnahum

lol, its the capturing software that makes this sound, so you as viewer know when he clicks

  • @abdiasnahum its only the recording program wich adds that oldscool noise xD

  • @abdiasnahum Is the recordingsoftware that makes that sound retard.

  • @abdiasnahum i think that sound is from camtasia..

  • Not HDR my friend... Sorry.

  • What would you have called this image had you seen it on Flikr ?

I bet your first thought would have been " HDR".

  • @MrPixelgrower Yea, thats just him doing useless effects to a photo.

  • @MrPixelgrower What a jerk response. He said it was an "HDR style" not HDR.

  • @MrPixelgrower "A normal workflow of livening up a flat image into an HDR style masterpiece"

    read the caption fuck head

  • @lancerboyle5 "Photoshop HDR tutorial" Read the title warior, MrPixelgrower was right, the title is misleading but the end result is prety cool.

  • @MrPixelgrower It isn't HDR by process.. but it gets the same effect

  • not really HDR but a good tutorial in making your image more punchy

  • Great turtorial! I've learned a lot! Thanks!!

  • hi, i tried this and it is easy to understand but ehen i try to level out the colors it gets too dark with the black and then too bright with the white. don't know what i did wrong. please help

  • great tutorial, thank you!

  • CLICK to you too ;-)

  • See this thing here, click on it quickly before i move on to the next thing with absolutely NO explination of how its done, or anything. *Clickity Click Click Click. Ok now Click on that thing there, Saturate it, *Click Click Clickity Click Click Click Click. Ok now see its done. Did you like my tutorial. RESPONCE-----> NO

  • he's not really teaching, hes just talking to himself.

  • puke @ 8:06

  • interesting, but not really hdr. hdr is a tone compression but here we see a way to make a particular image look more colorful and contrasty

    with some exaggerated elements.

It also is odd to sharpen in this mode and with such settings..

I wonder what this very image could look like in real hdr or even quasi-hdr made from raw exposure shifts?

  • Fantastic.

  • Clicking MADNESS @ 8:05! lol

  • See that window..? Now take your mouse and throw it out of it :P

  • good god, this mouse drive me crazy!

  • cannont agree more .

  • I also think you need a new mouse. Or a less noisy one for that matter. :)

  • It sounds like he has the mouseclick sound on his screencapture program on...

  • This has nothing to do HDR .

The Idear of HDR is Basicly to get a higher Range of Colors In one Picture, this is why creating a HDR from one Raw file is wrong, too. Yo have to take atleast 3 Photos with e.G. -1 0 +1 Light Settings so that you gaine that color range in reality otherwise it wont have anything to do with real HDR.

  • I think this is meant for after the HDR conversion is done

  • Yes ok then atleast it would make sense.

But then you should mention that you have to mention that the 32Bit HDR has to be brought down to 8Bit per Chanel ;)

  • Right. The only thing you got wrong is that you won't get the color range that fits reality. You will never get to that range. But it's much better in HDR photos, you're right.

  • I know anyway you could get something like 12Bits per Chanel if i would use a sRGB Screen or i could print in a cmyk equal to 16Bits if you would rely see the difference ? I don't know i guess you would see in comparison but you won't recognize by only seeing the print.

  • cool tutorial!

but a highly destructive workflow =)

well, you know exactly what you're doing.

    thanks!

  • cool stuff but you seriously need to lose that click sound everytime you make a click ,damn that is torturous man

  • the guy you hear in the background at 8:05 couldnt stop laughin

    tutorial was pretty good!!

  • lol yeh, sneeeze!

  • I dont think this was that great of a tutorial - you click too fast and dont tell what you are clicking on.

  • I think is a tutorial for someone who really understands photoshop without instructions hehe

  • This looks pretty good but there are easier ways. Use a single RAW file in Photomatix (if you don't have multiples, of course), or use Lightroom and abuse the Shadow, Fill Light, and Recovery sliders -- same effect in a fraction of the time. Plus, it's cheaper than Photoshop.

Also, for everyone complaining that this isn't HDR -- neither is what you get when you tonemap your photo. The HDR image is useless without software to make it display. This accomplishes the same goal, so it's the same.

  • This isnt HDR, this is just a tonemapped look.

  • great tutorial, thanks!

  • If you have 3 ore 5 diffrent photos with diffrent exposure, You can make an REAL HDR pictute with Photomatrix hlaf this time, this isn´t a real HDR picture it´s just a fake way to get to the goal.

To make a real HDR picture u have to use atleast 2 pictures

  • but it basically makes use of the "principles" of HDR images

so, basically, it is an HDR photo made from a Raw photo or a single photo

the only thing that sucks with one photo/one raw image is the noise.

    cheers

  • bless you. 8:05

  • Ha, i knew what you were refering to but i just had to go back and listen anyway! Funny!

  • I'm sure this will be useful so some of you out there but I have no flippin idea what is going on. Too fast mate, and you don't explain how or why you're doing some of the things.

  • shut the eff up. I like the clicking noise. Keep it up!

  • great except for the clicking... hard to watch!!! try a quieter mouse :)

  • cool bro..

But I prefer Photomatix and three or five different pics..!

  • great tutorial. thanks!

  • how bout a new mouse!

  • thanks! but ur damn click mouse is annoying haha

  • Well this is awsome. But at 7:13 you say saturate and it turns your pic grey. How did you do this?

  • is desaturate

    PC.- ctrl+shift+ u

    Mac.- cmd + shift + u

    or in menu bar.- image/adjustments/desaturate

  • wow thanks man! i already try your tutorial...and its so easy! I made it!

  • en español? xdd

  • good stuff
