Deleting Lines and Shading on a Manga Scan

i have a manga scan... the background is black and the lines are only on part of the picture. i wasn't to delelete the lines without completely ruining the picture... which i have done multiple times -__-'

please help me?

Whenever I use the eraser tool, what I'm erasing becomes transparent.

yeah, thats the same thing as it being white anyway. after all, you're just going to color it over so it won't be transparent.
