I can't tell it's not a lead guitar, simply a different lead guitar, it sounds so unique and that's why I love when people plays solos with, just like you on your demo.
Nels Cline is the best example using Jazzmaster as lead guitar and I think it's not a fate if Nels is one of the last interesting lead guitarist.
He has something special in his feeling and sound, the Jazzmaster is probably a part of this personality.
@jackofwack Not because of the neck, but more so with the electronics(pickups) and the bridge and whammy bar setup. You get a flat sound when the strings are attacked. Thats just the guitars nature. The pickups are more for jazz progressions.....You can play lead, but compared to todays standards you won't get much out of it....Thanks for the comment
Thanks for the reply, how about the modern version like the classic players and blacktops? Same problem? reviews for the blacktop say it's perfect for string bends. Wasn't the jazzmaster seldomly played for jazz but more for surf rock and altenate rock?
Hells yeah, awesome vid, would love to see more videos of this type from you. I also have a question; why do you have the controls for the neck with the neck/bridge-switch AND a 3-way toggle-switch?
@dornerd Thanks...I guess if you wanted to set a certain tone for rhythm and be able to go from that to a certain tone for lead you can just move that switch into the off postion. Which would then activate the 3 pos. toggle to what ever postion you have it set for.......kinda cool
Great demo and what a beautiful specimen!

@jackofwack I got a CP Jazzmaster (no vids yet, sorry)
I can say that it feels a bit different because of the bridge and because of the different radius on the neck
And it certainly just sounds better for leads. Also, the higher output PUs will give you a "better" lead sond if that's what you're looking for
But what is considered the creamy lead tone or woman tone, you will certainly not find it on a Jazzmaster, that's Gibson stuff ;-)
