  • Love It. Thanks For This Rare Goodie. ^^

  • and CD III,

this song was so conscious and Irie, for me, things and time so ruff and these songs, this track was rallying call for the I to stay up, stay strong, be righteous and true

I remember alot of Foundation grassroots Hip Hop Cats resenting very much when the music became fake as years came along, so it goes

    Peace - JD

  • Big UP Hit-Man Howie T

I was in Omaha, of all places, during the Summer of 1983 when I heard CD III - Get Tough, off the hook.

There was a radio station that was playing all kinds of New York Music way before it hit Cali

Same time Attitude - We got the Juice, Bottoms Up - Chi Lites, Electric Kingdom - Twilight 22

Summer of 1983 was the last Summer Disco Funk was strong, Steve Arrington - Weak at the knees, Electro funk was way strong and also early Hip Hop records

  • Man this was classic shit. It was 1983 to 84 when this shit dropped back in the great recession which was worse than the one now imo, back then we were also worrying about getting our ass nuked by the soviets and NY was full of muggers and gangs.

  • @socom6

    for real socom6

i thought i was the only one trippin at any day or time it could very well jump off on some nuclear war devastation with the USSR

and back then, getting mobbed up or jumped was far more a threat and daily reality, but there was no Guns jumping off which meant alot of folks could live to see another day

when i think of your post it reminds me everyone was broke - this was reality, i mean no nuthin. sony walkman, member's only jacket, some winos or vans playboyjeanswow

  • my favorite era the golden age of hip hop!!! CD3.

  • Thank you black! I've been arguing that point for the longest! Between 1982-1989 is when most of the pure Hip-Hop was produced!

  • Oh yea let me tellyou, this was the thug theme song in Baltimore in the mid 80s..but it also

had a very strong message to it..it did get little air time..Truly a classic!!!

    Baltimore stand up!!

  • 1bmoreparty! My name is DJ ISA. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD right on 33rd street.I'm in Chicago now. This was the shit in B-more! They use to play it on WEBB-AM and on WWIN-AM at night with the local dj's like Visious V, Kaz-T, Mello G Man, the We rock crew, Z3MC's, Charm City Crew, Power Force Crew and others in the afternoons!

  • I grew up in Baltimore also, I live in Las Vegas now. This was one of the major house party jams in the mid 80`s(85-87). I grew up in northeast B-more near Chinquapin Park and Reverdy Rd. My friend Day-Day used to rock this when he deejayed or made mix-tapes. The mean streets of B-more took his life in 2003 along with quite a few of other friends and relatives. WEBB-am 1360 with Chuck Maxx in the and WWIN-am 1400 was the only radio stations that played this music. V-103 did eventually.

  • whats up family, a bmore resident over here. this was the jam back in the day in good old charm city. i remember the z3-mc's and the we rock crew from back in the day. but what about kevin liles old group the numarx?

  • Yo Hard, what high school did you graduate from? I'm Mervo class of 1989! Winston Middle School class of 1985. I have both Numarx 12 in. and Z3 MC's on wax!

  • whats up isa, i'm douglass class of 1990. and i remember these good old days. this takes me back to listening to webb and v103 on the radio. oh yeah, i have that z3 mc's on wax as well.

  • You did NOT start your sentence with "Yo Hard!" Hahahahahaha...damn, I thought I was the only one that still said that, lol. Thanks man!

    Grand Gusto Domino

  • @IsaAmonRa I grew up near Baltimore too. If you want to hear a We Rock Crew jam, do a search for "We Rock Krew" on youtube (with a K, not a C), and you can hear their best jam. I would LOVE if I could find some old Charm City Crew raps. Enjoy!

  • I grew up in Baltimore also, I live in Las Vegas now. This was one of the major house party jams in the mid 80`s(85-87). I grew up in northeast B-more near Chinquapin Park and Reverdy rd. • AMAZING! I'm from the N O and it was the summer of 1985 when I last saw this video. This song was just like that song "WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT" by the Ultimate 3mc's.

  • That's funny cuz Howie Tee produced them both! "Ultimate-ultimate-"

  • Why does todays commercial rap suck so much S*H*I*T??

  • Cool video, greeeaatttzzz Mark Brown

  • Thanks Mark ;)!

  • OMG! This was the s**! Mostly only NY Rap heads were on this!! This joint here was played heavy at my house back in the day! Man, memories! Thanks Jeff!!!

  • Very rare Hip-Hop video and innovative for its time. No guns, hoes, bling bling....just straight-up NYC class!! On a blog, someone stated that when it came on BET's Video Soul in 83", instead of the artist's name, it was replaced by "rap video."

  • Yeah that is ;) no bling bling or bitch's hahaha

    thanks for your comment!

  • It's true. This video came on BET.I thought it was around 1985 but it could be 83".I'm from New Oleans and only a few and I mean only a few knew about this song. PURE CLASSIC!!

  • CD III was unknown to those outside of New York and since BET was DC company and it was 1983, I think that they just could'nt get much research on the artist. In 1983, BET usually only played rap videos by nationally known rap artists like Afrika Bambaataa, Whodini and Grand Master Flash. The only outlet on BET that played videos in 83" was Video Soul. Video Vibrations was a multi-hour video block that included more lesser known Hip-Hop artists and that did'nt come out until the fall of 1984

  • Yeah, you are right. Not too many people outside NY knew about this group.During that same time, there was a song called " REAGANOMICS".Do you know who made it?

  • I have a song called Ray-gun-omics by Project Future on 12 inch...it's a vocoder track.

I could send u the mp3 if ya like...

  • damn i'm from KCMO, so hip-hop was reaslly limited here , but luckly i had good hook up, and i heard this joint "get tough", and never new they sang reganomics, good looking, did they aslo sing "what people do for money " or do you know that, good looking for info. one

  • I was living in a small french city at that time when it came out, near an NATO military base wich american soldiers were bringing fresh hip hop, so I heard it on a small radio called "radio santé" and I never forget about this track, 25 years trying to dig it, so I found it yesterday, one of greatest day of my musical life, discovering the video is another great moment.

Hip Hop wasn't only about egotrip and party rhyme at that time ! Timeless..

    Thanks for sharing this...
