  • To be true to HPL, this film would assume: 1) A high degree of audience intellect; 2) period-specific to 1920's; 3) tolerance of racism and ethnocentrism; and, 4) NC-17 (or higher, i.e., X) rating. This film needs to be made in France; Americans are simply too stupid of an audience for such a project.

  • @flagascaro How's about you be a little more specific. What, in this novel is racist, and what would prevent such racism being left out? What in this story would require NC-17 or X rating? Finally, your gratuitous anti-American insult says more about you than about Lovecraft or his story or anything else.

  • @flagascaro I find your claim Ironic considering an American wrote those stories. Seriously what is racist about Lovecraft's writings?

I've read through most of his collection and he hardly ever hints at any social aspects other than Shadow over Innsmouth

  • They should go to Lion's Gate. Universal obviously doesn't know a masterpiece in the making when they see it.

  • The Outsider is very good

  • ask Bill Gates to fund the movie, maybe he's a Lovecraft fan?

  • Damn I want this to happen. :/

  • Make the movie in the 1920's time period.

  • We need to let the studio know that we will see this movie and support it. Let your voice be heard. I want to see this and I know alot of other people do to. Toro and Cameron working together 2 of my favorite directors. We must let the studio hear our voice!

  • Gullermo del Toro directing an H.P. Lovecraft, R-Rated, monster movie with James Cameron? TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

  • @Nature9355 It is, Universal dropped it after Scott Pilgrim bombed at the box office. Feels bad, man.

  • MAKE THE MOVE!!!!!!!!

  • he better make the shoggoth look good

  • Well, maybe now that he cant do Mountains of Madness, he can finally make Frankenstein, which is a project I was much more interested in

  • I mountain of madness when i was 14 to make sos-goth is written to be impossible to understand visually doubt anybody can pull this off

  • It's sad that Universal studios don't take the risk to make this movie, i was (and still...maybe a hope, please!!) excited for this movie, i like H.P. Lovecrafts books and i'm a Guillermo Del Toro fan...we need to do something to save this fuckin movie!!! Shit, i'm so pissed off...hope Cthulhu destroys Universal Studios!!!

  • UNIVERSAL : FUCK YOU AND GO TO HELL !

  • This movie has been cancelled! The man himself said so

    :(

  • I'm absolutely gutted that this film has been put on hold again...

  • I think Tom Cruise would be a good choice for the role of William Dyer, as much as people make fun of him, I think he's a good actor.

I can't wait for this film, besides Re-Animator, Lovecraft movies are actually pretty rare on my opinion. Sure there's tonnes of films inspired by hi, but direct adaptions aren't very common.

  • This is going to be awesome. And Del Toro is the best choice to make it!

  • I started reading Lovecraft at 13 and I instantly became a fan. I think this movie has the perfect director, and it's going to be amazing. Hopefully this will inspire more Lovecraft adaptations.

  • Doing Lovecraft before CGI effects was next to impossible - the technology took decades to catch up with his imagination.

  • I hope the movie turns out good, though I hope he would consider adapting The Shadow Out Of Time. That is my favorite Lovecraft story.

  • the perfect director for lovecraft's stories.the only one that can really manage to transfer the books atmosphere to the big screen.

  • Is Tom Cruise actually playing William Dyer? I think that this would be perfect! but I'm sure others disagree

  • @lordtufty

    Hehehe I would not disagree

I love the idea...btu many would disagree with us

I've always been a fan of Tom Cruise, and Guierllmo Del Toro is just sensational

  • I am encouraged that Del Toro is taking a turn at bringing Lovecraft's mythos to the screen. There have been many films loosely based on his work that were just terrible to watch. I think Del Toro will bring the skill, focus, perspective, and enthusiasm necessary to visualize Lovecraft's world effectively.

  • Del Toro IS the man for this job.

  • I am a huge Lovecraft fan and think there isnt a more suited director for this movie. Got high hopes. Ron Perlman is in it too which is awesome!

  • Del Toro has to be the best choice for a big budget Lovecraft film, his visual style is just perfect for it. Damn I haven't been this excited to see a movie since Terminator 2 as a kid.

  • @kutuluu too bad it's axed :(

it would've been a great horror flick but it was axed cus it got an R-rating.

del toro must've been pissed off

  • @pfl95 Actually Universal blocked the project because Del Toro refues to give it a pg-13 rating.

  • @retronovation7 does it really need to be R?

  • @MrLucasBorden well Del Toro insisted it be rated R...

  • @retronovation7 yea exactly.

  • @pfl95 Cowardly bastards. He should take it to a different studio, make it exactly how he intended to make it, watch it earn a bajillion dollars and then go "nyahh, nyahh, nyahh" to the heads at Universal...

  • @pfl95

come on somebody finance the movie so he can make it forgodsake : P

studios like universal can stuff that pg 13 where the sun dont shine

  • @kutuluu I totally agree. His style and vision will be perfect for something like this.

  • @kutuluu

excited as well but i have to say the studio is losing alot of points if they dont let guillermo direct this movie.

  • "At the mountains of madness" is an anti-film novella, adapting it is a crazy work, and it have to get done very well, he should start with "Herbert West: Reanimator", "The call of Cthulhu", "The shadow over Innsmouth", "The Dunwich horror", whatever of those have more film affinity, but everyone who reads Lovecraft's storys knows why film makers avoid them.

  • @xXviejas22Xx I have read and re-read Lovecraft, and I do not see why his work is avoided. It only needs a good director and a good budget. Will it be like reading the stories. No, it never is, but it would be good to see an actual talent put toward the purpose making Lovecraft movies. I can not understand how Call of Cthulhu has not been made in Hollywood. We have 2 good King Kongs, a great Cloverfield, and a fantastic LOTR. There is no reason good and talented directors should avoid them

  • @inlife9 He never write in dialogues, his storys are strictly in first person, just like testaments, if you want to make a movie based on his books you are practically in cero, you have a lot of work to do, that gives you the chance to make it your own way, but ¿who in the film world wants to work?, and obviously the racism, but that can be solved, you just avoid the despective expresions and no one note it. Cloverfield sucks, King Kong is the super beast, and don't forget the original Gojira.

  • Wow! Guillermo del Toro AND James Cameron running the show? At the VERY least, this film will be for horror what 'Avatar' was for sci-fi: even if you feel, deep down inside, like it sucks, it will still be awesome just for the technical achievement and overall experience of it.

  • Thank you powers that be for hearing my cries!!!! Ryleh! Ryleh! Cthulhu Ph'tagn!

  • holy shit he started reading lovecraft at 11? thats a pretty morbid little kid. im a fan of guiellermo del toro and i started reading lovecrafts work when i heard he was adapting At the mountains of madness. im really excited for the movie cause i think guiellermo is the perfect guy to direct it!

  • @93johnk couldn't have said it better! O_O

  • @93johnk I read "The Dunwich Horror" at twelve, and by sixteen, I had read virtually his whole catalog.

  • @93johnk bullshit man,,i dont think he read at all at that age.... but because he has to say something interesting for the interview he as well as anybody would come up with some shit like that.

  • @93johnk I started reading Lovecraft when I first started listening to Metallica as a kid...their song "Call of Ktulu" was one of my favorites and then at the library I saw Call of Cthulhu...the names were just too similar and I had to pick it up...fell in love with the stuff. I'd have been around 8 or 9 then. And yes, a big Websters Dictionary was often involved. I'd actually been a fan of Poe through my mom reading the poems so far back I can't remember being introduced to him.

  • @93johnk I think he actually says he was 7 years old! That's pretty young to be able to even read Lovecraft's kind of writing.

  • Comment removed

  • @93johnk So when did you read lovecraft for the first time?!

  • @93johnk I mean at what age?!

  • A Wonderful Talent Indeed

  • Yeap James Cameron know what kind of genious this guy is, to the point where James himself told to Guillermo, hey can I be the producer of your movie?

  • OK, being completely shallow for a moment: is Guillermo going bald? Is that a significant bald spot that he's kinda combed his hair over at the crown of his head?

  • I really hope they keep the design for Smaug. It sounds amazing

  • @kradobes I'd love to be deep inside this movie.

  • @robo042 Anything else Sir.? Our cheeseburgers have a special discount this month.

  • Man... I would love to be in this movie...

Can't wait for its release date!

  • @MdP2 What you mean by "to be in"? ...:)

  • @kradobes I mean that I'd love to be involved in it. As a matter of fact, I think that anyone who enjoys Science Fiction or Horror would like to be involved in the making of this film. We're talking about picking one of the most influential stories of one of the grandfathers of modern SciFi-Horror and having it directed by one of the few directors who are actually right for the job: Guillermo del Toro... - not to mention the fact that Jim Cameron is supposedly backing up this project...

  • @MdP2 Well, I can see my videos are inspiring my same goal as popcorn. That can´t be good... but is ok.

  • I'm really looking forward to ATMOM!
