Jerry was and is the man. Look at all he has created that is still affecting us today. The Furthur version is cool, but the line-up on this track triple trumps that.
nice to pick a song, that so much input,in 1971,,plant earth orac,,Grace Paul jerry Dave Crosby, they got paid in weed,,when some had they stop by to see Paul k,that was his baby,!! well done FURTHUE,,BOBBY & PHIL,,,,,,
this is so f#@king beautiful. I might just cry.....wait, yep shedding some tears for Jer, the mountains and all those friends and family that have moved on. Very cool to hear this old and awesome recording.
beautiful music, i enjoy the images as well. thats a very interesting shot of Garcia and Owsley in the airport, jerry looks a little rough.I miss him now
@Wolfgasm0414 That is a rather dumb statement, What happens when there is no video???? Then what?? Because if the alternate is your way shits fucked up... I personally don't need a video to listen to a song, sure its awesome when they have 1 (example the whole Doors 1966 Concert live footage) But i'd just as soon here the music then not hear it or see it at all... I'm guessing you are just being funny but that is the alternate thinking process.. Either way we love music :)
I love this song and I saw Further perform it this past Summer. Phil Lesch's son wrote some additional lyrics to it and it was absolutely the best song of the night. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for posting this. I have been trying to find the PERRO version, without success. Chase, you should catch Furthur if you have a chance. They have resurrected several songs from the early GD catalog, and they sound great. The story on this one is as you said, except you need to add in Phil's son, Brian, as one of the contributors to the lyrics and new arrangement. It has developed into a really fine tune. They have been using it instead of China Cat to go into I Know You Rider.
@MrcosmicC - Hi. Thanks for all the additional info on what's happening now with the song. I don't live in the US anymore, so i haven't seen Furthur or any of the other post-Jerry incarnations of the Dead. Do like some of what I've seen up here on youtube though! Especially enjoyed Joan Osborne's singing of Jerry's tunes, in 2003 & 2006....
I read how Bobby, Phil and Hunter resurrected this song for the Further shows....it's bits and pieces from each artist writing a little here and a little there...
@AvirtualSwitzerland - hi, yesss indeed they played it a few times. if you do a search for "Further Mountain Song" you'll find a couple of those versions (which may or may not stand up next to this gem from Kanter, Crosby, Slick & Garcia, lol)...
That was awesome...Never saw Jerry =(, but I've seen The Dead, The Other Ones, Phil and Bobby solo and Further many times..including this years Gathering of the Vibes...Which was so fun. Jerry left such an AMAZING legacy. Thanks for sharing this.
@YoungTubersUnited2 - glad you liked it... so you're the one i passed my baton to, lol? I saw the Grateful Dead many times thru the 80s up until about 1993... but haven't seen the Dead, Other Ones, Phil or Bobby live since then. Just love the music though.
Once it works its way into your heart there it remains.
I saw Furthur do this at their 09/17/10 Eugene performance...............it was unexpected and totally awesome..........Phil Lesch's son, Brian, added more lyrics to it and wow, what a treat.
hi jamesb- yeah, that's very cool, i heard about that. I think Phil has also played another of the PERRO songs once or twice-- "Cowboy Movie"... Have you heard that?
This is a real nice song that i have never heard! Thanks for your pick, Chris you are truly in the Zone! keep them coming...
