Probably already mentioned in the comments since this is a couple years old, but you totally should have reforged the sword and bow if yer avoiding magic spam...Excalibur and Bow of Hope extra damage to undead/evil enemies, which is pretty much everything in this place.

Aren't you able to hit the vampire boss with the bow, boomerang and harpoon (dunno why the harpoon wasn't effective in this video)?

I recall that the giant chicken boss with long legs was immune to melee weapons, but was hittable with ranged weapons.

I often played as the Girl with the whip as JB chose to do against the Doom Wall in this video. (My younger brother played as the Boy, and our younger sister preferred the Sprite; I was secure enough in my masculinity to play the Girl.) I like the whip, it may not be that powerful, but it's got decent range without the inconveniences of the Boomerang or Bow.

I´ve never thought of, you know, someone else having the whip except for the girl, the same thing with the sword for the boy. But for whatever reason I´ve yet to know someone who doesn´t do so too...

By the way, I play as both the boy and the girl since my younger brother plays the sprite but I never liked secondary characters to be the ones to beat a major boss except if they´re players too, so in this game I always take the boy for bosses.

Heheh that was nice. Playing this game with 2 other people is awesome. By the way if you ever want to lp secret of mana 2, be sure to check on the net for the patch that let you play with 3 players, because you can only play with 2 players in the sequel.

I just won Secret of Mana 2 tonight about 20 minutes ago. That game was hard! Well, bosses are easy if you know how to buff and debuff things to death and you have Carlie as your healer. The game had far too much grinding in it. Good to know about the patch for three players though but that game isn't as multi-player friendly as SoM. I'm probably going to replay Secret of Evermore for the first time in years next.

Vampire is annoying. I have melee'd him down before but he does alot of flying around. When he bounces around, you can do alot of hits on him. Why is he weak against Lumina? The game had some content cut out to fit the SNES. The Gold Isle I believe may have possibly came before this place originally.

That move Doom Face does happens when the eyes die. The damage is laughable though and you can still cast while it drags you around, just continue pounding the center eye. I've known about that move since my first run thru that game. I notice people in play thru's are exceedingly obsessed with killing the middle eye first. I've never tried it but it seems completely contrary to the design of the boss fight (effectively skipping phase 2 of the encounter).

What a goofy-looking (and cheap) vampire..the Empire seems to think that its strategy of "Keep sending boss monsters after the heroes instead of dealing with them personally" is going to work eventually, but I don't see it ~.~

You never actually fight other people on the game, just monsters, or the people you do fight turn into a monster to fight you (like Gestaur).

I'm pretty sure the center eye uses the weird move when the other two eyes die, I remember him using it basically time everytime I fought him. Basically the first wall in the game wants to crush you when the fight is half over and that wall starts using that move. It's quite annoying, unless you just finish him off quickly with magic of course.

Oh yeah and physical attacks can only hit the vampire boss when his cloak is completely open I believe.

You pretty much fight almost all monsters models at least twice in the game including the ones you mentioned. The only ones you don't fight twice are a few of the bosses later in the game. If you're curious, I have a youtube video that shows all the bosses in a two minute slideshow.
