And, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Attila's sui generis interpretation of Dead's profound despair, depression and hopelessness vision towards life and existence is simply chilling... as if you could almost feel satan itself touching your lifeless, hopeless corpse after commiting suicide. And, (yeah, it will get EVEN BETTER) Dead meant EVERY word he expressed while taking his OWN life in the process.

Mayhem is the darkest band of all time. They represent pure nihilism, misanthropy, darkness, hatred and total destruction. Dead's lyrics are incredibly sinister, anti-cosmic, anti-life. Euronymous' riffs are absolutely grim and Hellhammer's drumming (as if it was recorded inside a very apropriate cave) are as equally incredible and fitting.

Attila's voice is absolutely chilling. I hear people compare him to Dead all the time and this is what i have to say, Dead's voice was freaking wrathful! It was so dark and angry, it was the howl of an angry demon, however Attilas is just dark, chilling, like he's speaking softly with the voice of the devil. Transilvanian Hunger by Darkthrone came out that year. The only Burzum album that year was some dark ambient one, but the best Black Metal album ever, Burzum's Filosfem, came out in '96.

I like both Euronymous (Oystein Aarseth) and Varg (Kristian Vikernes), as songwriters. I think people get confused by their personal infighting. I'm not in anyone's camp, I just like what I like, and dislike what I don't like. A lot of what Varg's been doing sounds ok, it's not great by any standards, but sort of what you'd expect from him. Of course what Mayhem does is their business, and getting Attila back was a great move. Oystein loved him, and Maniac was a bit... you know.

Sometimes it takes on different hosts and creates a sound that is more mixed, sometimes it's at a small venue that nobody has heard of, but it's very much alive my friend. I know a lot of people who do the classic black metal, including myself, it's alive, but it's hiding...
