i love experimetal instruments, though i didn;t particularly like this performance because, even though you have the sounds together, you're not making a coherent song. Left apart is the discussion on what is to be regarded as song, so filosofy apart, this really sounded crappy.
It's not just an ordinary plasma ball, it's a newly invented, patent-pending musical instrument available from FUNtain (the same Canadian company that manufactures hydraulophones).
Any recordings?... I'm pretty sure this is a joke, even if it is sort of a dry humor type one.
Regardless, you could just record the audio with a program and then convert it to mp3.
And if you try to say this is art, I will assume you are trying to sound pretentious. This is coming from a guy who most people would say has rather pretentious music taste.
yeah, you COULD, but what kind of audio quality would that give? It'd be terribly compressed, and I wouldn't be happy doing it, with all the background noise.
As for whether this is art or not - I'm amazed discussions like this still have to take place. Of COURSE it is. What else would it be? What, you think they just stumbled into a toilet and starting fiddling around with things and there just happened to be a camera? Nuh uh. This is planned, it is creative expression, and it is art. Cheers.
This states-of-matter quintet was later chosen to perform at the big music conference, ICMC 2007, as the main "immersed" conference-themed performance. It seems like it's of interest to the music community. Search ICMC 2007 immersed. The headworn apparatus is a quintephone, a musical instrument that operates in the 5th element (informatics) beyond solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.

Thanks. You made my ears hurt. I think this is exactly the reason any random sounds should not be allowed to qualify as music.

Any recordings of this anywhere? And is this actually a (presumably wildly aleotoric) piece, or is it just improvised?

Half a dozen musicians cramped into a public bathroom with a handful of pipes, a plasma ball and a leaky toilet. What more could you ask for?!
