@TheAllyAvery: Interesting. How much have you tried reading? For adults and young intellectuals it's usually recommended you read the first 3 books before calling it quits. The first 3 books are very short and the first two can feel a bit too childish for some people. ;) If you're not into it by the 3rd book you shouldn't bother though.
@TheAllyAvery: And if you just can't get into it you can always watch the fan-made musical parody of it anyway. It's called A Very Potter Musical and it's here on youtube (seeing as you're a fan of musicals). It's understandable to those who haven't seen the movies or read the books but it'll give spoilers for the whole series. It's so so funny though. :D
I remember perfectly when I got that book. I held it in my hands, stared at it, and just marveled at how much awesome I was holding for a good 3 minutes. It was an awesome experience.
I believe it's because Harry Potter = the epic of our generation. Sure, we used to have The Odyssey and The Iliad (Classics major, here), but it's *great* that our generation has something of that literary magnitude. I am sad that the book series is over, and that the movie franchise will soon be ceasing as well. However, it will always be nice to get a wave of nostalgia and return back to our favorite characters and fantasy land whenever we want.
For fear of sounding like Souroman or a horrible racist I would like to be white and make out with any color so that I could become a rainbow of colors.

I think the reason it's done so well is because the characters are so well written. They're never just what's on the surface. Everything has so much depth that it's quite literally easy to submerge yourself in it and become a part of it.
As for the crayon question, I say plain old red. While I enjoy purple, if you made out with a purple crayon, it would make it look like you ate a sno-cone. Red would keep them pretty much the same.

While other books will talk about magic and people using wands, they won't make up special wizard candies or beloved wizarding shops. This world allowed grabs a hold of people and they can't let go, thus creating their own world, called the Harry Potter community. The Harry Potter Community has charity events and gatherings and thoughtful discussion on life and death and love. That's what makes Harry Potter so great

When you asked the question, the color orange inexplicably sprang into my head, so that's my answer. I don't why, but I've been thinking about it and orange is very definitely the color I'd make out with.
i would make out with yellow-green. because i believe if the crayon box was a school, yellow-green would most likely be the nerd. since i am a nerdfighter, i would make out with said nerd.
The difference is, J.K. Rowling didn't just have an idea, like most fantasy novels for kids, but she is a good author. And made you really really attached to the characters, and made it necessary to find out how it all ended.
Harry Potter is amazing, and I look forward to re-reading the entire series, over, and over again. :)

1. Harry Potter is such a gigantic phenomena because, well, it's HARRY POTTER! I just started reading the series again yesterday. For the third time. Which obvioulsy doesn't seem like that many times, because, well, it's not. But still. And 2. I'd make out with the color green if I was a crayon.
Harry Potter.. well, to point out the obvious, it's magic. I think that the reason it's so amazing is that people can relate to it- the younger kids to the first books, and adults and teenagers can really read any part of the series and be like, YES! Amazing! And then, by the time the little kids have read the first books, the next ones are out and they're old enough to relate to those. And every character feels so real, you know who they are and they feel like friends by the time you're done.
the reason Harry Potter is a phenomenon (it took me wayyy too long to spell that word) anyway the reason is that it was such an easy to read easy to relate to

mmm...Probably Green.
mostly because weirdly all my favorite things are Green. My favorite color, my favorite band (Green Day), my favorite vloggers. and yet none of them are because of the other. It just happened to work out that way. so Green.

When you asked the question, the color orange inexplicably sprang into my head, so that's my answer. I don't why, but I've been thinking about it and orange is very definitely the color I'd make out with.

The difference is, J.K. Rowling didn't just have an idea, like most fantasy novels for kids, but she is a good author. And made you really really attached to the characters, and made it necessary to find out how it all ended.
Harry Potter is amazing, and I look forward to re-reading the entire series, over, and over again. :)

1. Harry Potter is such a gigantic phenomena because, well, it's HARRY POTTER! I just started reading the series again yesterday. For the third time. Which obvioulsy doesn't seem like that many times, because, well, it's not. But still. And 2. I'd make out with the color green if I was a crayon.

Harry Potter.. well, to point out the obvious, it's magic. I think that the reason it's so amazing is that people can relate to it- the younger kids to the first books, and adults and teenagers can really read any part of the series and be like, YES! Amazing! And then, by the time the little kids have read the first books, the next ones are out and they're old enough to relate to those. And every character feels so real, you know who they are and they feel like friends by the time you're done.

the reason Harry Potter is a phenomenon (it took me wayyy too long to spell that word) anyway the reason is that it was such an easy to read easy to relate to

I think it's huge because of the fact that, yes, it is a kids book. But no other kids book were so relatable, and involving, and just overall fantastic. Although I've heard good things about Artemis Fowl.
