Going back to your point, I think we would do well to learn the more philosophical side of it, such as "what is slavery?" and "why is slavery wrong?" rather than focusing on specific historical examples - not that I deny thier importance too, but history is nothing without learning it's "meaning".

In 2001 I hired Sudanese 'lost boys' who came to the U.S. through the U.N. Upon learning that one boy was trying to earn enough money to buy his mom back from slavery, I was inspired to write the song 'Dark Rain' (see youtube video under 'two worlds connect'). @StoneThatRolls Slavery has always existed in one form or another. Though the first records of it go back to the babylonians, most anthropologists believe the practice to go back even further. Going back to your point, I think we would do well to learn the more philosophical side of it, such as "what is slavery?" and "why is slavery wrong?" rather than focusing on specific historical examples - not that I deny thier importance too, but history is nothing without learning it's "meaning".

I remember that there was an episode of Touched by an Angel on this very subject. I never got a chance to see it but I heard it was good. Im glad we got rid of this institution in this nation. Welcome to America, Mr. Bok!

All I can say is WOW!!! God Bless you and please never stop speaking out! A war was fought in America and slavery ended! But we all know that slavery continues today in different parts of the world! Africa being just one continent that continues with slavery today! God Bless You and welcome to America!

I read Francis Bok's book, too.
It made me cry. But it made me mad,too. I am telling everybody what's happening in Sudan. We need to help the people of Dafur. We need to boycott China for trading with the Sudanese Government.

In 2001 I hired Sudanese 'lost boys' who came to the U.S. through the U.N. Upon learning that one boy was trying to earn enough money to buy his mom back from slavery, I was inspired to write the song 'Dark Rain' (see youtube video under 'two worlds connect'). Thank you for posting this video to help expose atrocities that occur in Sudan.

I read a book on sudanese slavery and how so many people are trying to deny that it is still happening today.... it was a powerful book!

i have posted a similar video as this and I am SHOCKED at the hateful comments i receive (and delete) from people who deny this is happening. They call me a liar and many other hateful statements. I've gotten many more comments calling me a liar than comments from those that acknowlege the problem. It really is disheartening.
