My Mom said when her and my Daddy first got married, He went out to buy this record and she loved it! My Daddy loved her for more than 50 years he just went to heaven on 8-9-2011. Thanks for posting.
I used to take guitar lessons from his lead guitar at the W.C.Handy Club just off Beale. Id do it when they were rehearsing in the afternoon. One day Bobby Bland and Little Milton were there . Legends. Awesome blues.
This is about the best blues song ever written. I mean the best. It has this driving beat that is almost hipnotic. I graduated from high school in 1961 and at my graduation dance they must have played "Driving Wheel" about 50 times. The class went crazy for that song by Parker. I have cable TV and they have a blues channel that just plays one song right after the other with no commercials or anything. Just blues 24 hours a day. Can you dig it. moji4343
Oh Yeah! Just about every thing has been said that can be said about the greatness of Junior Parker...However, as one who saw this great showman and danced to his music...I have to add...The likes of Parker will not be seen again. As a singer there's few...that have been studied and emulated by more blues singers than he. Both "Driving Wheel" which is a master piece and "Next Time You See Me" are Parker...No one, no one can do these songs like Parker...He owns em.
Blues men are not supposed to be great singers! Parker was one of the "Best "Singers" of the Blues! Along with LITTLE WILLIE JOHN, BOBBY BLUE BLAND, O V WRIGHT, SOLOMON BURKE! I'd better name BURKE" he'll come back and "SIT on me!
This is amazing 1961 and blues was rocking at a peak ... no way has it been improved ... they just continue the goodness... these are the forgotten heroes...
my grandmother, aunts, uncles would be out the backyard grilling meats & playing cards and playing this song. they also listen to BB King and Bobby Blue Bland as well.
oh, man! this tune makes me feel so good. melody is so fine and that cool beat. I dig ol junior parker. Almost broke the repeat button listenin to dis in my car. thanks for postin!
My Grandmother,Uncle, young Cousin and I,listened to this on 8 track tape from California to Arkansas and back,Man...this song reminds me of my childhood.Great post!

I disagree with roadappleband. Paul was good but Little Junior Parker was great.

This has to be one of the finest blues songs ever written. The beat and the horns are purely hypnotic.
