I really don't know what to think of this movie. It wasn't the worst movie I've seen (I've seen so much worse on Fearnet and youtube), but it wasn't necessarilly memorable either except for a few moments like the tree scene, the end, and when the brother turns panther (wasn't really that scary either). It was just meh. It made me interested in watching the original though because I heard the original is really good and I've watched some really good black and white movies.
@scueapler: I agree! Nastassia Kinski is disarmingly beautiful! You could actually get a palpable sense of her skin, eyes, her emotions - now with all this CGI, filters and touch-ups, actors look like cartoons, and it's hard to develop a crush on computer effects!
@VASINGER -- Considering that she started in New Orleans, she didn't do all that badly -- but she wouldn't have had much money anyway, since she and her brother were orphaned at a young age and raised separately in foster care. She actually never makes it to Richmond...she goes back to New Orleans.
@OreadNYC Oh, I see. I was just curious, since I am from Richmond.. I wonder , though, why he didnt suggest she go just straight north, instead of north and east. Like to Kansas or somewhere closer out to where Louisiana might be. Its still hard to think of Richmond as "up north", but I guess to some people it is, lol.
and by the way, the original cat people was a fantastic movie, especially given its low budget. it was very different from this one but if you can't appreciate how good it was, then your taste obviously just sucks.
normally i hav a very strict "no scary movies" policy due to my psychotic imagination but im sorta interested in this movie but i dnt know whether to watch it or not. and if i do, which one? this one or the original?
@zil1456 Yes both, but don't even think about stacking them up against each other. They're incomparable and equally valid. It's also more of a sexual thriller than horror, I think you'll be ok.
a favorite. love her .. she used to be in so many movies back then. i love the hunger too with c. denueve & bowie. both these movies were so surreal .. i can t explain it but it was different .
This movie was kind of slick. At least its a lot better then the trashy 1940's version. Maybe they should remake it again, give it more of a twist. Maybe a smarter girl that decides doing it with her sexy English cousin was the better choice.
Care to explain why you thought the original was "trashy"? I mean I liked this too, but the original was in my mind superior in so many ways. It was well acted, beautifully shot, well written, and mastered the use of fear of the unseen and psychological terror. I'm a big fan of the horror genre and it's one of my favorites along with the sequel. This was good as it's own thing, still looked great, and had Bowie on the soundtrack, but wasn't as good in my mind. But I still like it.
Do you think the remakes of The Thing, The Fly and The Blob were better remakes than this and do you think they actually improved on their hokey 50's b-movie counterparts? and what did you think of Rob Zombie's Halloween remake?
Boy you really have a thing for remakes don't you? To be quite honest my friend many of the remakes you've been asking me about on other videos I haven't actually seen or just thought were satisfactory. I've answered you about the ones you just listed on another video as being better effects wise, but thinking hte originals were just as good storywise, and as for Halloween I thought it was okay. Not something I highly reard, but okay. The sequel didn't do much for me.
Nope. There's thousands of horror movies out there, and at 19 (of which I only started watching films of the genre more often 4 years ago) I still have y work cut out for me. I admit I don't go out of my way to watch today's remakes especially if I haven't seen the originals (like the ones you just mentioned) and I find most of them waste any potential they have. It seems like more of an effort to rush every title out there at once rather than spend time making sure it'll work.
It's okay I suppose, but many aren't well known or beloved for a reason. I don't think people were that excited to hear about remakes of things like Prom Night or The Stepfather for example. The whole "re-imagining" thing isn't doing anyone any favors and as for remakes of foreign films, it seems like it's because people are just too lazy to read. But it doesn't really matter what I think, because Hollywood will keep doing it. I dislike it, but my opiion alone won't solve it.
Good point. I was so disappointed at the version on the album--most of the versions on the album aren't as good as the ones in the movie. Whassup Moroder...???
This movie was was permanently etched into my life, having seen parts of it as early as age 2. Around that age my mother took me to the zoo to see the panthers. I couldn't be more proud of her for raising me right.
After watching this movie from the beginning till the end without interuption. I always go outside and "act" like "one of them" Anybody ever experience that?
This is one of the best parts of a wonderful movie. My friend, excellent job of uploading this segment. Thanks for showing me Cat People the best they will let you.
Fine choice, Bato ... You offer the cat's cream here. Awesome!
Catsup or Ketchup?...that is the question!

nastasssjia kinski is the ultimate early 80s girl. She was just so beautiful. I don't think any actress today would be allowed to look that natural.
