Where's the next song??!! I have this performance on video (since the day of the gig) and she does another song ("Oh People", I think) after this, a fantastic, roof-raising number which ends with a snatch of What's Goin' On then "What's the meaning of life?" from the then-current hip-hop song (De La Soul?). As soon as I learn YouTube, I'm uploading it!
Ol' Girl, dont be fuckin around when them heels hit the stage. Ya'll hear me?...like I say, when u put a microphone this chicks' hand, she fills in the muthafukkin blanks. I dont care if she singin' on the moon or sittin' on the goddamm toilet, she dont be half-steppin'.
nice to see patti in south africa, especially when many of her song's that didnt do good in the states charted #1 in South Africa.....sure they were all excited
@lex1eleven This was in London England - at Wembley Stadium, and not in South Africa - although they had a live television link to S.A. which was why Patti says Good Evening to them!
1:09 speaks for itself...she hit the hell out of that note. I'm always amazed at Patti's showmanship at every single performance. It doesn't seem to matter the venue, event, time of day, audience...she gives us a brilliant performance each time. Truly a gift from God.
she did a mean rendition of Over the Rainbow to close her set at Wembley, got so carried away that she ripped one of the sleeves of her dress of and threw it away, then did the same with the mic stand. Hers was a much more impressive performance than Whitney Houston's - and she didn't antagonise her peers the way that supposed diva did.
wouldn't hurt to pay ms houston the respect she deserves - whatever your preferred songstress is. patti's performance was brilliant - and so was whitney's!
but she hasn't earned any respect and she was a temperamental mess at this gig. they were their to pay tribute to Mandela and she should have checked her outsized ego at the door. she's a flaky hyperventilator.
All the energy is FIRE!She come out there fiece. The audience was ready. At :09-:10, it trips me out how the tallest background singer appears to lose his rhythm. Many singers would be afraid to fly through that stage like that in HEELS. WOW! Patti does me proud. Could you imagine if she did this song in 85 at Live Aid even though it wasn't out then.
and what's ironic about the tallest bgrd singer is that, he was Patti's drummer at that time. But here they've must have decided to use other guest/famous percussionists...and so for him to lose his time is something, as he's the drummer and his job is to keep the time...i guess not in here. you can see him on the live in ny 91, he's on the drums.
I wouldn't have known it was him if you didn't state that. I think it's good when you can rely on your band to also cover for your background singers, esp. if they can sing. I just take it that he's not a dancer lol.
She was most certainly being herself...love you Ms. Labelle.

yes, she cannot drive a vehicle.

With all of Patti's power, it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't need a vehicle.
