@TommyChevyBugle Total waste of money, you sure of that?Do you know the response district and call volume, and call types of this department? And this rig was new in 2002 or 03,it's 2012 now and this department is still in business, and this rig is still in-service.
@rocketman5989 Back then I knew at least a few companies were blowing sirens and horns as they left for home,so I just started recording. And I lucked into getting this beautiful-ness.
I too was thinking about lending my town's fire station my Nathan Airchime K3LA, I would be the supply for the air tank and compressor, valves, pulley handle and mounting brackets. I more than likely will, train horns on any fire truck = people getting out of the way and fast!
holy hell, it's a Nathan AirChime P5 (new cast). When I saw "train horn on a heavy rescue" I was expecting one of those plastic auto zone knock offs, not the real deal. But this isn't the 1st time I've heard of a locomotive horn put on fire apperatus. I heard in PA I forget which town, there's a station with a Nathan AirChime K5LA on their tower. I'd like to see anyone not move out of their way.
@Camo00505 Oh snap! Really? This is from my tape camcorder,so it's old and was transferred through a capture device. And for your info it is good.Since you got comments I'll look at your channel to see what you have to offer that's better than mine. Thanks for stopping by.
That was pretty cool. The horn was drowning out the Q but definitely cool. As for Txfiremedc103 comments about hiring professionals because they're a volunteer company, suck it dude. I know some companies and use to work with a volunteer company that would run circles around your paid departments.

Growing up in Pa I know how you firemen in Maryland know how to over do it but in a good way! It's about the safety of our crews responding especially in heavy traffic!
Sounded awesome!!! When is the convention in OC? I haven't been to that one. I grew up in York Co and pass through Walkersville usually when we head to the OBX. Sounds like I need to stop in there and check it out next time I'm back there.

Dude txfiremedc103 pull the dick outa ur ass and have some fun if thats wut keeps ur crew happy amd willing to stick around so wut ..... plus it just sounds bitchin
Here's mine,Overkill or not this department bought what they wanted and needed. If Train horns,6 spinners,Powercall and A pack of "NowandLaters", is what hypes your guys up and keeps them around, and motivates them ,then do it. Eastcoast ,baby.I love rigs from all over, but Eastcoast has the most beautiful sounding and looking rigs.
@fdnylover Yeah but it's kool to be spoiled sometimes.Especially if it's for bangin' ass rigs.I'll be 40 years old in a couple years and I still love all the siren, horn and lights like a 10 year old would.
@Txfiremedc103 You may think it's overkill, but one good reason a train horn is needed is for gangsters who like to listen to their music at insane levels with massive subwoofers, as well as people who just generally do not pay attention. A train horn is very loud, meaning it's very hard to miss. You'd be surprised how many accidents occur because,"I didn't know it was coming."

Use hi-lo pitch air horns as your siren, it saves electricity and it's just as loud as Federal Q if no louder. (but you gotta get the right model with a good compressor and keep good maintenance or it gonna be junk)
3:59 till 4:10, 4:54 till 4:59, 5:36 till 5:49 Check out the video responses and type in walkersville rescue squad in a search. The train horns are in all these spots.
That's perfect!...what do people do when they hear a train whistle...they start lookin around to see where it is!...This will def get's peoples attention and tell them to get the hell out of the way!
The Elkridge volunteers in Howard county, Maryland have a Nathan N5a 5 chime (same horn as on Amtrak's old FP40 locomotives)on their squad / heavy rescue truck.
I know they are supposed to be IN the bumper of custom fire apparatus.I've been riding fire trucks for 20 years now.My point is that the higher horns are mounted the further they will warn.If the position is in the bumper, the vehicle directly in front of the rig will absorb most of the blast. There for long distance warning is not achieved.
no matter where they are mounted its a proven fact, and i will agree myself, you wont hear the apparatus until its about 200 feet behind you...unless of course youre like me and just hold the q pedal down.... :D
For all that i know, there is two big Heavy Rescues in Maryland, one in Pa,and one in Northern Delaware. Those are the ones that i witnessed. The Rescue in Pa has a couple of clips on youtube with the rig responding and they are blasting the hell out of them horns.I'll send it to you when i find it.Thanks for checking me out.
