I found you! You know those moments when you know that you know something but it takes someone else telling you it's okay for you to actually believe it's okay? That just happened.
Thank you for this video. The stuff that you just talked about is something that I NOW believe is important for me to do - forgive myself. I mean, there are a lot of embarrassing things that I've done and I just can't let go of them. As a result, it has strengthened the social anxiety that I've had as the years went by.
@iSpeakKonglish After some treatment, I can say that I feel more comfortable being myself (or at least I try to be) in front of other people. And to hear you say, "It's ok, forgive yourself and laugh about it," is very comforting.
when you say "human are ..." is there other than human watch youtube? lol
when you say "freedom to leave your brain" you make it sound like there are some real "tinny little man" inside human mind... LoL
& "make room for other importing thing" WTF ! Harddrive in our head xD ? if you are worried about space in your brain .. dont worry .. your head will get bigger like a balloon "in a way you can understand"... =D
and damn .. what part of x-man movie did you do? xD
As a recently sober alcoholic this video is such a blessing. When trying to sleep I often get "thought attack" about things I have done while intoxicated. Thank you so much for posting this.
@archkyle no one said anything about another person.. its chemicals, no one controls them. It's atoms and matter. You can't control your thoughts, not all of them at least. It's like saying you can control your lungs and kidneys.
@farah4 yep we cant control every single emotion, i mean if i saw my mom get hurt in any way by someone i doubt i can choose to be happy. i might be able to control not killing the person but anger will still be there.
Also I tend to blab to people about what had just happened as if some how there approval would make what happened okay. Like I'm looking for someone to be like it's okay. If that happened to me I wouldn't feel bad about it. Your right. I do need to just forgive myself for it, because no one else even knows.
I don't usually think about my embarrassing moments when I'm trying to go to bed. I do like right after it happens and then I think about it like all day. And actually every time I do, I absorb and really think about how it makes me and my body feel and what I do. That doesn't really help me or make it go away... it happens all the time but now I'm just more aware of it.. I laugh at myself and put my hands to my face or put my head in my arms as to run away and get that sick feeling in mystomach
There's an cool book called "The User Illusion" I read years ago. It describes how limited the conscious mind is, in that the subconscious present options and the conscious mind can only choose from them. It also explains how there's more to us than the conscious self- it's a big old feedback loop. In a sense, we do own our own minds, but in a sense our minds can also own us. It's about striking a balance and learning to be really be kind and accepting of ourselves. Good stuff!
that never happens to me. I've never thought of anything that made me tense up...but I do have conversations in my head, and sometimes they become so real that I start making motions, like I'm actually talking....yeah, I'm insane..
Brilliant video. The useful insights that you provide are actually similar to those used by psychologists in CB therapy to treat things like stress/anxiety disorders.
Michelle is absolutely correct about this. When I was a kid my Mom got cancer, I began sleep walking Years later she got it again and I once more began sleepwalking (this time actually leaving the house!). I also had trouble falling asleep. By age 15 I gained control of my mind to the point where I could turn my mind off and always go right to sleep, sleep soundly for 8 hours and not sleep walk. Later by age 25 I began bio-feedback training and completely mastered the technique.
THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS AND "CC", IT HELPS ME TO PRACTICE MY ENGLISH IN A FUNNY WAY!!! MY APOLOGIES FOR MY POOR ENGLISH, I AM ONLY A SOUTH AMERICAN GUY (FART) (WHAT???)

LMAO. "Hey Farts!" You always manage to get me hooked in the first 5 seconds of this video.
Also. I like what you did here-- I clicked on this thinking it was going to be (only) silly & funny and look at that good stuff you're just laying on us! I got to exactly #t=2m42s and said, in my brain, "HOLD THE PHONE. This chick just pulled one on me. I like it!"
Kind of like Marie Forleo did with the title of her book. Ya'll are some smart ladies!!!!!!!! Trying to grow up to be like you :)
I really wish you and I were friends in real life, and that's weird to say because I never think that of a YouTuber. But, just from watching your more serious videos, they not only helps me but they make me want to have conversations about just random, "deep" shit with you.
I like write on a post-it all the things that i've done wrong or the embarassing moment which i don't feel confortable with.. and everyday i read and read the post it all over again.. and now i am like accustomed about those thing and don't give me problems anymore!
Y'know I kept paying attention to the subtitles, but I just let it go for once 'cause I was more concerned with what you had to say than to the little things I could fix with the text. That is one of my nuances but this was pretty good for distracting me from that. =]
Have you personally spoken to Dale Carnegie in a séance? :) Anyway, you're not really messed up until you feel embarrassed for a fictional character. For instance, when I'm watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and I actually tense up for Larry David because he's just too awkward.
this video is actually amazing, like this built up my self esteem by 100. i dont even know what that scale is but you get the point. thank you so much. that fist clenching thing has been a problem of mine for a while and now i can stop. woohoo thanks!

That was surprisingly insightful. Not that I'm surprised it's coming from you - it's just that I don't expect insight when I click on youtube videos. Thought I'd clarify. Just in case.
Nice sexy times at the end, too. Slowmo makes everything sexier, though, so don't be too flattered.
@Hyetalogy lol, thanks for clarifying. Don't you love when people are shocked by something good you do? Such warm snuggly feelings. Especially when it's your parents!
@PhiltrumOz Agreed, except for the part where you said you can't stop it. You absolutely can. You have full control over your mind, that's the whole point! :)
I did this and it totally worked now when ever I think about my frost day of highschool and how I went to the ap Spanish class insted of Spanish one I just laugh
Michelle, that was GREAT! Do you know *how long* it took me to realize this? I spent my 20's with such anxiety, not recognizing all these points you presented. I am glad you have neatly verbalized this so that you can help your audience!
Interesting that you mention about observing your body's reaction, because I do that from time to time, and it's so fascinating. I'm also a fist clincher. Haha. Have you ever had sleep paralysis? I used to get it a lot more often than I do now, but if you do, try and see if you can "lift" yourself up from the bed. The whole experience is pretty darn cool.
P.S. The main thing I took away is the last 10-seconds of this video. So sexy.
As far as the subject at hand, I agree with you fully. I tweeted yesterday that I think one of the greatest skill a person can have (and will serve them well), is knowing when to let go and move on. Trapping yourself with things that you have no control over, or are in the past, can do so much damage.
That said, in one of my past vlogs, I shared the philosophy that in order to be positive, one must embrace negativity. Sounds counter-intuitive, but the idea is the same as letting go. Will share.
lol, nice. to be in total self control ;). wondering minds, bit of a love hate relationship :P. Those who are controlled by external emotions etc, is true. Just they haven't mastered there own. Protection techniques help with that. Rock on being real to yourself.
this is a great video one of your top five ever that I have seen and I think a lot of people could benifit by watching it atleast once a week if not alot more than that thanks for the fun and cant forget the great veiw when your on
great video. very interesting, I'll try to thinking about what I am doing! but alcohol helps you to fall asleep and forget embarrassing moments as well, don't you think there is a bit of that as well :)
I guess I am just the type of person that doesn't get embarrassed very easily. I thought about it for a while, but couldn't remember anything. You gave some good advice though.
smiling to get sleep, this works because you are inducing the release of neurotransmitters that relax you, relax your brain (that's not the official definition of what occurs), allowing you to sleep. That also occurs when people engage in physical exercises, hence why people with insomnia should practice exercises. Try it, it really works! [too nerd? sorry =/ that wasn't the intention.] I think that this has nothing to do with the central issue.
OMG again you're saying stuff i've been taught!! the forgiveness thing.. now I forget what the first thing was.... you've learned a lot about healing. Yay!
Embarrassing things are a subset of regrettable things. So aspects of your discussion may apply to the larger class of problems people deal with. Physical disorders such as clinical depression may make it more difficult or impossible to “just shake off” memories of regrettable things. I think the ability to control our thoughts is the measure of how sane we are.
Some people clench their fists; others grind their teeth.
@BlankBrain A right brain thinker wouldn't come to the conclusion that "the ability to control our thoughts is the measure of how sane we are". IMO this opinion is somewhat of a metaphor for the left brain thinker, which is ultimately what the education system pumps out. IMO "control" is subjective.
THATS IT I'M FIRING MY THERAPIST (LOL) i doo that alot when i cant sleep and i also clench my eyes supa hard but didnt notice until i was listening to music while laying down for bed i stopped and was like WTF?!! so i breathed like you said and tried to calm mysself down
Ah yes!!!! I call those "speedo thoughts"!!!! Really awesome advice. I faved this so I can come back to it some morning at 4am when I'm having this problem!!! :)
you are so freaking inspirational and smart, i love people who can be so crazy and random and immature one moment but then they know when to be mature, when to be serious. i love your blogs and videos, you are basically a part of my daily life now. i check your blog when i get home from school.
@cinormak Actually, the most simple advice I've ever heard for people who can't sleep is that they need to get more exercise. Similar to how a dog will go stir crazy if it's locked up for a long time. Humans are the same. Exercise is the best sleep aid :)
@RPOED1 Working long hours isn't exercise unless your job involves some sort of cardio. When I worked a job with long hours and i was on my feet constantly, I couldn't sleep because my mind was buzzing with the annoyances of the day. After quitting that job and doing something more personally fulfilling, I immediately noticed that I had an easier time falling asleep. Perhaps your problem lies elsewhere.
I really thought I was the only one who did this!

[too nerd? sorry =/ that wasn't the intention.] I think that this has nothing to do with the central issue.
so that's it, love your videos! do it more!

That whole thing may work, until....
anyone know the British TV show called SKINS?
I was watching an episode of it in class, when my phone vibrated.
so without pausing the video on my laptop, I put my headphones down and started replying.
After I send the text and look at my laptop, there was a video of two half naked boys hugging and kissing each other...
I look back and the girl I like and the Prof were looking at me with "the face", along with 30 other people.
now try to shake that away..

@cinormak Actually, the most simple advice I've ever heard for people who can't sleep is that they need to get more exercise. Similar to how a dog will go stir crazy if it's locked up for a long time. Humans are the same. Exercise is the best sleep aid :)

@FartWithHeadphonesOn i work 12 hour shifts on my feet all day 5 days a week & can't sleep so explain that?
RPOED1 1 year ago
@RPOED1 Working long hours isn't exercise unless your job involves some sort of cardio. When I worked a job with long hours and i was on my feet constantly, I couldn't sleep because my mind was buzzing with the annoyances of the day. After quitting that job and doing something more personally fulfilling, I immediately noticed that I had an easier time falling asleep. Perhaps your problem lies elsewhere.
FartWithHeadphonesOn 1 year ago
@FartWithHeadphonesOn i need to work for the money so can't quit or anything.
u make a good point with what your saying about the mind buzzing with annoyances of the day.
