This is all good but music isn't dying - it's the music industry & radio that's dying - music will go on forever - they heyday of the 60-90s will never be seen again but good music will still get out to the masses. The problem now is there's so much competition, you can't possibly hear it all..

Fuck Doyle, the song on the end here kicks ass ! Reminds me kind of of the Sly stuff you played us .( I'm assuming thats Doyle on the ending song, couldn't seem to find out).
Would have been better with more hip hop and grunge artists. People like Lauryn Hill, Chuck D, Guru, Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell could have explained in more depth what happens when mainstream hijack the genre because these are the two genres that have been sold out the most in recent times. Just as good music would die from underexposure, good genres die from too much, indirectly, via artists and businesses who leech off it. Erykah Badu mentions it, but that could have been explored more.
I'm certain we're going to witness a drastic change in popular music in the next few years. It happens every decade, whether the mainstream is good or not. People hit a wall c. 1980 with the counterculture, soul, and disco, so they jumped onto new wave, hard rock, and punk. People hit another wall with that in 1991, so when grunge and hip hop exploded they latched onto that. Another wall hit in 1999 and they (stupidly) embraced nu metal and pop and southern rap. We're hitting another wall now.
Not much more can be done with teen pop or screamo or autotune/Southern rap, so already people are looking for new types of music. I think electronica, indie rock, heavy metal, and alternative hip hop are next. And the beauty of those genre's is that they do not strive for mass acceptance. I think the 2010's will witness a musical Renaissance, IMO.
I loved this movie. A real eye-opener and inspiration, as it freed me to just be myself and express myself as an artist! No longer do I feel worried about having to conform to what the music industry, mass media, and people want. But Just to BE ME I am moved!
How could a music purist say this wasn't a good doc? If you're a music purist it doesn't matter what genres it covers just simply the fact that it talked about what's wrong with the industry today makes it good.
Those talented people that make music, for the love of music, do not need a “record industry” to continue doing what they do and the music they make is the best of all.
@alhex123, you're right that there are other genres of music but...if you looked from beginning, these genres came from somewhere, e.g. blues, jazz. And yes, I bet they could have interviewed other artists but maybe, these artists didn't want to be interviewed.
Sometimes it happens that way because this video is saying things that most artists who made their money, don't want to say. They "still signed up" to these labels. Still good documentary and valid points.
thanks so much for uploading this, great documentary, wish it covered more than a few genres like someone else said. i dont really care much for the type of music they covered, but i dont think its bad music either.
Great Documentary!! Im glad it exposes us to watz real. So sick of this fluffy shit we hear on the radio and so on. This brings light to everything and the pigs who run wat we call "music" today. The best thing is that it's educational. It gives a gateway for all the people who want hear and express real music a pathway to follow.
Sorry not a good documentary sure it has its ups but it just focused on blues, jazz, and classic rock. There are many other genres and artist to interview that are not well known. It talked about the industry and that was educational.
but it should of ended with a feeling of hope and more unknown artist to be featured and give us a hope and at least ended with a song of Bob Dylan - The Times that are changing?
I think I am music purist only listen to what is worth I listen to everething!Classic Rock, Punk, Underground Hip Hop, Rock and Roll, Reggae, Indie, Spanish, Ska, 80, 90, Pop, and so much but only those songs that are worth to play.
My favorite Artist at the time Whitest Boy Alive - Burning
yeah i noticed that too, a lotta hippy jam shit. im not saying its a bad thing or bad music, but it covered a very narrow spectrum. i liked the views expressed though
It's hard to make a documentary where you try and contrast crap from quality without lots of the audience thinking you've got things ASS backwards. I can imagine alot of music fans wincing at the repeated references in this documentary to quality artists such as "Bruce Springsteen, Dave Mathews, and Doyle Bramhall."
Like Branford says, the truely cutting edge music of today isn't music its likely you will like for many years to come.
Damn.. I dont even know what to believe maybe i should just follow th music iin my heart

♥ ..5 ★ thats so true, sadly it is. Maybe some time it will change and the music made from "real" musicans
will come back again. I don`t like the music "industry", music is made from souls for souls and not (only ) for sale.
