why do you have an off position with the landing gear

It stops the pneumatic crank from spinning to raise the gear. It stays in the down position when you lower it though because the gear uses gravity to fall out of the plane. But when you watch this video, you can see the crank to raise the gear was working for the entire flight, and the pilots weren't using a checklist.

@thisissway its flight is landing gear retract, ist flight is not approaching to airport,,,,, look the flaps set, it is retract "0", so its is no approach (sorry for my english)

The landing gear is up, and so are their flaps. So no, this is not the final approach :P

@thisissway in the off position it shuts down the hydraulics of the landing gear so the lines don't have pressure on them all the time.

Someone of the crew is a friend of mine.

So I'm very lucky, we used flew over Italy and Monaco, France Alps etc.
