  • That's what i called ART !

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GUITAR SOLOS EVER ! ALONG WITH THE CULT'S NIRVANA !

  • I think they nicked that main hook from "Lost Johnny" by Hawkwind/Motorhead. In a really great way, though. I've always thought that.

  • Vai...quasi il migliore...megio di lui solo Lane

  • ....time to listen to the solo again...

  • WOW!!! ; )))

  • This may be Vai's best recorded moment...

  • Does anyone know if there is a transcription of this song anywhere? Having loved this song for over twenty years I thought I might spend the next twenty trying to play it note for note.

  • @alkeshboy You pretty much summed it up, partner. I think the notes would like thousands of dead insects stuck to fly paper. I mean that in the best way. :)

  • @skrason ha ha,,,,wonderful comment! perfekt!! but i hear ryuichi sakamoto playing in there & am listening to him....love him that beautiful genius.

  • It just occurred to me how much this sounds like Jane's Addiction's "Three Days" once Steve's solo kicks in.

  • they should of cut the first minute and 20, unnecessary.

  • @MOSTechnology I actually quite like that part hah. I know what you mean about it maybe not be being needed as part of this song. But I like it in itself hah.

  • jhon lydon loco como siempre pero esencial para la ecena post punk a principios de ls 80 con pil inolvidables recuerdos de mi pais this is not a lovove song peru me gustaron los ochenta mucho

  • one of the finest songs to grace the planet...it takes me all over my life inside my head...pil is one band that has and always will be there since they began...john lydon is genius.

  • I'm looking for this guitar sound of steve vai for almost 25 years, I've got it tonight . Thank you YouTube. During these 25 years , the sound always appear in my ears.

  • this is guitar rock 101

  • @revgin This is Rock guitar Doctorate dissertation ................

  • @rokadan dude, I was drunk...I totally agree with you...I have a pil tat on my hand...for twenty years now..this album is great...and I'm trying to kick the drunk thing..but Lydon can say in a sentence what takes most songwriters to say in a paragraph

  • I have always loved this - but had no idea Steve Vai was on guitar - it is THE Steve Vai we're talking about here?

  • Some kids today may not like this song but to me it is "like the dawn of time to present" listening to the discord then the beat of humanity starts and then rips out with all of creation giving way to the future. PIL is more than just a punk band. Incredible blend of hard and soft. These things are at ease! And will find there way! Solo at 5:40 till then end gives me shivers every time I listen to it and I've been into them for over 30yrs Emotion in the solo makes my cry as it very well does!

  • One of Vai's many shining moments! I used to have the Cassette version at one point. Great Album.

  • This song has to be one of my all time favorites "the deserted island top 10" it's number 1! Procreation have a nice day... It has a very Pakistani majestic tone to it but screaming UK all the way! I love the violin section, and the drumming is brilliant. I personally enjoy the part where it busts into the solo, bam! love it! Anything good like this in the main stream music right now I need some new music but nobody else does it like public image limited!

  • The best music is usually one you can't define, and that's this all over. What would you call this? Metal-Krishna-Punk??? How about just "genius"?

  • A perfect ending for a five star album, er, cassette, er, CD!

  • Susan and Norman, you're so normal...

  • now, steve stevens ... THERE'S a wanker for ya

  • wish this lineup had recorded more (or played live, ohhh godddd...). then again, the 7 songs on this LP are each little perfectly crafted gems, and maybe it's good the formula didn't get watered down. as it stands, "album" is ol' john's last great artistic statement, and anyone who thinks he sold out here needs to listen closer. i play this track for people who think steve vai is a wanker and watch their mouths fall open at the beauty and construction of this solo

  • You can imagine all the "post punk" people telling Lydon that you can't have guitar solos. And John going "I can't have fuckin' WHAT! Get me an American shredder NOW!!"

  • Ginger Baker on drums.

  • john lydon = legend. steve vai played the guitar of a lifetime for this song . another amazing but unheard track.

  • diggit- for some reason I thought that Steve Stevens has also played on "Album" but I am wrong! Marty Atkins on drums?

  • @dinkenheimer - He may have played on some but this track is Ginger Baker.

  • A supergroup who got on with the job at hand rather than just sit posing and look at the result, sheer brilliance!

  • When I first heard this I was lost for words. I listened to the song, I listened to it's 'Black Hole Sun' stifling heat apocalypse-about-to-break music with it's lull into a false sense of security shattered by the solo. Then I was told about this American guitar player called Steve Vai who 'guested' on the album. Then i saw crossroads. The man is a genius who called Lydon a 'kindred spirit' in an interview & along with Lydon & Laswell, Baker et al created an album STILL ahead of it's time.

  • best guitar solo ever

  • 6:15 is nice but 6:27 - 6:36 Oh my goodness...

  • Steve's solo is quite possibly the finest moment he has ever had, and that, of course is saying a lot. From the Knife in the Eyeball intro, to the Exploding Tapping Cascade at 6:26, the Rocket up the Mountain Buildup at 7:12, and the Chills Down Your Spine Descending Middle Eastern Resolve at 7:17, and the final Make the Guitar Speak it's Own Language Fadeout at 7:38, this should be remembered as His Finest Hour!

  • Is that Rolf Harris playing in the background on the intro?!

  • Hey I just hear the didgeridoo the first time! Great.

  • @katoness

    Ryuichi Sakamoto on Fairlight CMI?

  • I think Vai reaches perfection in this song. On his deathbed, he should look back and be proud!

  • Steve has said in several interviews before that he thinks some of his best playing ever is on this album.

  • @FortiniIII Totally nothing has touched this solo since 1986.I wish something would.

  • pil tiene ahuante buddooooossss!!!

  • John Lydon, Bill Laswell, Ginger Baker and Steve Vai...what more could you ask for? Electrified me when I first heard it in 1986 and it still sounds groundbreaking 22 years later.

  • @anigbrowl even better 24 years later.

  • Steve Vai is some sort of space alien diety.

  • @777zippy777 - His genius often confuses me, but elation tends to win out in the end. Love him...

  • i have loved this song forever, such a cool track and I agree I think it may be Vai's best work which is saying a lot!

  • This has been my favourite Vai solo for the last 17years. Beautiful in construction and execution with all the feeling one might wring from a piece of wood. I love it....

  • I agree, this is Vai at his all-time best.

  • @alkeshboy Agreed - he captured it perfectly. It's still my favourite to this day as well.

  • @alkeshboy ah same here...i llike that, wring from a piece o wood. thanks for that.

  • Maybe it's just me, but the simplicity of that PiL image combined with the song just seems to be somehow perfect. Great song with a cool image to boot. Good job.

  • I absolutely agree with you !

This song as well as the album it was issued from, is wonderful !

John Lydon is a genius !

  • Steve Vai at his best for the guitar solo. And with Ginger Baker for company the outcome is immense. A hidden gem!
