Does anyone know if there is a transcription of this song anywhere? Having loved this song for over twenty years I thought I might spend the next twenty trying to play it note for note.
@alkeshboy You pretty much summed it up, partner. I think the notes would like thousands of dead insects stuck to fly paper. I mean that in the best way. :)
@MOSTechnology I actually quite like that part hah. I know what you mean about it maybe not be being needed as part of this song. But I like it in itself hah.
jhon lydon loco como siempre pero esencial para la ecena post punk a principios de ls 80 con pil inolvidables recuerdos de mi pais this is not a lovove song peru me gustaron los ochenta mucho
one of the finest songs to grace the planet...it takes me all over my life inside my head...pil is one band that has and always will be there since they began...john lydon is genius.
I'm looking for this guitar sound of steve vai for almost 25 years, I've got it tonight . Thank you YouTube. During these 25 years , the sound always appear in my ears.
@rokadan dude, I was drunk...I totally agree with you...I have a pil tat on my hand...for twenty years now..this album is great...and I'm trying to kick the drunk thing..but Lydon can say in a sentence what takes most songwriters to say in a paragraph
Some kids today may not like this song but to me it is "like the dawn of time to present" listening to the discord then the beat of humanity starts and then rips out with all of creation giving way to the future. PIL is more than just a punk band. Incredible blend of hard and soft. These things are at ease! And will find there way! Solo at 5:40 till then end gives me shivers every time I listen to it and I've been into them for over 30yrs Emotion in the solo makes my cry as it very well does!
This song has to be one of my all time favorites "the deserted island top 10" it's number 1! Procreation have a nice day... It has a very Pakistani majestic tone to it but screaming UK all the way! I love the violin section, and the drumming is brilliant. I personally enjoy the part where it busts into the solo, bam! love it! Anything good like this in the main stream music right now I need some new music but nobody else does it like public image limited!
wish this lineup had recorded more (or played live, ohhh godddd...). then again, the 7 songs on this LP are each little perfectly crafted gems, and maybe it's good the formula didn't get watered down. as it stands, "album" is ol' john's last great artistic statement, and anyone who thinks he sold out here needs to listen closer. i play this track for people who think steve vai is a wanker and watch their mouths fall open at the beauty and construction of this solo
You can imagine all the "post punk" people telling Lydon that you can't have guitar solos. And John going "I can't have fuckin' WHAT! Get me an American shredder NOW!!"
When I first heard this I was lost for words. I listened to the song, I listened to it's 'Black Hole Sun' stifling heat apocalypse-about-to-break music with it's lull into a false sense of security shattered by the solo. Then I was told about this American guitar player called Steve Vai who 'guested' on the album. Then i saw crossroads. The man is a genius who called Lydon a 'kindred spirit' in an interview & along with Lydon & Laswell, Baker et al created an album STILL ahead of it's time.
Steve's solo is quite possibly the finest moment he has ever had, and that, of course is saying a lot. From the Knife in the Eyeball intro, to the Exploding Tapping Cascade at 6:26, the Rocket up the Mountain Buildup at 7:12, and the Chills Down Your Spine Descending Middle Eastern Resolve at 7:17, and the final Make the Guitar Speak it's Own Language Fadeout at 7:38, this should be remembered as His Finest Hour!
John Lydon, Bill Laswell, Ginger Baker and Steve Vai...what more could you ask for? Electrified me when I first heard it in 1986 and it still sounds groundbreaking 22 years later.
This has been my favourite Vai solo for the last 17years. Beautiful in construction and execution with all the feeling one might wring from a piece of wood. I love it....
Maybe it's just me, but the simplicity of that PiL image combined with the song just seems to be somehow perfect. Great song with a cool image to boot. Good job.

I think they nicked that main hook from "Lost Johnny" by Hawkwind/Motorhead. In a really great way, though. I've always thought that.

I have always loved this - but had no idea Steve Vai was on guitar - it is THE Steve Vai we're talking about here?

The best music is usually one you can't define, and that's this all over. What would you call this? Metal-Krishna-Punk??? How about just "genius"?
