Hi DarkAngel182..Need soome advice if possible..My father used to own a rental shop in salford manchester from 1980 to 1988 before he passed grhs...I was left with all his beta machines and films...i have about 2,000 ex rental films..mostly horror..but one i keep getting asked about is The beast in heat by jvi..is this rare as i have 4 copies..original that is..please advise
Yes it is a fairly rare VHS to come by, you'd probably get a tidy sum for it on Ebay, just be sure to put "pre-cert video nasty" in the item description.
Simple, the authorities based their list on the films title, box art, or recommednations by the press.
In this case, they seized on the title because it had the word "Zombie" in it. They must have had a shock when they came to watch it and found it was just a bad comedy.
have you seen Suffer Little Children that was banned under the act.Apparantly awful as in poor film, was slammed in the sun early 80's? cheers, good commentary
Really enjoyed this series of vids - you clearly know your stuff! I'm going to have a look through your other stuff to see if you've criticised Jess Franco in more detail anywhere else...;-) Top work and nice collection.
Hey man thanks for the videos I was thinking of starting a collection but did not really have a good guide to start. Now I know what to start buying, again thanks alot.
I own the anchor bay release of "Zombie"', which is also unrated, however I am considering buying the blue underground version, due to the fact that all of their releases have a good selection of extras. Is the blue underground version the one called "Zombi 2"? Happy viewing mate!
i have the blue underground version of zombie, and it's just titled "zombie, the shriek show version is titled "zombi 2"! I'll watch it during the weekend!
by the way, to get zombie flesh eaters uncut in the UK, you can buy it seperately, buy the dead of night collection and that's the best version you can get uncut, but unfortunately some small bits are cut, but not much is cut!
The uncut version was only released in a box set with 4 other films. The disc by Dead of Night is the previously cut 'extreme version', which still misses out some of the gore, but not cut as badly as the old Vipco tape.
well in the dead of night, you still see the eye scene but it's just shortened, and the scene where the group of people go into the house and find the woman being eaten the bit where the zombie picks a bit of her guts and eats it, i noticed that bit was cut, but in the box set does it show the eye scene extended and the whole scene where the zombies eat the woman's body?
anyways i don't see the point of buying the whole box set, i just want to see zombie flesh eaters, anyways will they release zombie flesh eaters in the UK, on dvd by itself uncut, by the way even if they do release it uncut should i keep the dead of night version or sell that one?
Well there's no reason why Dead of Night couldn;t re-issue this one uncut if they wanted now that it has been passed. They obviously can't be bothered to repress it.
I'd get an uncut import off Ebay personally.
Incidentally, House by the Cemetery has just been passed uncut, so that's another one down!
but the thing is zombie flesh eaters aka zombi 2, in the U.S is only on region 1 and i only have region 2, so it wouldn't be able to work on my PC, which has a dvd-rom, anyways is house by the cemetery uncut in the UK in a box set or seperate?
P.S: will cannibal holocaust ever come out uncut in the UK?
by the way, omardogs also has zombie flesh eaters from dead of night, and he said it's the best uncut version in the UK, but i'll watch it this weekend to make my opinion about it, since i just bought it yesterday, however i was lucky to find it in HMV in bond street, it was very hard to find!
It is available on the 'Box of the Banned' collection, which also contains some other nasties released uncut in the UK. Incidentally, I recently saw the previously banned movie 'Late Night Trains' in my local HMV! They'll be stocking 'Anthropophagous the Beast' next!
If you don't already have the book SHOCK! HORROR! by Brewster, Fenton, and Morris, then you should get it. All the video covers from the video nasties and then some. Some of their listed run-times for films is wrong, though. Still a great buy.
I've been meaning to get that Anchor Bay Visiting Hours disc... I've still got a beat-up VHS. Strange it was labelled a video nasty as it's more of a psychological, clinical thriller/drama than a slasher, which is what it was marketed as. Quite good, I thought.
You have a great collection. I have started collecting the video nasties. I managed to get a bootleg dvd of Night Of The Demon off ebay. My favourite of the Nasties is The Burning. I've got it on US, UK dvd and vhs.
word is it's a cross beween Hostel and Switchblade romance.
Where do you get the time to watch so many films ? I used to be hardcore but as i got older and have young kids i just can't devote the time to films, what with work and stuff.
ps. Saw Prime evil kills last night , a croc movie. Not bad at all. Some good CGI and death's. Check it out, if you have not already.
Brilliant collection darkangel, my brother sold alot of his old VHS collection of nasties, they are such a great collectors item I wish he hadnt. Im surprised to see the werewolf and the yeti in your collection ive heard it is one of the hardest to get hold of, I heard its awful but what the hell. I saw on playdotcom that there is finally an uncut version of Last house on a 3 disc dvd avalible, they were only prolonging the inevitable eh?
A lot of films that are hard to find these days (on DVD anyway) were actually quite easy to find during the VHS days from some country or other, even if it was just on a bootleg tape or something.
Yes Last House is FINALLY uncut in the UK. Who knows, maybe it'll be an uncut New York Ripper and I Spit on your Grave double bill next?
DAWN OF THE DEAD was imported to Italy and retitled ZOMBI then Fulci did the unauthorized sequel calling it ZOMBI 2 then ZOMBI 2 was imported to the U.S. as ZOMBIE.
Ah, Visiting Hours... not only has the distinction of Will Shatner, but also causing a post-nasties furore when ITV showed the full uncut version in 1991 (the certified vid was cut, as the banned version had also been).
Uncut now of course, and shown occasionally on Zone Horror.
I would hardly call the heavily censored UK DVDs of "Cannibal Ferox" and "House by the Edge of the Park" collectors items. They are butchered monstrosities, devoid of extras and the print quality is atrocious.
I used to deal with a chap who specialised in imported videos. Trouble was the popularity in DVD killed off the video market, so until these titles come to disc they remain elusive.
Thank you for taking time to do this video. I have the attention span of a gerbil on crack up Richard Gere's ass but I made it all the way through. Watched many of these videos in the 80's and seen most of them on shelves in video stores throughout my life. Educational trip down memory lane. Thanks again.
I,too,am a video nasty caollector! Of the films you mentioned, I have original UK pre-cert/first release videos of VISTING HOURS,THE WITCH WHO CAME FROM THE SEA,UNHINGED,and XTRO
There's at least 2 differant films bearing that title, are your reffering to Dutch DVD of "The Catherine Miles Story" or UK disc of "The Green Inferno"?
i dont no but in 1988 a film called the green inferno was made it was an unofical sequal to cannibal holocaust some pepol say its the last of the italien cannibal genre but theres no cannibals in it go on imbd and type in cannibal holocaust 2. and type in natura contro on wikepedia
Have you ever bought anything from "WTF DVDs"? They sell VHS-DVD rips of all of the unavailable video nasties. Titles such as "Absurd" and "The Werewolf and the Yeti" are listed on their website. Just wondering because I am considering buying some rare horror DVDs, but am unsure whether they are going to steal my money! "Midnight Video" also sells such nasties.
If it was possible for you or if you had the recording and transfer of VHS/DVD to computer or within legal reasons, you would be a godsend to upload the VN's. I've seen about 45 of them so far
brought dead and buried and it is not a bad film im glad i brought it i got it with the bonus disc as you said not very gory but still very watchable.
i brought the nostril picker but it was total shit very low budget film i would not recommend any 1 buying it i dont know why it got banned in the first place.
Great collection of videos! How did you get this one to run over 10 mins? Do you watch any other types of cinema as passionatly as you do horror? Thanks
Its never been released on DVD in my region but there is a french disk, but I don't suppose you could post some clips from "Project: Metalbeast" could you? I would be etaernally greatful as I cannot find clips from it anywhere.
Its a pretty cool werewolf film with Barry Bostwick and it has Kane Hodder as the monster. Its been out of print in the US and Canada with no DVD in sight. I think the French DVD is the only release. Its good movie. You should check it out if the oppritunity presents itself.
No, it was probably out on video around that time, but was never included on he list. All the films I don't have that were on the list are mentioned at the end of this vid, so if its not mentioned anywhere in my videos then it wasn on the list.
Ok, look at this, we are collectors right. Take me for instance, I collect music and film. But I came to the conclusion that these are more ornamental items than entertainment, and that a pc game is more entertainment value than anything else in terms of accessibility, bearing in mind your weekly soap (tv) which isnt immediately accessible. You obviously have focus on movies but not everyone does. I just wanted to touch on that subject.
Must adnit, I spent quite a bit of money buying various banned films from seedy video fairs back in the 90's, both bootlegs and imports. Had quite an impressive collection too, but now everythings available on DVD and can be mail ordered over the net, its not that impressive anymore.
Collecting these days is a damnsite easier, but its nowehere near as fun as it was when these films were banned or just hard to get hold of.
Lol, very true. I just downloaded 4 music tracks from a u.s site, the same ones that someone was selling for £2500 on discogs (albeit on vinyl). Err, I think we are in a timewarp in europe!
Its all very technical. Interesting that you base your collection on this.
I worked in a video store many years ago and walking into the back of it was like a goldmine! My imagination ran wild. Being surrounded by hardcore porn and movies at 15 years old was alot to take in. I used to take them home in my schoolbag. I guess were two of a kind. Im kind of scuppered however bcos I like collecting rare music. Its a double weight on the purse strings, so have to be choosy.
Any video that had not been classified by the BBFC by the time the VRA came into effect in 1984 was effectively "banned" as the new law prohibited the sale of unclasified materials.
Many other films have been either rejected for classification or heavily censored by the board, or were otherwise unavailble for many years, that does not necessairly make them a "video nasty" in the true sense of the word.
i posted on the other parts about certain films you missed out only for you to mention them on this final part DOH!!that'll teach me to watch the full thing first!check out FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN it's fairly gory and bizzarly entertaining plus udo kier!say no more
ooo there was a dvd release of the werewolf and the yeti i saw it on ebay under a different name was in foreign language on the box grr wish i got it at the time havent seen it on there since all there is now is dvd r copys :(
night of the zombies was kindy goofy but good fun to watch for a good laugh, the 2 lead swat guys (Vincent and the leader) are hot so that's a nice extra for the female fans like myself. Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox and Jungle Holocaust are great too.
Terror Eyes/Night School was not the only film to feature a killer wearing a helmet and motorcycle leather, Andrea Bianchi's STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER has a murderer who wears a similar costume and the killer in NAIL GUN MASSACRE wears a motorcycle helmet while he kills
Thanks for these videos. I agree the original TOOLBOX MURDERS is very good, atmospheric music score and acting from Mitchell that just stays on the right side of camp. But I also like Tobe Hooper's 'remake'. VISITING HOURS was ok but a better hospital horror thriller is TERMINAL CHOICE but not a Video Nasty (but then VISITING HOURS should never have been a Nasty.) FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (uncut) is well worth checking out, also the companion BLOOD FOR DRACULA. Anyway thanks again.

"Midnight Video" also sells such nasties.
thrashmetalteen 2 years ago
If it was possible for you or if you had the recording and transfer of VHS/DVD to computer or within legal reasons, you would be a godsend to upload the VN's. I've seen about 45 of them so far

Cannibal Ferox is a nasty.
karlos81 3 years ago
Indeed it is!
DarkAngel182 3 years ago
brought dead and buried and it is not a bad film im glad i brought it i got it with the bonus disc as you said not very gory but still very watchable.
w879w87w 3 years ago
i brought the nostril picker but it was total shit very low budget film i would not recommend any 1 buying it i dont know why it got banned in the first place.
w879w87w 3 years ago
I don't believe it ever was banned, it was certainly never listed as a video nasty.
DarkAngel182 3 years ago
you're collection is awesome, youre reviews on horror films are very helpful, keep up the good work.
KlatooseVerattaNecto 3 years ago
how come zombie flesh eaters 2 - zombie 3 -
and zombie flesh eaters 3 - zombie 4 didn't go to this list?
realeimperobritannic 3 years ago
because they didnt come out until the late 80s. The nasties furore, and subsequent lists of banned works came out in the early 80's.
DarkAngel182 3 years ago
hmmmmm...makes sense :)
realeimperobritannic 3 years ago
HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is the best zombie movie ever!
NightOfTheZombiesVHS 3 years ago 2
Great collection of videos! How did you get this one to run over 10 mins? Do you watch any other types of cinema as passionatly as you do horror? Thanks
jackfordmac 3 years ago
If you go over by a few seconds YouTube will give you a bit of slack, just as long all your videos aren't like it.
DarkAngel182 3 years ago
That's pretty sweet man, not the tyrants of the internet you would think.

Its never been released on DVD in my region but there is a french disk, but I don't suppose you could post some clips from "Project: Metalbeast" could you? I would be etaernally greatful as I cannot find clips from it anywhere.
radioblueheart 3 years ago
Project Metalbeast? Thats a new one on me!
DarkAngel182 3 years ago
Its a pretty cool werewolf film with Barry Bostwick and it has Kane Hodder as the monster. Its been out of print in the US and Canada with no DVD in sight. I think the French DVD is the only release. Its good movie. You should check it out if the oppritunity presents itself.

Was Basket Case on the list? It's another one of those bizarre, yet hilarious something weird releases.
CavalryCemetery 4 years ago
No, it was probably out on video around that time, but was never included on he list. All the films I don't have that were on the list are mentioned at the end of this vid, so if its not mentioned anywhere in my videos then it wasn on the list.
DarkAngel182 4 years ago
Ok, look at this, we are collectors right. Take me for instance, I collect music and film. But I came to the conclusion that these are more ornamental items than entertainment, and that a pc game is more entertainment value than anything else in terms of accessibility, bearing in mind your weekly soap (tv) which isnt immediately accessible. You obviously have focus on movies but not everyone does. I just wanted to touch on that subject.
chookter1 4 years ago
...People used to come into the shop with brief cases of money buying these movies. Little did they know theyd all coome out on glossy dvd's!
chookter1 4 years ago
Must adnit, I spent quite a bit of money buying various banned films from seedy video fairs back in the 90's, both bootlegs and imports. Had quite an impressive collection too, but now everythings available on DVD and can be mail ordered over the net, its not that impressive anymore.
Collecting these days is a damnsite easier, but its nowehere near as fun as it was when these films were banned or just hard to get hold of.
DarkAngel182 4 years ago
Lol, very true. I just downloaded 4 music tracks from a u.s site, the same ones that someone was selling for £2500 on discogs (albeit on vinyl). Err, I think we are in a timewarp in europe!
chookter1 4 years ago
4 music tracks for 80 cents that is!
chookter1 4 years ago
Its all very technical. Interesting that you base your collection on this.
I worked in a video store many years ago and walking into the back of it was like a goldmine! My imagination ran wild. Being surrounded by hardcore porn and movies at 15 years old was alot to take in. I used to take them home in my schoolbag. I guess were two of a kind. Im kind of scuppered however bcos I like collecting rare music. Its a double weight on the purse strings, so have to be choosy.

..."Maniac" that is
chookter1 4 years ago
Wow, but it was banned for 25 yrs?
chookter1 4 years ago
Any video that had not been classified by the BBFC by the time the VRA came into effect in 1984 was effectively "banned" as the new law prohibited the sale of unclasified materials.
Many other films have been either rejected for classification or heavily censored by the board, or were otherwise unavailble for many years, that does not necessairly make them a "video nasty" in the true sense of the word.
DarkAngel182 4 years ago
Wot about "burning moon" and stuff like that?
Theres quite alot of "biggies" not mentioned.
chookter1 4 years ago
Burning Moon was never listed on the Department of Prosecutions hitlist.
DarkAngel182 4 years ago
"Maniac" is the best flick
chookter1 4 years ago
Again though, Maniac was never listed as a video nasty!

night of the zombies was kindy goofy but good fun to watch for a good laugh, the 2 lead swat guys (Vincent and the leader) are hot so that's a nice extra for the female fans like myself. Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox and Jungle Holocaust are great too.

great collection mate, keep up the gud work, what do you think your next collection will be about?

Terror Eyes/Night School was not the only film to feature a killer wearing a helmet and motorcycle leather, Andrea Bianchi's STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER has a murderer who wears a similar costume and the killer in NAIL GUN MASSACRE wears a motorcycle helmet while he kills
Mongreltail 4 years ago
Haven't seen those films, not sure if they were ever released over here.
DarkAngel182 4 years ago
Terror Eyes was released here in North America us NIGHT SCHOOL, the film is like an American giallo
Mongreltail 4 years ago
Thanks for these videos. I agree the original TOOLBOX MURDERS is very good, atmospheric music score and acting from Mitchell that just stays on the right side of camp. But I also like Tobe Hooper's 'remake'. VISITING HOURS was ok but a better hospital horror thriller is TERMINAL CHOICE but not a Video Nasty (but then VISITING HOURS should never have been a Nasty.) FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN (uncut) is well worth checking out, also the companion BLOOD FOR DRACULA. Anyway thanks again.
