@dudetran Thanks! I made the song up in front of the piano 1 day trying out a theme and luckily had the sense to record it in case I wanted to use for something later. (I have a hard time playing clean the whole way =) so was lucky to get it in one go ... you can still hear some places where I mess up a little.) At first I used the song as a placeholder to help me see how I might edit the video, and gradually realized that the song fit perfectly with the subject matter. Just worked out!
thanks so much for making and uploading this - oakland gets so much attention for being rough around the edges, rarely are its positive attributes (and there are many) shown. wonderful film. ^_^
I appreciate your response. I am looking to upgrade my camera. Does this only shoot on dv tapes or does it take a memory card. also were you shooting at 24 fps?
Unfortunately, the XHA1 only takes miniDV tapes and so I do have to wait for the video to play in real-time during the transfer/capture to my computer. It's in HDV (mpeg2) format so it's more forgiving to my older computer than other more compressed video that I've had trouble playing back smoothly like from the H.264 (mpeg4) from the DSLRs.
I shot the video at 24p. The slow motion was at 60i, using it on a 24p timeline in Premiere/AfterAffects and slowing it down there.
Thanks! I have the Canon XHA1 and use it with a Neutral Density Gradient lens filter to help darken a corner or a side of what I was shooting. The sunrise/sunset hour also helps give that great color. =)
thank you for making this video and allowing people to see this side of Oakland! I recognize about 95% of all these spots! big ups man!

@tmdao89 Very cool. Yeah, it's recognizable places that are sometimes right on front of us.
