  • AH!! I LOVE when they're all singing! They do an AMAZING job!!!

  • trying to play everyone at the same time...that shit be hard!!]

  • ERik is sexy no matter what. Just sayin

  • My favourite part was the confusion of the Notes. I love how everyone including the directors could sing. I was giggling the whole time, it was amazing. I watched it ten times today =D

  • "I tried so hard to free you" Raoul, you did nothing but get your dumb ass captured.

  • @dramione4everxoxo But, He Had Christine do the Opera So he Could CAPTURE Phantom, He did what he could

  • lets see ...

    A) Psycopathic, scared, emotional, hansome, mysterious, murdering, awesome man who lives in a huge cellar and tends to kill people for love

    OR

    B) Bitchy, whiny, slave of fashion ass who will do anything for money

    .......

    OBVIOUS CHOICE!!!!

    A!!!!!

  • @aidarulesthud A!!!!!!!

  • I think they should made the deformed part of his face worse, I mean super ugly and scary. no way would someone have a life like his with a face like that, its not that bad at all. It would of been epic to have 2 faces like yin and yang, basicly pure ugly and scary and well I dont want people to start calling me gay (not that I have anything against gays) and the other side handsome and a magnet.

they sohuld of made it worse thumbs up

  • They cant even make him look ugly.

  • how dare that spoiled pretty boy ask the phantom to show pitty? what ignorance and lack of understanding!

  • ...Raoul falls down a trap and the music resembles beneath a moonless sky. snicker.

  • it's so beautiful when all three of them are singing at the same time, then just fades to Emmy's beautiful soft voice. *____* <3

  • The book is so much darker than the movie.

  • "you try my patience. make your choice" isn't that the only time he talks w/o singing? lol

  • I was so mad that Raul survived -.- it's just like "DIE ALREADY!"

  • BEST PART OF THE MOVIE!!

  • This makes me cry all the time!!!

  • THIS IS THE CHOICE

THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETUUUUUUURN

    THIS! IS! SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • Don't you usually have to turn things counter-clockwise in order to open them?

(lefty loosy - righty tighty? :D)

    btw - freaking good music..!

  • I hate when his masterpiece (Don Juan) is destroyed :(

  • @funnyguy134 He can always write it again, he's a genius!!! I feel so sad for him when Christine leaves him for the pretty-boy Raoul!!!

  • Comment removed

  • What is the ghost was a woman and his student (Christine) was a man??? thumbs up if this is a cool idea for a book!!!

  • 2:12 crazy sinking bubbles!

  • Gerard Butler did a FANTASTIC job as the Phantom...the one part that get's me every time: "this face which earned a mother's fear and loathing, a mask my first unfeeling scrap of clothing"_i hope i don't cry when we perform this

  • why did his hair turn blonde-ish when she took his mask off????????????????

  • @Akins560 he was also wearing a wig due to him being partically bald on once side of his face

  • @Akins560 because he wore a wig;you can see the deformity sorta takes up the left side of his face too and the mask he wore in point of no return only covered his eyes and noes area. So he wore some of that facial thing that covers it and wore a wig too.

  • @Cuttie1207 also, do you think it would be cool to read a book like this where the phantom was a woman and her student was a man (Erikka and Christian)??? Give me ur opinion, do u think this would be a good story to write and read?!

  • @Akins560 it depends on the development of Erikka and Christian, it wouldnt be interesting if they just changed genders but given the same personality.

  • @Cuttie1207 what if their genders were switched and it was set in the present time in a college or university instead of the 1700's or something???

  • @Akins560 ive already a story similar to that and the reason her's turned out fine was because she didnt switch genders but kept the mysterious phantom as himself. Im sure you could try but it also depends how you develop your story. You want a reader to enticed not practically knowing what is going to happen after reading a few pages.

  • @Akins560 Crazy fan-fiction writers...

  • LOVEE phantom (of the opera ;p) likelike ^^

  • I really her with The Phantom

  • This has got to be my favorite part of the movie. The raw emotion and passion is so invigorating!!

  • This was Gerard Butlers first singing experience. He had to take a lot of vocal lessons for this, yes he is the weakest of the main three vocally. But he makes up for it preformance wise. I just saw the play again on Broadway 2 days ago and the kid playing phantom had GREAT voice but he didn't convey the emotion as well as Gerard did. But if we gonna talk best Phantom ....the original MICHEAL CRAWFORD is hands down the best. Amazing voice and was able to convey all the emotion.

  • i always feel like im the only one who thinks the phantom's face was beautiful. his soul was beautiful to. if he was evil, he wouldnt hav had love in his heart.

  • this makes my stomach drop every time i see it

  • i saw the original and read the book loved them both and this movie does it justice

and even though the phantom is an ugly creepy stolker the only thing u can

do is feel bad for him because of how terribly in love he was with christine

  • I was twelve years old when this movie came out, and I used to think this was brilliant. Now it's 2012, I'm 17, I've seen the show twice and own the 25th anniversary DVD and CD plus the original cast recording of POTO - Although I respect the effort they tried to put into this film, I would take Ramin Karimloo over Gerard Butler any day!

  • And i still wonder how Raoul could sing like that with the rope around his neck.

  • they should have got people who have done the show on stage, I mean, I think Gerard Butler's great but he doesn't compare to Ramin Karimloo who shows much more emotion

  • @DoctorWhovian12 Well Gerard Butler was the worst of the 3 main characters when it comes to vocals

  • I understand why she didn't choose him, but I still feel bad for him

  • I wouldn't reject him T_T

  • You guys need to understand that it's the creepiness we love. And in the book, he may have been "plain scary" but in the book and movie Raoul is such a dandy there's no hope for him. That stalkerifficness is the essence of all-consuming love that woman, well, love. The idea that a man can't live without you, you're his reason for living. Just read a few romance novels and you'll see what I mean. Of course, in real life those men would be peppersprayed in the face. But this is a fantasy for us.

  • when he says "THIS IS the point of no return" I always imagin him saying "THIS IS SPARTAAAA!!!!" Seem's fitting since he said that in 300.

  • @XxCCtinaxX whaha you're right X'D

  • @XxCCtinaxX ah yes but it would be more fitting here for him to say, "THIS IS OPERAAAAA!!!!!!!!" lol

  • Best scene in the movie.

  • LIK DIS IF U CRY EVERTIM.

  • i think its really funny how she did choose him.

    Thats why she kissed him.

But then HE seen that she would have been really unhappy,

    so he let her go.

    So, in reality,

    she chose him,

only to be set free by him.

    haha. I WIN.

  • @asmarahcheetah

Rather, he showed true love for her. The reason he cried after she kissed him was because he was torn apart from the choice he was about to make. He chose to let her go, feeling she would be happier with Raoul and without him. When you truly love someone, you care more about their happiness and welfare than your own. While his actions are not excusable, she was the only one who seemed to show him any compassion from the anguish he felt in the end.

  • 61 people were sad that Raul didn't drown

  • The phantom's an asshole. Why are phangirls so in love with him in this movie? He's a brute.

  • @TheGreatPumpkin79 I beg to differ, the phantom merely loved her and he mentored and taught her all she knew about music and her talent, then she rejects him for a nobody. He was merely in grief by heartbreak, in the end though he lets her go and then vanishes

  • @patcynik "I gave you my mind blindly."

  • Does anyone know what Christine says at 8:07????

  • I really love this movie and even more, this scene.

It is so passionate and amazing. When they all sing together it's just so incredible!!!!

But I can't help thinking that Raoul needs a haircut every time I watch this :)

  • Ugh I hate how everyone goes, "He was so evil in the book, why is everyone so sympathetic to him?" Maybe because, like me, you take the book and the musical to be two completely separate stories that just happen to share certain similarities....

  • If I were Christine Daae...

    Erik would be happy. *nods*

  • lol i love it how she just stands there the whole time! XD

  • What did she say "toosless"

  • you guys need understand christain didnt pick the phantom becuse he was a stalker, maybe 20 years older than her, killed ppl, lied to her, forced her to marry her, tried to kill the last person she loved, and he was just really scary. and in the book he was really ugaly and the movie made you really like him but in the book he was just plain scary!

  • @misscool123456 I've read the book. And guess what? I still love Erik! In the book, Raoul is ridiculously whiny without any reason to be. Erik is sad because A.) He lives in a damp cellar, B.) He looks like a living corpse, and C.) the woman he loves takes advantage of his help and deceives him. Yes, he could use some psychological help, but the hero and heroine (if they can be called such) are both asses.

  • @misscool123456 I actually think the movie made the audience like him and hate Raoul as well.

  • @misscool123456 I think it's scary you can't spell "ugly". Bad spelling! Now that's really "ugaly".

  • @TallyHoWhispers

really, im sorry i dont have the best spelling ever it was a mistake i didnt look over it calm down

  • @misscool123456 You are totally right. All the time people say the phantom loved her so much. He did not love her he was obsessed with her. People really forget that he was a bad person. The story wasn't created for you to love the phantom it was created so you would see how obsession is wrong

  • @misscool123456 while that is true, this movie is an adaptation. it's not going to be 100% accurate with the original source material. this portrayal of the story was simply weber and schumacher's take on the tale. they tried to make the phantom more of a tragic, almost antihero, figure instead of the insane obsessed antagonist. for this version of the story his feelings for christine were genuine, but given his past he was unable to convey those emotions in a "normal" manner

  • @misscool123456 I know he was sooooooooooo much better in the book! I wish they could've followed the book a bit better.

  • My favorite GERRY movie<3

  • when he said "the world had no compassion for me!"

    i always cry

  • I love this song it is great!!!

  • for me, the most moving part is at 7:09 till the end...

i always cry while watching this!

"either way you choose, you cannot win"

    so sad=/

  • i just realzized

im pretty sure "why make her lie to you to save me" are raouls only words to the phantom in the musical

unless u=you count him shouting "angel!" near the beginning

  • Hah, you know the original Phantom mask? it was a full face mask, not half. They changed it for this one 1) because it would show more emotion 2) people thought Gerard Butler was too good-looking, to hide with a full mask!

  • @katie123poynter well in the book and original movie and stuff it was a full mask, but for the musical its always been the half mask. of course for the movie they downsized it and made the disfigurement a way bigger thing than it really would have been if he just looked like that

  • 0:00 0:00 0:00 6:25 all my fav parts not to mention 0:00 through 8:19

  • i love the part when he sings'' turn around and face your fate. sounds awsome!!!

  • plus he was a father. meg was the daughter. she had his blond hair. madam.... whatever her name was, was the wife she helped him when he was a child.

  • @abesapien123v Seriously? I've only ever seen this movie you see, he doesn't seem the fartherly type to me either

  • @abesapien123v It is explained in the book that Madame Giry was married previously, but is now a widow. Meg, we are to assume, is the child of that union.

  • the phantom will always have a innocent heart most people cant see that. sometimes the most evil are actully the vitims. when he cries they are not tears of hate or terror the are tears of dispair. in the beginneing he sings '' down once more into my black dispair. please show some compassion for the phantom.! please.

  • I haven't seen it. I watched a few clips, but ... the sheer amount of stupidity and the massive character changes, badly written score ... Opera bar fight? Sounds like a bad comedy.

  • @SirLeeOldman I concur, i heard phantom actually sings to "rock" music, i was also told meg shoots christine...he was high when he wrote this if its true.

  • @WarriorJustPwnedYou It's based loosly on Phantom of Manhatten. A book. That should never have existed ... he probably was high when he figured it was a good idea.

  • @SirLeeOldman Definitely. Good having a conversation with people knowledgable about Phantom. Xd

  • @WarriorJustPwnedYou It is nice, actually. :-D

  • this takes High School Musical and makes it it's B***H! I LUV PHANTOM!!!!!!

  • puddingisawesome3000 is wrong after she kissed him he realized he didnt love her thumbs up if u agree

  • @brokerbmartin No its that he felt bad.

  • Phantom if you weren't such a creeper even that sunburn would not deter me lol

  • @garland531 IKR? THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN!!!

  • for some weird reason 7:10 through 7:31 makes me CRACK UP (maybe the guys faces)

  • I love this part. Amazing movie. Also, did anyone else notice that his hair was smooth and black when he had his mask off, and when she took it off it was long, blonde, and stringy?

  • Christine: They turn to fears of HATE!!!!!! Me: WOOHOO!!!

  • i can't live without this great movie!!!

  • Love the phantom!

  • its christines fault if she wouldn't rejected phantom &tooked away his mask he wouldnt been evil . Raoul is

a real jerk because he noticed christine since she became famous,he putted her in danger because gendarmes would shot her by trying to kill the phantom.

  • @zibors13 You know he killed people before he met Christine, right? He's been a psychopath all along, it's not her fault.

  • @zibors13 Two things: 1 not putted, put. 2. Raoul loved her before she was famous they were child hood sweethearts.

  • @zibors13 You are so wrong.

  • I love how the phantom is killing Raoul and they're all still singing, even Raoul!

  • Should have just Killed the Bastard.

  • This is so Sad. Some people say its the Phantom's Fault because he turned all Evil and what Not, But she rejected Him and I bet about 95% (if not more)of us would do the same exact thing. He Loved her. So Much that He Hit Rock Bottom after She rejected Him. Hey Go Big or Go Home, in Erik's Case, he did Both :)

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 well, she didn't really reject him. he just couldn't take it anymore. she even putted on the ring to prove!

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 he was kind of evil b4 too when he joseph buquet, and so that was Christine's reasoning, dont forget how scared she is of him, and better raoul than a seriel killer

  • @PuddingIsAwesome3000 the phantom isn't evil, he is mentally scarred, he was shown much hate throughout his life and for what, a scar on his face, also, Raoul pulled a stupid douchbag move when he asked the phantom for compassion and pity, 2 things he hasn't seen in his life, its like asking the poor to lend you money, its a matter of dont shit on someone then ask for kindness and understanding and by shit on them what i mean is not to forget that raoul tried to kill him

  • @bonkuraysan Yes! I agree very Much so, Never thought of it Like that. Well Done.

  • I'd still do him.

  • i am in love with this movie and play it a beauiful story

  • I don't see what everyone is afraid of. His face isn't disfigured. It more looks like an allergy reaction

  • @vampireneyney6464 Yea I know! It's Like The People in the Movie Have Never seen something Like that Before...? Lol. Like when Christine Rips His Mask off During "Past the Point of No Return," Everyone Flips Like It's the Grossest thing they've ever seen.... It's Not that Bad...

  • ...WOW RAOUL first you don't bring a weapon, THEN you don't listen and keep your hand at the level of your eye. Poor planing Raoul...very poor.

  • they never even explained what "hand at the level of your eye" meant!!

i only found out after i read the book, they even mention it in the silent version

  • @kaycie92 I don't know, I thought it was pretty obvious what it meant, considering the pattern of hanging related deaths.

  • @Aroreiel but then in this part the phantom says "raise up your hand to the level of your eye" just to tie it down next to his head...

i thought it was some sort of 'this is the pose you need to be in so i can kill you' lol

  • @kaycie92 not really it means if the phantom wants to stranggle him with a rope he cant if his hand is in the rope making a space for him to breath

  • I loved the play, gotta say they kinda ruined the chandelier part in the movie

  • @kittygus How?

  • Why didn't Raoul try to defend himself? -_-* loser.....

  • so happy this vid finally is out of the 900,000 view zone and into the millions

  • Raoul got owned.

  • Erik kind of sounds like Bowser

  • Keep your hand at the level of your eyes. Best. Line. Ever!

  • is christine just going to stand there and sing. ever thought of helping him

  • such a beautiful and sad scene...but somehow i keep cracking up when i hear "THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETUUUUUUUURN!!!"

  • 8:11

    "You've tried my patience."

I think someone slips back into his accent. ;)

  • The part that starts at 6:55 is my favorite

  • it agravates me the way Roul falls for the Phantom's traps so easy. The trap door is so predictable. And if a crazy loone in a sewer reaches down in murky water, what do you think he's gonna do?

  • amazing how he can still sing amazing like that while getting choked

  • @jskillz909 What's really amazing is how the girls can still sing with those corsets!

  • Man Raoul has the worst timing. Christine rejects the Phantom and he immediately shows up to greet a heartbroken pissed off murderer of darkness. Then is not even smart enough to listen to advice and keep his hand at the level of his eyes. How does such a dumb dumb end up with a great girl.

  • Comment removed

  • lol at 1:31 i was like YESH!!!!!!!!!

  • is it just me or does the lead girl christine look like madison pettis???? :))))

  • I dont think that I can watch this video without crying/wanting to, I have just finished watching this movie today in music. Awww man... Poor phantom. they called this poor guy the devil's child when he was younger. GO MADAM GIRY! hahahah, I feel so bad for the phantom, like the WHOLE movie almost. It makes me emmotional when he cries. How much the phantom loves her and they cant get past his face, which accually ISNT that bad as I thougt it would be. I feel so bad... "Tears of hate..." Aw!!! :(

  • OHHHHH MY GOD! HIS VOICE...MMMMMMMMM

  • Burnt face or not, I'd still tap that.

  • I SO WISH RAOUL WOULD JUST DROWN!

  • when all 3 sing it is so powerful!

  • 5:46 : "Why would i make her peee" :P

Scottish accent popping up there Gerard.

  • What i find sad is that by the end he is so very childlike : he stubornly takes here down not even thinking about the pursuers wich would inevitably come, he procedes in doing a mock wedding, even dressing her up like a doll, just like a kid who takes someting his dad forbid him to. And ofc the scene with the monkey (the only scene in a movie wich actually made me cry might i add)

  • Nice planning Raoul..You could have used anything AND YOU END UP BRINGING NOTHING.

  • Nice planning Raoul. You could have used any thing to fight back but ended up bringing nothing...

  • as a chid in the move the phantom was misterated and killed to escape. he put a rope to rauol because hes been doing this to many people, but havent you seen with your eyes! the phantom would have just hung him immedely and insted he gave christene a choice. people and did you listen: the part where rauol said '' show some compassion. the phantom:'' the showed no compassion for me!'' the phantom was not insane he had a sad heart.

  • @abesapien123v * movie*

  • @abesapien123v If your summary is based off of just the movie, then yes. But you have to remember that in the book, the countless musicals, and other performances, The Phantom is quite unhinged. Just something to know, not disagreeing.

  • @abesapien123v I'm pretty sure having a 'sad heart' does not give you a pass on attempted murder. Sanity and love does not equal tying you love interests boyfriend to a gate and threatening to hang him if she doesn't go out with you. While the character is tragic, and you can see why he's a monster, it doesn't change the fact he's just that. A monster. That's what makes the character interesting.

  • @SirLeeOldman

All is fair in love and war :P

  • okey he is not a monster in the movie my teacher told that his parents threw acid at his face. that dosent make him a monster. that makes him someone who needed better parents. i mean who throws acid at there child!!

  • @abesapien123v i think it was more like someone stole his music he wrote, and then he killed that guy, and that guys wife threw the acid in his face. haha! there are lots of stories though

  • @abesapien123v Truely cruel people. Definatly. I know why he does the things he does, but just because you can pity a character and understand their actions, doesn't mean they're justified or right in those actions. Erik is a genius, but a murderer, kidnapper amongst other things. A tragic past does little to justify his later actions, except in helping us understand them better.

  • okey the thing is the phantom has a heart and you cant deny that monster or human everyone need a love to....... well love! i like this kid at school and the only reason why i like school is because he is there. so the phantom is a kind gentle person if you see what kind herat he has!

  • @abesapien123v Yes. Everything deserves love. And had Erik not lived the life he did, he would be gentle. The problem is, he did live that life, and however unfair that was, his insanity and anger have become his most obvious traits. Having a past like he does does not justify murdering the stage hand, kidnapping Christine and demanding she love him, or threatening Raoul's life. Whatever he could have been, he is a monster.

  • @SirLeeOldman why do you call him a monster. no matter how diffrent they look or act i can see the human in anyone. so why cant you see the human in the phantom when you call him monster! please watch this vid and you might and just maybe you will be able to see the love and compassion he deserves!!!

  • @abesapien123v It has nothing to do with how he looks. Look, Erik is pitiable. I never denied that. He can be gentle. The problem I have is that he swings from 'help me', to 'you have no choice' to 'I'll murder the guy you actually love if you don't give into me'. He has no aversion to murder, kidnapping, and full emotional manipulation to get what he wants, and all while denying Christine what she wants. He's vicious, angry with no comprehension of human emotion.

  • @SirLeeOldman The first murder I'll forgive him for. He was a child and abused, and the guy almost deserved it. The stage hand? He was a dick, but he commited no crime worthy of death, he just stummbled across the wrong door. Piangi? He's a lousy singer and he had the wrong part in the play. Raoul? The guy fell in love. That's his only crime. That's not counting Erik's extortion of the opera directors for money he never gives a reason for deserving.

  • He abuses those around him, and maybe he has his reasons for doing it. He attacks relative innocents who commited no crime against him. Being angry at the world does not justify that. Erik is lonely, he's angry, and he's insane, and tragic or not, he is and always will be a monster. I love the character. I pity him. But I don't want him to win because he doesn't deserve to.

  • @SirLeeOldman look in the movie kids even adults laughed at him and called him the devils child i couldnt see that in anyone. hes not insne. he has a right to be angry at the world. no one will ever be a monster unless they commit a crime that truly does wrong. yes i know hanging people is a big crime. but he deserves to win so you can kiss my rear end!

  • @abesapien123v Hanging innocent people is a big crime but not truely wrong .... I ... I have no idea what to say to that.

So, in summation, you would rather have Christine live under ground, with an 'angry' man at least twice her age who pretended to be her father/an angel for the longest time and who has a habit of killing people who piss him off, is that it? Rather than the sweet, well intentioned if slightly boring guy who loves her? I really have no idea what to say ...

  • @SirLeeOldman i'd rather live under ground, with an 'angry' man at least twice her age who pretended to be her father/an angel for the longest time and who has a habit of killing people who tick him off, lol. I hate Roul

  • @res82598, @abesapien123v Y'know what? I give up. I do. If Erik was played by Lon Chaney, if he was like he were in the book, where he looked like a skeleton and smelled like a corpse. If he looked like anyone other Gerard Butler with a sunburn. If he truely looked like the tragic monster he was. If he wasn't handsome, if his face matched his deeds, would either of you support him? I'd still pity him, love the character, but would either of you want him to win?

  • Contd: What does Erik do that's so wonderful? I admit he's pitiable. I admit he went through hell. That does not work as an excuse. It gives him reasons, and at times those are shaky at best. A bad past doesn't justify murder. That defense didn't work for Voldermort, didn't work for Steerpike, doesn't work in real life, it sure as hell won't work for darling Erik.

By contrast, what does Raoul do that's so wrong? Fall in love? We'd all deserve to die were that a crime.(contd)

  • Contd: Be a wee bit plain? Well hell, if that were a crime, say goodbye to half the planet. Actually be a good loving boyfriend, who respects Erik as a rival and a man, listens to Christine, wants to protect her, is willing to die to ensure her safety. Yeah, can see what that'd be a bad thing. Because he loses a fight? When exhausted, probably freezing and sick with worry? He still stands up to Erik, seems to respect that Erik loves Christine as much as he does. Real bad guy that.

  • Contd: I apologise for seeming harsh. But that's honestly the only reason I can see. Erik is handsome here. I want somebody, anybody to have a reasonable arguement as to why Erik is better than Raoul. I'm fed up of 'oh Erik went through hell', and 'Raoul is a fop'. That's not an excuse, and Raoul really isn't. I mean no real offense to anybody, and could someone please please explain this to me.

  • @SirLeeOldman Ill give you a reason, phantom has been teaching he
