I'm a Maron fan, listen to back eps of WTF everyday at work, but his logic is flawed here. Waste of money? It made a huge profit. And its budget was mostly spent on personnel, job creation. People of modest means who operate behind the scenes, not big money A-list stars. If millions of people want to blow $12 on a couple hours of visual spectacle, who is he to judge?

Avatar was ok. It wasn't bad or great, just ok. However, Marc was spot on, overall. Brilliant statement. Overall, when one hour passed after I left the theater, I thought Avatar was just another movie with too much hype. I felt the same way about The Dark Knight (I know I'll get crucified for that one, but it's true). I think films like Red Beard and Old Boy stayed in my mind much longer, because strong stories make great movies, and CGI is secondary.
